  1. Corey, I know you moved to Florida. I PMd you a month ago. Please check your messages or email me directly at [email protected] MarkG
  2. Greg, thanks for your reply (and your troubleshooting). This was just as we were mounting it to the boat, so not pulling a weight, just some resistance that I provided with my arm, but nowhere near what a 12 lb. weight would provide. My brother spoke with Penn about it and they suggest something in the circuitry, so it's going to them. Thanks again. MarkG
  3. Installed used 820 and 825 downriggers on my brother's new boat. We put an inline 30 amp fuse in on 12 gauge wire. One rigger blows the fuse when powering the rigger "up" only. Down it works fine. Other rigger does fine on the same line, etc. Any ideas on what is causing this? We replaced the male plug on the cord from the rigger, tried wiring with 8 gauge wire on the positive from the female plug all the way to the fuse and on to the battery - same effect - blows the inline fuse. Again, one rigger works fine and it only blows the fuse when trying to power up. All advice welcome. HELP! MarkG
  4. Searching the reports I don't see anyone that's launched out of I-Bay. Are the docks in down there? I am in Webster, so I will launch either there or out to Hughes. Could run to the river also. Any advice? Thanks. MarkG
  5. Yes, thank you very much. Friend is going with the OptiMax. MarkG
  6. Thank you both - very helpful. MarkG
  7. A friend of mine plans to buy a Tracker Targa 185 for trolling and still fishing in the Finger Lakes, mostly trolling. Estimated package weight per manufacturer's site is 3,000 lbs. A Merc 115 Optimax and 115 EXLPT EFI Four Sroke are the same price. They have trolled before with another boat employing bags and buckets to get the speed down. Will they be able to troll down with either of these? Is one a better choice for fuel economy (a 7 mile run to the deep waters where they troll and then some hours trolling). Which one would you choose? I have this over on the Boat forum, but thought I might get more reads over here. Thanks for any advice. MarkG

  9. My apologies. I'm almost certain yesterday that no location showed, but I must be mistaken. MarkG
  10. The Internet is global and readers of this site reach far and wide, so to get a local sale you might want to indicate where you are. MarkG
  11. Could you please email me with your contact information at [email protected] Thanks. MarkG
  12. So, has anyone been down in the last week or can anyone tell me if it is launchable right now? Can you get into the boat from the permanent structures or do you need to climb in? Thanks for any advice or help. MarkG

  14. I have this rod that I bought to fish muskies. It doesn't get any use, and is a little big for me to cast all day. This is the TS80XHSF model, one piece 8'0", extra heavy action. I took this on two trips, where we almost exclusively trolled. I bet I made 50 casts tops with this rod. It has a couple nicks, and rub marks, but otherwise like new. This would also make a great saltwater rod, as it has the power to throw large lures or bait (rated from 3/4 oz. - 3 oz.). This cost me over $120 and today would probably be $150. I will take $80 for it, cash, you pickup at my home in Webster, NY. Email [email protected] or call Mark 585.671.4381. MarkG
  15. Thanks to you both for the advice. I am looking at a lot of lodges up there, and my father and I did stay two nights on the last trip out on the French. It is beautiful. I will check the lodge you recommend. I don't think a 16' boat will be enough to fit the three of us comfortably, though, so I need to keep that in mind. Thanks again. MarkG
  16. We are planning a trip up north mid-September. Fish targeted are Pike and Muskie. I went up there 7 or 8 years ago with my father and did some fishing. He's not much of a fisherman, but he would like to go out with us a bit. Trouble is, he has knee problems and getting in and out of a boat can be quite a task. I am considering a pontoon boat as an option, as it should be comfortable for him and easier to get in and out of. Trouble is, I've never been on one, so I dont' know, plus I want to make sure that it will be suitable for our fishing, which will be both casting and trolling. I worry about trolling with a pontoon boat, and I worry about actually landing a good size fish from one. Is there a platform on the back where you can get close to the water? Can you troll effectively out of a pontoon boat? There are some resorts that also have standard Princecrafts with captain's chairs that also might work for us. I would appreciate any advice on the boat issue and any recommendations on resorts to look into. We would be staying 4 nights. I am leaning toward something on the south or west ends to be fairly protected in case we get some wind. Any other advice on spots closer to us (from Rochester) that would offer good quantities of pike and muskie is welcome. MarkG
