  1. Jim I guess that's what drives me to catch my first king , its hard to imagine that kind of power !! that they could spool me with 500 ft. of line !!! What size fish would it take to really take alot of line like that ?? 30 pound and up ?? I still can't believe it !! That must be a thrill !!! One of these days !! I was thrilled with the 11 pound coho but a little disappointed with the fight , I was hoping I had a king on .

  2. Ray and MISS UM You hit the nail right on the head , I'm new to the wire rigs and I picked up the eagle claws roller rods and have been trying to figure out why the wire keeps getting caught on the side of the roller on the tip , thought I put on to small of wire dia. , should I replace with twilly tips or replace the roller with better rollers??? Thanks for the help , I was afraid if I didn't hold the rod just right so the wire didn't get off the roller I would loose a nice fish.

  3. First I would like to thank everyone that answered my newbie questions last week and got me started off in the right direction , Tried to get out early but didn't get on the water untill almost 8:00 , set-up two riggers with J-plugs and one dipsey , dodger , fly on wire . Trolled for only about 45 mins and the one rigger with a green J-plug fired and I pulled in my first coho about 11.2 pounds , had the ball down 60 ' over 100' . The only other action was a 30 '' 8.2 pound walleye on the fly rig . My biggest problem was not marking any fish , looked for them in 30' out to 125' , probably should have gone deeper , looked like the charter guys did pretty good , either they got them early or maybe out further not sure . Did anyone else go out of Sodus this past weekend ??? What else did I do wrong ?? Trolled from 2.5 to 3.2 with a fish-hawk , tried 150' to 225' on the wire and had the J plugs all over the place !!

  4. Lavarock , I jig the fingers a lot also and have been following your thread , was wondering how you made out , at least you had some chasers they were looking !! to bad you couldn't get one to hit !! I was wondering how interested they would be . Were getting a few browns right now so you would think you might get them to bite also . What depth did you try ?? I will be up this weekend weather permitting , if the regular stuff doesn't work I will give the jigs a try !!

  5. Skipper 19 , I didn't like the knot connection with flea flicker either as it was pretty big when done , it looked good and I felt it was strong , I normally use a uni-knot for all my mono connections . Thats why I decided to just go with a 25 lb main line and a 17 lb leader , knot is still pretty big but passes through the reel ok , not sure how I will make out when the flea gets real bad , but the 25 lb should work up to a point .

  6. Thats what I was thinking ,if there real shallow 10- 15 ft or less I don't think I will mark them , not only are they spooked but the cone angle from the transducer is so small its hard to pick them up .I have the lowrance x 135 , good unit , I start marking fish good in the 20 ft level and don't pay much attention to the stuff above that as my sensitivity is turned up to about 85 % to pick up the fish and my lures down deep , so there is some interference up in the 10 ft range on the screen . . I'll turn the sensitivity down a little when I get up there and see what pops out on the screen .Just trying to find a starting point , thanks for the help .

  7. Hi guys , I am a finger lakes fisherman most of the time , but I can't stop the urge to come up to the big lake in the fall !! I want to try to get into some salmon off Sodus point this September with my downriggers , I thought I would run some J-plugs and was wondering if I should run a wire line ,dipsey- dodger fly set-up , will they hit the fly this time of year ?? I can't decide what line to run as far as pound test for the kings and if I should use a leader , I would rather just skip the leader and the extra knot ,but I no it sometimes is necessary to go with a heavy mainline for the flea and then a leader . Whats the best way to go . Thanks Bruce

  8. Great job guys , Thanks for the effort , good to see everyone and get together for the weigh-in , sinkers in the fish , dynamite in most boats ( not mine ) probably why I didn't weigh in any fish !! What a group of guys , probably had something to do with the fact we weren't allowed in the park at Long Point only the parking lot!!! :D:D

  9. Not sure what you guys have planned as far as refresments , if you have it under control thats fine , I was just thinking if its a hot one out there Sat. afternoon I could bring a big cooler full of COLD BEER ! OOPS I mean water were at a family oriented park , I no you all got excited and were going to skip the fishing and just run me down on the water for my cooler of beer !!! I no how you guys work!! But I have a big cooler that would work for the WATER, let me no.
