  1. We launched at 7:30 with Captain Larry Jones at the helm in 32 degrees. We trolled the north basin and at just shy of noon hooked up and landed this 45.5" beauty. My first muskie. My brother Matt had another one on an hour later but we never got a look at it as it came unbuttoned not far from the boat. Captain Larry put us on bait and fish all day. Hard to get them to go with the cold front in but he made it happen.

  2. Went 7 for 8 on rainbows in 150'-185' of water. Fished 7-11. Riggered spoons and flasher/fly combos fished off wire divers produced for us. Green was the hottest color. All fish taken 45'-55' down. We aren't too familiar with the geography down there, but we were a couple miles down the lake from the north launch. Most fish were taken near the east shore but we fished the middle and west also.

Nice to fish a Finger when we usually hit the big lake for salmon and the larger trout. We fished Ontario on Friday (out of Irondequoit) but ended up skunked (had one on for 4 or 5 seconds is all). 55-75' of water showed tons of fish and bait but they suffered from a severe case of lockjaw (for us anyway).

Nice to get down on Canandaigua and catch such pretty fish. Here's the biggest fish of the day - a 6 lb male. All the rest were clones about 3 lbs.

Just a note on the launch at Canandaigua Lake State Marine Park: the fee is a vehicle fee, not a launch fee. I drove separately from my brother who was towing the boat. When we pulled out we each owed the $7. Quality launch and docks, though.

  3. Wow, Larry, so you're saying that these combos were stowed away and the thieves overlooked the setups you had laying about and took only these? Thus, your suggestion that it must have been a client or someone knowledgeable about your equipment?

    Any bad client experiences lately?

I assume that you did file a report with the local PD or Sheriff's Office.

Brother made the trip up from NJ for some Fair Haven camping (cabin site at the State Park). Launched at 0530. Started in 80' of water. Marked some hooks at 95' with no takers, but marked waypoint. Trolled out to 140' with almost blank screen. Hook here or there. 50 degree temp was down 50-60' generally. Finally had a hit on the 60' rigger at about 0900. Boated 6 lb. steelhead. Thin fish, but beautiful. 1/2 hour later a 5' brown on green/ladder spoon also on the 60' rigger. These were both in the 95' depth.

Pretty stark overall. Fishing out of an 18' boat had us too skittish to head real deep. Saw some other boats working this area and deeper. Hope folks are connecting. Fish are definitely more scattered compared to our last outing of Hughes, a little west.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

Headed straight out of the bay to 80' of water. Found fish in 90 or 95' and set a waypoint that we worked for the rest of the day. Never found much fish outside it. Fish there filled the column from 20' to bottom. Not much action considering the passes we made. Took the steelhead near the surface off boards with deep diver rapala black/silver. One more hit off the board natural/black gold. Took the king off rigger down 50' stinger blue/yellow spoon (nice to feel the king fight).

Nothing after 10:00. Saw lots of boats in shallow working for browns in the dirty water. Hope they hooked up.

    Beautiful morning on the water.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

To quote ScottB from another report - SUCKED!

After yesterday's mild success to the east of the bay (and nothing west) we headed east of the Bay and trolled past Webster Park. Clear water all the way and sun (opposite of yesterday). We ran 6 lines today - one rigger at 5-15' depending on depth and one line out the back. Spoons on the rigger, sticks on the board lines. Boards with two lines each. Trolled 10-30' all day. Had one hit in 20' of water on a jointed Rap in gold/black but fish not home when we grabbed the rod. That's it. Beautiful morning on the water, but could have been perfect with some fish. Had eyes on 12-15 boats and didn't see one net move, but hopefully someone caught some.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

Launched out of I-Bay for the first trip of the year. Battery wouldn't do it at the launch, but a generous fellow angler let us borrow his jump box (thanks, man!) and we got under way. Headed east out of the bay toward Webster Park. Fished four lines off planer boards and one flatline straight out the back. Picked up 3 fish in about 45 minutes about 8:00-9:00 and thought we were going to have a 10+ fish day. All were in 12-17' of water. We fished 10-20'. 3 of the 4 four for the day came on various blue/silver stickbaits. Water over in that area is quite clear. Later we headed back toward the bay, but no action. Turned and hit another fish approaching Webster Park. Decided to head west to see if many of the other boaters we had seen at the launch had gone toward the Genny for muddy water/or the mudline. Didn't see much over there. Temp at the Genny mouth was 50.0. Trolled west and in but nothing. Still foggy, but the sun finally started to shine through a bit. Trolled back past the pier but still no action and we pulled for the day. Kept two 4.5 lbers for the grill.

Back out tomorrow - probably hit the same area and hope for southerlies and some sun (chilly out there today!).
