  1. lynd ive mentioned this before if we could call into weigh sta from water but now were really puttin a load to those guys....but with all the I phones out there we could axcess the site from the water and those of us with them (not me) could work togeather on a given channel ...................Ie: this is pegasus on ch 68 with a 12 lb steelie is it worth the trip to the scales.............maybe you could put a added note at each station (regerstration ) that if we all work togeather we can help eliminate excessive fish kills.

Ray I couldn't agree more with that statement but I want to see the "trend" in fish size to establish a basic idea of the previous years catch. This info is far greater to me in the early days of derby. We always wonder if we should run in a fish only to find it wouldn't/would have been bumped off that day

  2. I have 4 rods that were my back ups and just don't need them kicking around any more.

2- 8'6" Diawa graphite strike older but in good shape $10 each

1 - 10' Diawa graphite strike also in good shape $10

1 -10' Kodiak rod nice looking rod, good dipsey or leadcore rod it's on the "soft" side

  3. "Let's say you caught a fish that made the board. When it's your turn at the rod you happen to land another fish that would make the board. Well you know if this fish is smaller than your previous one, it's no good. And, if it's larger you will knock your previous one out but if you let your buddy register it.."

Dave, please post the most recent derby stats so everyone knows if it's worth running a fish to the scales or not. Why should a bunch of 10 lb trout die if they don't stand a chance at placing on the board.

  4. I fished on the St. Lawrence River last Wednesday out of Clayton . The river is at least 2' low. The marina at French Creek has 2' under the boat , it usually is 4' deep in the marina . The water marks are evident on all the docks and rocks all along the river. This is a bad situation as this is the time of year when the water is usually the highest. The marinas will be high and dry by August if we don't get some serious rain.

Just thought I'd toss this out there, as of Sat. April 24, 2010 the Lake Ontario water level is 244.8' the long term avg. for the lake is 245.7' this info comes from the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper. The lake is ONLY down 9 tenths of a foot. That is 10" guys and I'm not happy about it either but unless the Army Corps. starts holding more water at Malone we are in for a shallow season :@:@:@

  5. I'll give it a try thanks. Is that a round head or banana shape or flat?

Cabela's, Spro buck tail jigs their sold from 1/2 to I think 3 ozs. Not cheap but high end jigs tied on Gamagatsu lead heads. To answer your question about shape their somewhat torpedo shaped. Just restocked my supply because you will lose a few if your fishing it right. That is Real close to the bottom.

  6. Bp,

You might want to take " Gator" s advise on this one, His boat "Nothin But Net" has put a Lake Trout on the board for the last 4 years and

having the pleasure of being a part of it I'll tell you flat out 1 1/2 ounce white bucktail will produce 99% of the time. Ya might even hook a sturgeon, every year someone on the boat sticks one. :D

  7. With the right prop a 9.9 would push your boat around with no problem. Your not going to be happy with a 25 hp stuck on the back. Sounds like you might not have enough room back there any how.

  8. Just re-powered last year and put a 09' 150 HO on my Lund. These motors are amazing and run so smooth. Idle at 500 rpm and full throttle screams at 5500. HO put out 175 hp at shaft and hole shot is very impressive. I wouldn't hesitate about the Etec one bite.

    Tight Lines,

    Steve

  9. I'm not totally sure but, should I expect 5-6' of sink per 10 yards from a 27 lb. core rig. Planning on cutting it for boards and running 1 six color and 1 four color. 30' and 20' respectively ? Any suggestions from you hardcore lead men. Will it fit on a 27 Sealine with 200 yards of 20 lb. powerpro behind it. Looking to expand my spring spread outward

    Thanks,

    Steve 8)

  10. This new law has nothing to do with drunken summer boaters.

It is in our own interest because it enables us to survive in very cold water for better than 2 hours, while without a PFD your chances of surviving in very cold water for better than 15 minutes are slim.

It may sound strange, but this law is good for you.

Maybe you should re-think your statement " enables us to survive " your body WILL shut down within 15 minutes. Your arms and legs won't work , your core temp will lower beyond 85 and you lose consciousnesses, maybe if your following the PFD law there will be a chance of recovering your body with out a dive team. Hypothermia kills

Got off to an early start with out any hits till 8'am, needless to say my greenhorn partner drops the first 2 releases and can't seem to figure out that once I've set the hook you don't really need to slam the hook home a few more times. (Deans 6'4 & 320 lbs.) OK now that I've got that out of my system we're working north when 165' wire rips, 22lb king in my hands. Then 3 steelhead as fast as I can get spoons down. First 28 glowfrog, then NBK stingray twice. We get too about 250' and theres decent bait and hooks in this zone then spindocs on wire out 210' fires nice king 18lbs.

Work out to 350' picking at them all the way , best depth for us was about 285' seem like every time we'd see bait we get a release. Had a great closer to the Fall LOC :yes::yes:

  12. Gambler How big is your boat to fit your ego filled head. It has to be WIDE. Did you ever think that where the fish are is where they are caught. I have fished Sandy when you had clear blue cold water. Every port has there day. the fishing is good off Braddocks bay the river and I bay.

Did you ever think to just look at the current standings Rod hog ??? Brian, our stats speak for them self. I hope the fall LOC can repeat its Sandy Creek productivity :D:D:D:D

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

Heard earlier in the day temp was deep and knew with the strong west it would be a one-way troll. Left the genny and ran to point of Braddocks then turned north running the swells out. Shut down in 100 and worked north to 160'. Temp. was 50 down 95, set a 4 spindoc set 95 & 105 on the riggers and wire out 285' and 300'. First hit was the 300' wire, fish was jumping out of the waves like a marlin!!! way cool the see a 20 lb king skipping from wave to wave. 2 other fish were less than 10 lb. Great night to prove how SOLID a LUND really is

  15. I was wondering why the past derby stats have not been posted since 2007? I like looking back to see what the bottom of the board was the previous year to give me a ballpark figure of what goes in the cooler and what swims to catch next year.

I'll second that Brian, maybe it would kept someone from running in a "small" fish. Although its still exicting to see your name on the board

    Tight Lines,

    Steve 8)
