  1. Took this pic just as the sun began to rise on Sunday 9/2 while fishing with my good friend UnkelJim and our two boys out of Oswego. It doesn't get any better than this... And ended the day with this this pic just before sun went below the horizon.
  2. I have a Cannon Speed & Temp probe that the small wire on the bottom of the unit has broken off. With this gone, the unit won't send past 10 feet, so it's virtuallly useless unless I can get it repaired. Does anyone know if this probe can be repaired and if so, where?
  3. Thanks to those that have served and gave all to give us our Independence and the freedoms we enjoy in our great country, UnkelJim, my dad and my 8 year old son were able to enjoy our freedom in a day of fishing out of Oswego. Started in 130 fow just west of the chute on a north troll and it didn’t take long before we hooked up on what seemed like a really good king 75’ down, 20’ back on a NK28 Glow Frog, but 5 minutes into the fight, poof, gone (how do they do that???). For the next couple of hours, we had consistent hits, ending up with 3 kings (20lbs, 18lbs, 7lbs), 2 browns (4lbs, 7lbs), 1 Lake Trout (5lbs) that fought like a king, at least until we found that the dipsy had not tripped, and 1 Steelhead (5lbs). NK28 Glow Frog, NK28 Silver Frog, and a NBK Spin Doctor-wire/dipsy 250’ with Green Krinkle fly were the active lures for us today. Hits all came in the 60’ to 80’ down range. Later morning we couldn't buy a hit, and began running through the gambit of colors, sizes, speeds, depths, direction without any further luck… but hey, the freedom to enjoy this great sport is worth all the fish in the lake. Enjoy your Independence everyone!
  4. From what I interpret, on the www.loc.org site/Derby Rules, it appears that the minimum age of a witness is 10 years (who is registered as a youth). I think your OK as long as both kids are registered. Get them registered and good luck! Section (7) of the Derby Rules.
  5. Thanks empty hook, we're definately excited about getting it on the water this weekend to give her a wirl.
  6. Hey Gray, will try this again... guess the site got zapped again but they were able to restore most. 1989 Crestliner Sabre, 165hp Mercruiser, 9.9 4stroke Evinrude kicker, Lowrance LMS335, Cannon Speed&Temp, (3) cannon mag 10s, Garman GPS, VHF, and most important according to Unk, am/fm radio. She's got some cosemetic work to be done, but functionally she's in great shape and just about ready to go in the water... Just need to christen it with some salmon blood now. Of course it's had its share of fish in it since it use to belong to Team Total Chaos, so maybe she'll bring me some good luck too.
  7. Hi Clarke, Unfortunately, we've pretty much used up the ability to take those mid week days and are back to Sat. and Sundays now. It was nice given the boat traffic is much lighter, but you miss having a bunch of guys chattering on the radio about whats going on and what their getting them on (like the information is accurate any ways ). Lou
  8. UnkelJim and I went 8 for 11 Tuesday all browns except for 1 Coho. Browns range from 4 to 7lbs, Coho 7lbs. Most browns caught in 20’ to 40’ of water on FT and Blk/Silver J11s off the boards, and 2 browns off the riggers 10’ down, 40’ back on a Green/Silver Stinger. Coho on NBK Spin Doctor/Green Crinkle fly wire/dipsy 100’ of line out over 120’. Couple missed releases off the riggers with the Green/Silver Stinger over 130’, 30’ down – UnkelJim’s got to get faster at getting those poles when they pop… Went out to 250’ looking to hook up on a king but didn’t mark much for fish, and obviously did not hook up either. For a couple of amateurs still learning this lake, not a bad day… have had worse, but haven’t we all.
  9. Here's UnkelJim's derby winning fish. The picture was not the best, but Jim's friend (myself) was so excited at the dock, that I left my camera sitting there and lost it with the majority of our photos on it. Nonetheless, the pics not too bad. By the way, anyone find a Vivitar 400 Digital Camera, there's a $50 reward for the SD card in it.
  10. Thanks everyone, UnkelJim is out of town for a couple of weeks and wasn't sure he'd be online at all, so he asked me to watch the board for him. We're going to have some pics here in a day or so that I'll post. It was a tough day of fishing on Sat. as you well know. That NNE wind did not make for a very nice day on the water. We picked up a couple of small cohos early in the mornning, then we trolled for what seemd like an eternity until around 11:45 when the wire/dipsy took off screaming. By the time we got that out of the rod holder and started fighting the fish, two more lines popped with cohos on them that decided to start shooting back and forth across the lines, it was tense for a moment but one coho shot up the side towards the front of the boat, then dove underneath and cut the line on the prop (I think), the other we landed and were able to give UnkelJim room to fight the fish. Of course all of us kept the pressure on him by telling him he could have a $10K fish on the line, which he replied with... shut the ... up, I can't breath as it is. 15minutes later, we had it in the boat and decided to end the charter right then and go have the fish weighed. We could't believe it when it top the scales 2 ounces larger than the current fish of 24lbs. Much thanks to Fish Doctor and his son (in another boat), who gaves us the report that he picked up a couple of kings and some cohos near the power plant in 85 feet of water. When we got to the area, it didn't take very long and the poles fired with the king and two cohos. And Billy, I hear ya, I second the Labatts. The beer will flow when UnkelJim gets home... Reellaxing (Lou)
  11. Hey Gray, fishing was slow but not for the lack of trying or seeing fish. We marked a ton of them, but just couldn't get them to hit anything we through at them. Water temps were 39 to 40 at the ball until we got over to the Bar the next day where we got up to 41. We did managed to hook up on a few lakers on Sunday... ask UnkelJim about the one he bent a hook on... may have been on the board. Hope the water warms a bit for you guys by the weekend. If it does, I think you'll smash them. Good luck. Lou
  12. Did exactly what Seasquirrel is recommending and it works great. You can buy the liquid tape he speaks of now in a spray form right at Lowes in the Spray Paint section, which makes applying it even easier than painting on.
  13. Thanks Mick and Jim. Nothing better than getting you kids hooked on fishing, the younger the better in my opinion. I had a pole in my son's hands at about 2 years old catching sunfish off a dock... he's just realized there is much bigger fish to catch now. Seeing how some of these kings strike and how big they can get, I could see why a small boy would think they are sharks... And Jim, you're right, Dad was pretty darn exited too, probably more so than Logan. The count down is on, not too much longer and we can start chasing those spring browns...
  14. Son's first King from last September out of Oswego thanks to Seasquirrel. Great day on the water and a 7 year old hooked for life. All we talk about now is when can we go for Kings again Daddy? Thanks Seasquirrel! Son's second King caught on 18 mile creek. Remember when catching a fish like this was as exicting as this.... wait, it still is!
