He's come and gone, July 31 thru Aug 4. We got out that Sunday for a few hours, his 5 year old caught a few small kings... it was pure chaos around the house with his two kids and our newborn, but very fun!

Awesome! I never made it out fishing this weekend... we just swam and relaxed, had a few hours each day with the inlaws watching the baby...

The offshore program was always interesting how one guy could whale the steelies and another the kings. It is completely speed related and not always fast versus slow for each species.

The most obvious story I have for this one was back around 1990, I needed a day off, so my brother worked the charter in my place out at the Oak... it was a very foggy late August day after a northeast blow, they got into a very hot steelhead bite and were close to there 20 fish limit by 10am... I got out late and battled the fog with a few friends, set lines and immediately hooked up with a 33lb king, reset lines and hooked up with another big guy that weighed in at 33lbs as well. Both were just shy of top 20 material back then, but this day has always been a lesson as to how different it can be out there for two boats in the same area. I used to work for Butch on Shongo who was a textbook 2.2mph troller, but always had a good steelhead program and felt that once the steelhead started to go, then the Kings would follow as you began working waypoints and baitpods offshore.

Guys... all great discussion and great points... we all know the safety factor of wearing a seat belt and a PFD, but it is NOT the role of the government to TELL me that I have to at all times and all places wear these things. I wear my seat belt 100% of the time, but not because big brother requires it, I will don a PFD if necessary due to water conditions or being in questionable situations, but I will NOT accept the government telling me that I MUST do these things at ALL times... the role of our Democratic government is NOT to legislate these types of things. We the People have allowed our elected officials to don the cap of a Socialist Dictatorship and infringe on our personal rights and decision making for these exact situations and I beleive that this is the original point of the start of this thread...

This is when it becomes really bad... when "we the people" actually think and believe that more government and more regulations is always the best answer... what would Thomas Jefferson and George Washington think of what we have allowed our government to become?!?

Sounds like a broken record for me as well... good job! #1 echos true for this month especially... fish the screen... matures are staging and teenagers are searching for food, wherever the marks are, fish them... temperature is only a reference for a blank screen to feel good about your setup...

Had my buddy Kurt and his 8 year old boy, connor out this morning, Set lines about 6am in front of the river in 120' on a north troll, screen was on fire, but no bites, turned south at 150' and the 95' rigger fires with a 5 lb king, got him in and then the 130' rigger starts screaming with Kurt on the rod, then the 230' wire goes and I'm helping Connor manage that rod when the 260' diver starts screaming.. we ended up losing the wire screamer, but boated the rigger as 17lb king and other wire as nice 7lb domestic bow... rergged and only pulled 2 more small 5lb kings and one other bite the remainde rof the morning.

I am pretty certain that I setup next to Longline Tom and tried to hail him a few times dafter the firedrill only to realize an hour later that I had turned the volume down during the firedrill, so if you got back to me, my bad.. sorry!

Anyway, good luck to anyone else out there, I heard a few reports that screens looked decent but bites werre few and far between, so my firedrill was right time and right place, thank god, it made the day!

I'm sure the temps were real... West winds will do that...

I would have rathered troll around for nothing than do what I was last night... getting my teeth cleaned and then cleaning the house after four days with 2 kids and 2 more adults in the house! Just keep the perspective, Rich!

Had my bro and his 5 year old out from South Carolina with a bit of a late start. No real rythm or rhyme today... random, inconsistent screen and bites... nothing big, kings were up to 12 lbs, steelie was about 6 lbs... slider and mainline bites. Temp was generally 50-70' down, screen was the same. 400' toward the end of the day was looking decent before some storms started brewing again and we had to run in.

Great thoughts.. I can totally relate as I acquired my dad's old boat after he passed away 3 1/2 years ago and think about the old times everytime I'm out... they're looking down from above and smiling.... no doubt...

Had Just Fishin' Rich out for a few hours this morning. Screen was very good in 120-130' this morning from 60-100' down. Temp was across a broad range, I had 59 at 70' and 50 at 100', the most active fish were in the 50-75' zone and were hitting the sliders and mainlines, wire divers at 165 and 180' on a #2 also took some bites. Action never got really fast, just a pick all morning. Biggest King was about 18lbs, others were 4-6 lbs. Did not mark much of anything in the cold water, though I sacrificed rigs down there from time to time, they didn't go, the screen was high and so were the bites.

We're doing fine here... Trysta is sleeping thru the night now and life is good, the next hurdle is Robyn going back to work in two weeks along with that ugly daycare word!

I plan on getting out Friday morning for a few hours... hopefully the flies don't carry all of the fish away!

I was out fishing with Rich (Just Fishin') on Saturday morning last weekend for a few hours and I can bet that he was wishing there were flies around to blame something on after I watched him dance around the back of the boat after someone yelled "Fish On!" and he proceeded to look at every rod and then grab the dipsey rod in front of him that was right next to the rigger rod that was straight up in the air pounding away.... needless to say that was like miss number 4 for the morning... and many new nicknames for our fellow LOU friend! I vowed not to bring this up, but he was begging for it earlier today...

Probably tough to tell now... looks like the cold water is upwelling after the east winds all week, so the fleas usually get spread out and seem to become less stratified except around the temp breaks and current changes....

We had another WNW Saturday afternoon and Sunday which liekly drove temps down even further, but at 125' on Friday I was reading 45-57 degrees and actually warmer the further out I went... there was no thremocline just a thermal break, so I surmise your probe was fine...

That's awesome! Way to go! I've never had a laker above 20lbs in my whole life fishing this lake... guess it was worth the price of the charter, huh?
