  1. Nice turn out at last night's meeting, around 65-75 people. A very accurate presentation was given showing that %90 of the Kings are in %20 of the lake any given time and constantly moving. While the U.S.A. had poor king numbers returning lake wide to US streams & rivers, the Canadian side had great numbers of fish returning(especially in the Ganaraska river) I have witnessed myself the healthy/predictable staging salmon year after year off most every Canadian port when fishing the Canadian tournaments. Biggest concern is we need to see YOY-Young of the Year alewife in 2016. If not , it will be 3 years in a row of VERY low numbers/future recruiting class. That would put us in "Unchartered Waters never seen before on Lake Ontario" Hopefully we will see YOY this spring with the short/mild winter we just had. Alewife stomach survey showed content of lower level normal food chain diet, No Adult alewife feeding on smaller alewife fry. VERY GOOD meeting with plenty of time for questions before-during and after meeting.

I look forward to attending the Rochester meeting also and advise Everyone to try and attend a meeting this year.

  2. The Pulaski meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8 at the Pulaski Middle-Senior High School (snow date Mar. 9). The other dates are March 3 in Lockport and March 14 in Rochester at RIT. The start time for all three meetings will be 6:30PM.

Please note the change in venue for the Eastern meeting.  It is at the Pulaski Middle-Senior High School.  The Pulaski School is located at 4624 Salina Street (Rt 11 about a ½ mile south of the main intersection in Pulaski).  The school has asked that no food or drinks be allowed in the auditorium but they are letting us use the cafeteria which is adjacent to the auditorium.

These are all open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.  I will see everyone at the March 8th meeting in Pulaski.

  4. If it is legal in the state your hunting in then leave it be.  If it is a fair chase issue for you don't do it but we shouldn't bad mouth each other for doing something.  I personally hate drive hunting...however I use it to my advantage.  Used to have neighbors that would drive there property the Friday after thanksgiving like clock work.  We would always kill a good deer because of there techniques...Best part is they were the whiners when it came to not shooting good deer....

As far as my feelings on feeding them...well I hope to shoot a Booner next year in Saskatchewan while his head is berried in a pile of alfalfa....Good luck harvesting them any other way in the Boreal forests of the north!

Nice deer Jakey and everybody else who scored this very difficult season!

  5. I brought it up at the meeting.   There are some facts missing from the discussion.  Nobody including the DEC thinks the dumping of the browns at scriba was a good idea.  It "was" an approved stocking location because of the access to the lake quickly.  Unfortunately the fish didn't disperse.  The weather was to rough for the barge to make its appointment to take the fish out into the lake.  From what I heard from others that time frame nobody was going out onto the lake period.  Not charter boats or rec anglers or commercial barge operators....

Once those fish are loaded in the stocking truck they are not going to be taken back to the hatchery period.  There is a disease transmission issue as those trucks are used to haul fish from all the hatchery's all over the state.  Anybody with any kind of fish culture or biology background can see this.  It has zero to do with unions, zero...Not sure where that came from other then reaching for excuses.

WHAT DID COME FROM THE QUESTION BEING ASKED WAS SCRIBA WONT BE USED TO STOCK AGAIN!  Everybody makes mistakes and it happens.  There was a lesson learned.

I was happy to hear the DEC admit it was a mistake at least they acknowledged that.  Now lets move on and keep asking questions
