  1. Had a new experience today on the lake and have to share it. We finished out the morning in front of myers point and did ok for the day but it started slow. It was going to be our last pass and one of the riggers fired- we were deep at 120 down, alright the we grab the rod reel like crazy got the slack up and the fish is there it's pulling like a laker all the sudden the rod doubles over and almost out of my buddies hand, i yelled what are you doing and he just said "holding on but I've got a monster". Turned out we hooked a 29in laker off the rigger once the rigger tripped and we caught up w/ the slack a 5.75lb brown hit the slider. It was crazy, I ended up clearing all the roads on the back of the boat and we landed both fish but it was funny to watch the line have a 90 degree bend in it and see it pulling in both directions. We netted the brown, it cut the line on the slider quickly and eventually landed the laker as well. And then proceeded to the doc for a few cocktails and many laughs.
  2. Alright I have been reading the posts on this site and many others regarding fishing the finger lakes (mainly cayuga) for along time and have gained some very useful info that will at least give a direction to lean toward for upcoming trips. I have been fishing cayuga for 17 years and really never took it seriously always used the excuse it's just nice to be out and enjoy. well over the last two years I have put tons of time in on the lake, on this site and others like it and w/ my nose in books. To make a long story short I have been doing very well this year trolling for Lakers, browns, salmon and the occasional rainbow. So I wanted to first take the time to thank all the people who have provided me w/ the know how. Now I fish every weekend - catch fish and have a ball. BUT I wanted to give some back to the site and it's members/readers. I wanted to let everyone know that yes we did fish the Tourny last weekend caught a running ton of fish. I know we lost a few that would have placed us on the board and had respectable catches each day. So here is our fishing report: we had 3 hot spoons all made by Dave at R/R Tackle (mytacklebox.com) 1. Barney. 2. #28 Black/Grape -Glow Belly and 3. Grape/ Chart w/ Black eye. We used his new 8in Assassins attractors in all different colors. We Ran our riggers at 90 and 105 down w/ sliders and our dipseys anywhere from 210 to 165 back and kept a speed of 2.6 to 2.1. We stayed south and did all our fishing from Crow Bar Pt to 1 Mile North of Taughannock. We ranged our depth from 125 to 350 (no pattern there). Hopefully this post will be helpful and satisfy the people who complain that there are only readers and few who post. I will try to offer up valuable info as often as i can. And would hope now that I broke the ice others will share what they did this past weekend on Cayuga. Lastly Checkout R/R tackle, I have only known Dave for a short time and can't say enough good things about him and his product and to top it off he's a local small business owner right in Broome County who has fished the lake we fish. And hopefully I can meet some of you in time and we can share tip and stories face to face. I keep my boat in a slip at finger lakes marina at meyers pt. So I don't have the luxury of seeing people at the launches and unfortunately 99% of the people in the marina don't fish. Keep your heads above water! John AKA Mower
  3. I just found out today if your still not registered for the tourny you have time, You can drop off application at the Sal. Army till 7Pm Fri or put it in Barney's Mailbox at his house. As long as they have it prior to 7pm your good for Saturday. Good Luck all- looks like we'll be bouncing pretty good Saturday w/ a good South breeze! Mower
  4. I'll be fishing this tourny as well, I'm running out of the Finger Lakes Marina at Meyers Pt. I'll have a blue /white sea ray. What Channel do you use on the VHF? My handle is "Mower" As a side note fished all weekend and banged them all three days. Mixed bag of Lakers , Browns and Land Locks. They seemed to be schooled up pretty good usually once the down rigger tripped, keep your eyes on the dispey's cause it wasn't long. We had alot of doubles on and the fishing was steady am and pm. Usually pulled into a cove for a afternoon siesta and swim. Hope to meet some of you this up coming weekend.
  5. We've been pounding the lake this w/ minimal results. The only pattern that i can truly say will work is get crabs and fish the points. A few we fish are sheldrake, long pt, crow bar pt. Start at the out side edge of the weeds and drift deep keeping in contact w/ the bottom. Last weekend we caught fish all the out to 42 ft on sheldrake pt. Vertical jigging will work as well w/ tubes. John
  6. You can use the launch at Sheldrake PT it's a couple miles below long point on the West side. I have used the launch before to launch a friends 25 cruiser, but it's no state launch.
  7. I know there is two or three for sale up in the Finger lakes marina. I just remember seeing the for sale sign on the way to my slip. I can not recall if they are are actual hulled or on pontoons. I do know know they are all floating in the water as we speak. There ages my be a deterrent even though they look nice.
  8. Reminiscing years ago I used do alot of trolling w/ streamers. They were the tandem hook style and more often than not did well on the land locks. I was just curious if anybody else is still using them. I know I used to fish them behind dodgers, flat line w/ them and my most productive was off the planner boards.
  9. I am in need of a person who can replace part of my boat floor. It is only about 6 x 6 area that needs replacing but I have scabbed in enough and now it's time to bite the bullet. We were running up cayuga this morning after a very poor 5 hours of trolling and the driver's side floor finally gave way and now I have a rocking chair instead of a normal chair. I was hoping to get through the season and do it this winter in my shop but that plan fell by the way side. I am too busy w/ work to spend the time to do this and the summer is too short to have to sitting on the trailer. If anybody knows of a good person to fix this right I would appreciate the info. I' have the boat in a slip in Lansing but can tow it where ever it needs to go. Thanks John
  10. Just wanted to say "Hey" and let people know that I'm a new member but do plan on contributing as much as possible. I tend to fish Cayuga Mainly everything from Salmon and trout to bass and pan fish. Cayuga has been my fishing lake for 20 plus years and we do well when out. I hope to share some info and insight as well as maybe trade a few secrets. looking forward to meeting everybody.
  11. New to LOU Page, I've decided to finally rig my 25 cruiser for fishing, only because cayuga can put a hurting on the 17 ft lund in a good wind. My gunwales or narrow and won't hold my Big Jon base plates. Do you you where I could get a right angle or side mount to fit the Big Jon's? I do know Scotty makes one but I would guess they are not compatible?
