  1. Personally we did not like the Eagle Claw Starfire rods; we just got rid of both the 10' we had for wire.

We just switched to a 8' Quantum Affina and so far it has been the best wire rod we have had

What about the Eagle Claws did you not like?

WAY too soft, IMO, for a supposed dipsy rod; like the post above a lot of bend before the first eye., the pole just did not have enough backbone, IMO.

We didn't like them for wire, we have a Eagle Claw on our lead and like it.

We have also tried a 8'6" downrigger rod and hated it, used it once and went back to our old shakespeare alpha rod.

  3. Captain Todd,

Thank you for your post. I went out yesterday evening trolling for browns inside water. We did 2 for 3. 5 lbs Brown was the highlight. So many browns on the screen. Temp surface was between 54 and 60 from 10 FOW to 35 FOW.

    tight lines.

Good to know that browns are still inside. When we went out this mourning we saw a few working very tight around shipbuilders.

We headed way out deep and work 350-600 and marked a lot of fish and bait but only a few takers. On MAG Green/Glow NBK; MAG Chart/Glow NBK and the glowfrog spinney/hammer fly; all off the riggers our wire has gone cold of recent

  4. Not sure these guys carry parts, but ya never know what they may have laying around:

    Jay-Ve tackle - 266-0880

    Mitchel's - 663-4564

What down temp/speed unit do you have? I have a subtroll and won't be using that rigger until the weekend if it will get you by until then.

    Shawn

We have a subtroll as well  Thanks for the offer that is awesome!

But I think we found the parts @ Screwie Louies, they were sure they had the parts however the guy that differently knows is at the Oswego store and will not be back until 3:00 this afternoon.

  5. thanks I already looked at fish307. I haven't called to see if they actually had the parts in stock or not. Will call shortly when we get back to the dock.

Of course the rigger that broke is our down temp probe so we were hoping to get something so we could get back in the water this afternoon.

Of need be next day air from fish307.

  6. am i missing something? the lake forecast was ne winds with wave 3+. so i cancelled wife and kids for fishing. your report says 1 ft what am i missing? do i drive down every a.m. with boat and family, that seems like a waste of gas and getting everyone up at 5 .a.m? what do you guys do?

look at the weather buoy and determine. We have gotten up and left the dock just to get out of the pier and turn around.

We found it hard to believe this mourning after a full day of 6-10' waves yesterday no chance for fishing; but we were pleasantly surprised

We did run offshore this tonight; temp is a bit better but very few fish. Did 1 king about 10#.

inside waters have gotten even colder from this AM -- 40.x* down 35 over 45

  7. Todd,

Thanks for the report - this satellite imagery confirms your surface temps of the current near shore upwelling. Did you have a chance to work off-shore at all?

    Thanks,

    - Chris

We did not as we had to get back in someone early to get back to work. Some radio chatter from boats fishing 550+ fow and had surface temps in the mid 60's; and reports of A LOT of bait but few and scattered targets

    ====================

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

Fished West of the bay started at the sewer and worked towards Forest Lawn. Cold water everywhere (not much of a surprise)! surface temp 55-58 down temp 43 @ 40' over 60'; 50 @ 20' over 30 - 50.

Only bite was a brown while we were changing our fixed slider, it was maybe 10' down on a NK28 Green/Cooper NBK

Marked a lot of bait but not many targets

  9. Great stuff guys! Thanks for all your help.

Big Dave - Yes 47LC. It's an older model, but still works great. It's just sitting on the shelf so I figured I would put it to use.

One more question though. What length rod are you all using? Just a standard 9' - 10' dipsie rod? I realize I need to change the tip. Thanks for letting me know that as well.

We use a 10' with twilli tip

  10. We fish out of a Scarab/Wellcraft 25'; 8'6" beam with Twin 115 yamaha 4 strokes....no problems at all, we have fished in 5'+ waves without problem

No storage problems; holds 6 rods under the side rails, plenty of storage under the center console(5'1" headroom), ; 2 in floor fish boxes; 180qt in floor cooler

We have been toying the idea to replace her with a 35' Scarab Tournament CC

  11. We have some bar spots in our sub-troll cable around 90', you just have to make sure a bare spot is not were the antenna reads. We have no problems and have about 4" of bare wire. If we stop it in the antenna it does not work, if we just run it out/down past the antenna or deeper(we run it up to 125') no problems with speed or temp

Check connections and interference possibility as suggested above

  12. wehad to do the same thing. i assume you are talking about the depth raider? we have a rag on the bout just for that. when we talked to the manufacture they had never heard of it, but it seems like a common issue.

same problem/fix with the Moor Sub-Troll as well

We have never had a huge build up of fleas on our cables. Not saying that once in a while we have maybe 1/2" or so of them when we bring it up

  13. I agree ^.

We've had Mag 10's for years and not one complaint about their product. When we first bought them, we lost the terminator and with one call to customer service and 5 minutes, we had new ones shipped to us free.

We are also running Mag10's......:beer:

Excited about seeing these new riggers out of Cannon

Billy; are the Cannon "dual axis rod holders" something new as well or will these work on our older mag10s? I see them in the picture with the new riggers. It looks like they mount between the base and the rigger?
