  1. Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you could reccomend a good charter for pike in the St Lawrence. My father-in-law wants to do a day trip and would like someone that is good to put him on some pike. He is looking more for numbers rather than size.

If you know some better charters for pike in different areas that allows a day trip from north of the Rome/Utica area please feel free to post those as well

    Thanks!

  2. Nice Job Andy, Guy and the rest of the Candy team. I had a feeling after talking with Andy at about 10:30am on Saturday when he was already boxed out, having a cocktail and smoking a stogie that it was looking pretty good!

Where did Candy place for the Cup?

  3. Hi Dave,

Thanks! What size Gammy's do you use? Also do you use the extra strong version?

I thought I remember that Skeinmachine also had posted that he changes up all his stock hooks for VMC's but I can not find the post to check what type and size hook this was.

I am looking for a stronger hook that won't change the action of the lure.

    Take care,

  4. We have the DS600X and you can mannual zoom to see the upper 150ft. This is a great unit! I as well run it dual frequency when fishing and auto in search mode. You can not go wrong with this. ssfran has the DS400X an is very happy with it for finger lakes useage.

  5. AWESOME! Like I said in my email that deer would gross as a booner if it had G4's. I looked back at my last post and I should have wrote net :( . Didn't mean to cheat ya! :) Also sorry I haven't called I have been traveling a ton. I will give you a call next week. You should get together with Steve and I for our annual muzzleloader hunt. It's always fun!

BTW check where that deer ranks for a gross score 8 in NYS. I bet you might be in the top ten or very close. Talk to you soon.

  6. Hi Chuck,

Sorry it took me so long to reply I was in Pa deer hunting. I would love to connect and learn a thing or two from you and Steve about fishing Canadice and Hemlock. I am getting a small 14 footer next year and should be out there with you guys a time or two. I'll trade you for some trips on the big lake with Steve and I. :D Let us know when you get the buck back I would love to see the mount. Man I hope he goes 165! Like I said that is one hell of a deer. You sure you didn't shoot that in Iowa??? Just kidding! Take care and talk to you soon.

  7. Gaint buck Chuck! I'm guessing 145 gross based on the brows and mass. They sure were hot on monday weren't they. I saw 6 different bucks. Finally had a shot at a shooter at 11:00am when I was dressing my doe. LOL

Craig Thurston in Wayland did a great job on my bow kill last year! Congrats that's a once in a lifetime deer!

  8. Super nice buck looks to be 4 1/2 years old. SWEET double throat patch.

Where abouts in Syracuse are you from? I grew up in Marcellus and killed at 140 class deer there when I was in my early twenties. I miss the rolling hills out there and loved the bow season. Still get out there from time to time to hunt with my father "behind the house".

It's hard to leave the area where I am now though. Well done and smart move waiting the deer out overnight. Where did you end up hitting him?

  9. Got a little late start on the lake Sunday. Saw some marks in the harbor and tried for those fish with some others in the harbor. Did not get a knock off. Ventured out to 170 ft without with one good rip in close but we dropped that fish. We had to be back early so we finished our day back in the harbor. Ended up with one king (18lbs) 42 ft on the dipsy 3.5 setting on a MD spinny with a TG fly. Fish seemed to want it slow. VERY TOUGH day. Sounds like we should have gone deep (400ft) as others out there were having fun with Coho's and 2 year old salmon. This might be our last time out for the year. ;( If so see you in the spring.

  10. It was last Hurray for the LOC. Tough fishing off Oswego with Homogenized water from the NE blow. The temp was scattered from 50 ft to the bottom at times. Nonetheless we mangaged to go 3 for 5 for the morning bite. Two majors and a jake. 21 and 22#s for the majors. Two of the fish came off the riggers. White SD with Hammer fly. The other fish was a nasty male that we took on 400 ft of copper on a chartruse SD and TG fly off the big board. Great day to be on the water. There were TONS of boats out from Wrights landing. In fact the parking lot was so full that some were parking a 1/4 mile away. There was a LONG line of boats pulling in early morning. There seemed to be some sort of Bass tourney as there were a bunch of bass boats there as well. Chaos! Should be out a couple more times this year. See you on the water!

  11. Had a great day out of oswego. We went 12 for 12 with all kings and one steelhead. Best day we have had for a while. We were 500 to 600 ft out in front of the stacks. 2.2 to 2.5 Down speed worked well with white SD with the hammer on the Riggers. 125 to 95 FOC out. We also did fish on chrome pro-chip mirage fly on the dipsies. 325 to 375 out. On 600ft of copper chartreuse SD with TG fly worked well with the sun high. Also did two nice kings on a mag NK spook with a green ladder over the glow. North/South troll seemed to be the ticket. Nice day on the water busy until 1:30 when we pulled. Also nice to see the lake lay down for once.

Did anyone see those fish in the upper water column at 25 to 45 feet? Nice marks, I ran a core out with a spoon but could not get any to go. Anyone get those fish to go? I was curious what they were. See you out there next weekend!

    Dan

  12. Bob

Good to talk to you out there! Sounds like you had a good day. We had our best in a while as well. SD's and Hammers were definately the ticket. Glad to hear your party had a good time. We had my brother in law on the boat as well. He has not been exposed to salmon fishing like this before. Just about wore him out. Hope to chat again before the season ends.

  13. 0.37" or 45lb copper sinks 20 feet every 100ft of line out at 2.0 to 2.5 down speed. I have a 600ft and a 300ft setup both on Penn reels. It's a killer when you get a fish and a PITA to run at times. Charters joke and call it a client killer. But hey bottom line it catches fish.

Dre, I fish the big lake often with Steve (ssfran) you should come out with us sometime and I would be happy to show you how we run it. Talk to you later.

  14. Dansr, SSafran and I will be a Wrights on Friday and Saturday. We also will have the grill going on Saturday. We monitor 68 sounds like some guys on the the GLA board will be joining the fun as well. We go by Dasboot and have a 22ft thompson with a light tan soft top. Our truck will be a silver Dodge 1500 extended cab (blue single axle trailer) with an Atomik sticker (amongst others) on the slider window. Let's get together and have a cold one! See you on the water!
