  1. I heard last week that by the end of the summer, gas may reach $5/gallon at your roadside gas stations. I can't even begin to calculate what that will equate to at the marinas. This is rediculous!!

    they said this months ago....

$5.00 is coming sooner than the end of summer

  2. i'm sure the do it to intentionally "mess" with us

we have more problems with power boaters running close, both rec's and charters. We will be trolling and here comes someone motoring from or to port and will run within 10 feet of our boat.

the average boater regardless of it being a sail boat or power boat are clueless

it is also easier to run a red light...but you don't because it's a law that you have to stop

    rules are rules...flame away

  3. Secondly, blow boaters are among the most ignorant, self absorbed ego maniacs in the world.

most power boaters are as well among the most ignorant -- even those who have a USCG Captain's license

    technically USCG inland navigation rules:

Power driven vessels(power boats) must give way to: Sailing Vessles, when only under sail(if he is "motor sailing" it is then a power driven vessel).

Im sure someone will claim sailboats have to give way to fishing vessels that has gear in the water -- this does not include sport fishing vessels, only commercial fishing vessles

  4. Coming off the HUGE success of the Don Johannes/Pete Deangelo Memorial Tournament last week in Olcott we have decided to run a similar event this Friday in Oak Orchard. This no rules, no observers, FUN Friday Tournament will become an annual tradition in the Lake Ontario Pro Am Series. It is designed for the everyday angler, the amateur angler out prefishing for the ProAm, and the seasoned Pro working a charter or prefishing for the tournament as well. You DO NOT have to be entered in the Pro/Am Tournament to enter this tournament.

You can register ONLY at 4 C's Marina and Restaurant. The entry fee is $100 per boat in CASH ONLY.

    The Rules are very simple:

--Entry deadline is Friday, June 6th at 6:30 AM. You MUST register at 4 C's Marina.

    --No Observers

--Only trout and salmon may be weighed in

--Heaviest 3 fish (one entry per team)

--No more than 3 fish in a cooler

--Fish must be caught Friday June 6th

--Fish may not be altered in any way (such as adding weight)

--Weigh in between 1 PM and 3:30 PM at the ProAm tent in the Marine Park

--All awards will be paid in CASH

--Winning entrants MUST be present at Awards Ceremony to win.

--Awards Ceremony immediately following the ProAm Captain's meeting.

Don't miss this terrific opportunity to get paid for Pre fishing!

See ya at the Weigh in.

    Paul

Sounds fun. Last week was a very fun thing. Unfortunetly we did not weight anything the ones that we got to the boat were all small around 5 lbs and one 10lber....we had a tough time keeping the bigger one's hooked :(

We had one that hit our dipsey out 200 ft and didn't turn it around until it peeled out another 130ft...we saw it on the surface a couple of times but didn't get it to the boat, spit the hook

I'll see if we can get out for this one as well, weather looks bad for the upcoming weekend

Payout depending on entered boats I assume? How many were entered last week? Also what ended up winning the Olcott 1 day?

  5. HI Todd,

    NO OBSERVERS!

I believe both McDonough's and Hedley's have slips if The Town marina doesn't.

I also think there are some left in Wilson--though I'm not sure what marina. Give Kevin Jerge a call at the Boatyard or call Sunset Bay.

    See ya there

    Thank you!!

We found a slip earlier this mourning at McDonoughs, The Town marina was full

We are going to fish Thursday, spend the night and fish your tournament on friday!

  6. Anything special when tying the backer to the leadcore? we are running 30# power pro and 27# leadcore. from what i have been reading the albright knot seems to be the best.

maybe i have been reading too much as some knots they say to pull back the dacron and cut the lead then thread the line through the dacron

    thanks

    todd

  7. NO!

Next year 2009 you will need a passport to enter and return from Canada. If you are an american you don't need anything to fish US waters except a fishing license.

You can also troll into Canadian waters as long as you do not land in Canada and have the aprpopriate licenses. Remember no alcohol on board in Canada.

I got that info straight from the boarder patrol.

    RR

    Not 100% accurate--

If you are fishing near the US/CANADA boarder or in Canada in Lake Erie everyone on board will need a passport, you will also need to report to the . I am not sure if this applies to Lake Ontario but I would assume that it does.

This article was in the D&C and USA today about a month ago

    By Mimi Hall, USA TODAY

Rick Ungar's charter fishing service promises a great time on Lake Erie. But there's a catch  and it's not freshwater fish. It's the Homeland Security Department's new anti-terrorism rules.

When the 2008 charter season begins next month, U.S. citizens paying to fish on Lake Erie will have to bring either a passport or two other IDs if they plan to cross the northern border's invisible watery line.

When they get back to shore in the USA, they'll have to drive to a local government reporting station and pose for pictures. They won't be posing with their fish, but for Customs officers via a videophone connection.

That's because half of Lake Erie  as it happens, the half with the deeper and cooler waters that often spawn the best fishing  is in Canada. The Homeland Security Department intends to enforce new border security rules  largely focused on those coming into the country by land and air  on fishermen re-entering the country.

Ungar and many of his fellow charter boat captains  Lake Erie alone has 600-plus  are incensed.

They say the rules are difficult to follow, will dramatically cut down on tourism and won't protect against terrorism.

"How does this secure our country?" asks Ungar, a retired Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio, police chief. "I'm not insensitive to law enforcement issues, but these are fishermen, for God's sake."

The rules apply to all the Great Lakes, but opposition is most potent on Erie because the geography of the lake means the best fish are often over the international line.

Some operators haven't decided whether they'll continue fishing in Canadian waters. If they do, the operators will be required to:

•Fax in passengers' personal information  name, date of birth and government ID number  to the local Customs and Border Protection office an hour before they leave shore. The names will be run against terrorist watch lists.

•Make sure passengers carry either a passport or a government ID and a proof-of-citizenship document.

•Send the passengers to a local border protection reporting station after landing, so they can call in on a videophone.

Officers will be watching and doing spot checks on patrol boats and government aircraft. "Our concerns are anything from terrorists and terrorist weapons to drugs and undocumented aliens," says Brett Sturgeon, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection.

Jim Bonner, whose Sunshine Charters business has been taking tourists fishing on Lake Erie for 25 years, calls the rules "a waste of taxpayers' money."

    "It's a shame" he says. "It's just wide-open water."

  8. Wednesday Aug 29

Left work early and were on the lake at 1pm. Very calm lake so we ran out 8 Miles almost directly North out of I-Bay. Fished 380-480FOW, great down temp 44deg at the probe 80' down. Slow start but the action picked up around 420FOW. Fish hit on our dipsey, but by the time we grabbed the rod fish was gone(Fish took Chrome Echip/Siggs Habenaro Fly) with 150' out. Moments later hit on Chrome Echip/siggs Hypnotist fly out 220' off the dipsey landed 4# king. As I was bringing that it we had another fish hit our deep down rigger on the slider(Orange Superglow NBK) and we landed a 11# Atlantic. We just got this one to the boat and were unhooking it and our shallow rigger took a huge hit. At this point it would be our 3rd fish in about 10mins and all the lines were cleared. Fought the fish for 45mins and brought in a 28# king. This fish did not want to come to the boat took 3 long runs.

Then we got our lines set back up and had a hit on the shallow rigger again and it wrapped itself up in the dipsey line, still landed it about 11# atlantic.

    Ended the day at 4pm ----- 4 for 7

Took the king to the weight station and it was 27#13oz not quite enough to make it

    Thursday AUG 30

Got to the lake a 730am and saw some lightning so figured we would fish in close and watch the storm pass. Set up at 120FOW. Shallow rigger fired and we landed a nice 20# King. After a few more passes and no bites we picked up and moved out were we were on AUG 29. Fished there for a couple hours nothing, the wind picked up so we moved back it. Set up and had another hit on echip/hypnotist fly 20#king. Made a few more passes had a hit on echip/hypnotist fly and landed a 15# Rainbow. Fished another 30 mins and headed in. Weighted the fish and are sitting tied for 4th place.

Ended the day 3 for 3

The fishing is out standing right now!

Saturday we will be fishing out of the oak

  9. Started fishing at 7:00 and finished at 11:30. Started in 180 worked out to 280 FOW. Good temp surface and down.

Everything that was in the water caught fish. Spoons, Flies(Siggs flies have been out hottest), Echips, SpinDr, Cheaters, Riggers, Dipsey's

    Riggers were down 50 and 75. Dipsey's out 110-160

Ended the mouring 7 for 11. Mixed bag of Kings, Coho and Steelhead. The biggest king was 22# and the coho and steelhead were 8-10

Good thing we didn't listen to the weather report
