  1. Very sad to hear the fall tourney is going away. I agree with Chad that it was my favorite of the year.

Larry, I know all of the work you put into the tournaments every year and hope you get enough thanks from the participants for everything you do to make each one a success...or at least know that I greatly appreciate all of your efforts!

Does this open an opportunity to have more a fun tournament for all of us during the fall? Maybe a small tourney of some sorts...one of my favorite parts of the tourneys is when we can all get together and catch up. I also think it would be more fun for Larry since he could actually fish it and not have to sit at the pavilion while we are all trying to catch the big one!

  2. Panfisher: This fish was caught in Lake Erie (11-4) trolling with a lure that Zach custom painted for Captain Larry Jones.

Big congrats goes out to Capt. Larry Jones and Vic Thibault for landing such an awesome, fat fish!

Zach: How great does it feel to see something that you did show such amazing results? I would expect that it has to be one of the better feelings out there

  3. Dan: We were the second last truck to leave the launch on Saturday. I told Chad that I thought it was your truck and trailer that was still there, but we did not see you on the lake. I am excited to hear about your trip and maybe get to see some pictures of your fish.

The best part about chad falling in the water (well, all of it was great actually) was that he got so upset thinking that he was getting texts from you and from Ronix of fish caught (if you guys were fishing) and that his phone was dead from the water!

I had a really good time fishing this weekend and hope to get out next weekend also. My niece is having her baptism on Sunday, so it looks like Saturday is my only chance. Ronix: I will be watching the weather closely throughout the week, but will give you a call later in the week if I am going to get to go.

  4. Great fishing guys! How did your third guy in the boat do? Oh, that is right...I canceled because I was nervous of the weather (stupid stupid stupid)! I am still glad you guys had such an amazing day with insane numbers and even better sizes

Red October Baits is actually known for some great hardware used. I know they use some of the best hooks and split rings on the market. I am guessing you were using a "through the nose" setup which is known to have a lower hookup rating. Check your rig at the top to see if there is an extra hole (eye) where you can add a split ring and an extra treble hook.

Mark Arena has a great description about this on a youtube video done in 2010 --

Take a look around the 1 minute mark for a good explanation and a quick demo.

    Again, great fishing!

  5. Billy,

What a great looking fish! Were there any marks on her?

From everything I am reading, I am interested in the sizes that are getting caught this fall on a cast vs trolling. It seems like most trolling fish are on the smaller size while a number of fish caught casting have just been amazing.

  6. Here are the results (from the NMA email chain):

    20 guys entered

    5 fish total caught

    1st place - 40"

    2nd - 36"

    3rd - 33"

The other 2 fish were a 34" fish (the guys did not get in for weigh in) and a 31" fish (they lost the fish when holding it for a pictures).

I did not hear anything about prizes that were given.

  7. The water color is a little better than the tournament weekend, but still not great. Also, the bite has been real tight. Everyone that I have been talking to are seeing only a few follows and even less catches. Hopefully the weather changes and wind shifts will turn the bite back on.

I am in a 17.5' 2006 Tracker Deep V with a walk thru windshield. I have not had a chance to musky fish myself (starting the week fishing with my family and making sure they are enjoying their time means a lot of perch fishing and also trying for bass and walleye). Hopefully I will be out on the water going for Mr. Toothy tomorrow and the rest of the week! I will keep an eye out for you and ask that you wave to me if you spot me first.

    Best of luck fishing.
