OK but does anyone have concerns about the release fraying  the line, be it mono or braid?  I use the Scotty release and understood that one should always wrap their line with rubber bands to prevent this. Hearing from others on this would be really interesting. Or is this overkill on my part!

I've been running scotty releases since about 1994 and haven't experienced any line damage from the release.  Mono on the rigger rods but I run 65 lb braid for backer on my copper rods and clamp on the braid with scotty releases off the big boards and no damage.

I think the lake managers would want to know if this large group of 12-14 lb fish are 2 vs 3 yrs old. The few I have cut open have developing gonads so my guess is naturalized three year olds.

Then why don't the lake managers age these fish when they run up into the hatchery? And who says it's a large group. I guess you fish the Salmon river area of the lake all fall every fall? There has definitely been a steady increase of these 2 yr old fish maturing over the last 10 years.

I consider a teenager a 2 year fish . Now what is the avg weight of that 2 year old  ?

If returning to hatchery fish are avg 17 to 23 # , they must be 3 year olds for the most part  . Especially if there are no or very few 26 to 33 # fish .

When I say I have a teens king I mean is  10 to 19 # . Not a 2 year old . I see a lot of speculation on here about how old a mid teens king is . Does anyone know for sure ? We are assuming a returning  fish of that weight is a 2 year old . We might be wrong on that .

You seem to make a lot of assumptions. After 25 yrs of happily fishing the lake I would refer to a teenager just like my kids when they were growing up. 13 to 17 pounds was a teenager and always a two year old fish. !8 to 26 lbs was a 3 yr old and of course depends on whether we are talking spring or fall. You could argue the point all day without scientific proof of the age but why? Enjoy what you got because you will not change anything on a message board. In my experience fishing the east end, over the last 10 yrs the number of 2 yr old fish maturing has been on a steady increase. Whats a two year old fish? 12 to 15 lbs in the fall.

Journeyed out in the fog this am for a short trip with my brother his girlfriend and her son. The little guy was super excited to be in the boat and sat next to the downrigger pole most of the trip. With his hands on the pole. We only had a couple hours so I could feel the pressure. I’ve never prayed for a laker, but I was this morning.
Sure enough a dipsy finally popped off and the laker battle began. I should mention that the biggest fish this boy has ever caught was a “sunny” so  when he saw the fish 10 feet from the transom he was losing his mind.
We landed it, thank god and he was as pumped as a little person could possibly be. It was a nice laker, and the entire experience made me remember the times when my dad brought my brothers and I trolling and what that meant to us. I forgot how satisfying it is to put kids on the boat in Lake Ontario when trolling for these fish.  I know it made his day, but he made my more than he knows.

i bought the unit in 2018, thanks for the help.

A card at half price won't matter, none of their software will work with the unit, they no longer support the Lowrance Hook 7. They have zero, no software that could possibly work. No cards, nothing.

Bottom line is I have a $700 door stop

Last Lowrance product I will ever buy.

Friend posted this one up. Help you out?image.thumb.png.15209f8b725e9736300f43308e5a1197.png

Found out my Lowrance Hook 7 Triple shot came with a Navionics card that has no overlays in it. Navionics doesn't support the older cards so I have a $700 door stop.

Unless someone has an older card, I would need a Navionics Card MSD/SD US East  , hope to hear from someone with better news than Lowrance or Navionics had.

I'll post this up on my local MA fishing site and see if anybody can help you out. What year is the unit?

  8. New in the box. Paid $699.00 on sale at Cabelas last year and decided it wasn't going to work for what I wanted it for when I started setting it up. Never worn and everything works as it should.

$350.00 shipped to anywhere in the eastern US.

Powered up. Solar charging capabilities give you up to a 20 day battery life according to the manual.

I got scammed badly on 2 fish finders on FB Marketplace. the 1st one didn't have a PP account but found a friend that let him use his but we had to do friends and family. after I paid I never heard from either of them again. the 2nd one didn't have a PP account either. after a few days, he came up with the idea of paying with Zelle through my bank and as soon as he was paid I never heard from him again. So now if it's more than a few bucks I will only pay with PP goods and services.

I've sold about 7 grand in machinist tools on FB market place in the last few months. Four out of five responses are from scamming Aholes. Fortunately I learned that before I got beat.

I am pleased with my Traxstech's.

    X2

Although I always preferred my riggers mounted to the gunnels with a backing plate. I could remove my riggers with one bolt when needed and remove the swivel mounts  and riggers with 4 thumbscrews.

  11. I used round cradles and layed the torpedoes in sideways. Tail toward the back and they worked out fine but they were on a flat raised board across the top of the transom. I'll see if I can find a picture.

  12. I've always been happy with Boat US insurance. good rates on my charter business, great coverage and good claim payment. Towing was included in my plan but never used it because Hank, L&M marine was the only guy I let work on my boat.. He found problems before they became problems on my Penn Yan.

Yeah, last night I thought condensation because it was milky but the level wasn’t much higher. Today it poured out when I pulled the dipstick after running it over an hour on the lake. It was running fine but wanted to keep an eye on it.  Definitely smells like gas in there.

Not sure I would run that motor until you find the problem. Good luck.

I agree  Change oil and filter before further use. If it happens after another trip or two ( check frequently ) I’d be looking for cracked crankcase or head or blown head gasket

    X2. It ain't condensation.

I was reading here on l o u about the New York State boater safety course some saying it's a good thing somewhere complaining about it. All the knowledge in the world ain't going to help you if you don't use good judgment and Common Sense. I hope everything works out well for the guy with the swamp boat.

Seems that post disappeared for some reason?

  16. I'll be trout fishing on one of my local ponds if the wind isn't cranking. I'm curious as to what, if anything it will do to the trout bite. Got the word out to my bass fishing buddys to see if any of them will be out., Haven't heard anything yet from the bass guys.
