  1. For a relative newbie the "2 Spoons" thread was so good I have to ask a similar question: If you could only have 2 Flasher/Fly combos what would they be? Brand/Color/etc.
  2. Do you guys run J-plugs with flashers or just by themselves? Also, I recently read a thread about not securing the J-plug to your line with a swivel because it can get crushed with a fish attached. Do they need to be tied directly to line/leader?
  3. It seems as though I read more about flashers used as attractors compared to dodgers. Is it safe to say if targeting kings and steelhead flashers are preferred? Reasons? The only flasher I typically run is a spin doctor (various sizes and colors). Does everyone else run a mix of spin doctors and other flashers? I also usually only run flashers with flies. Am I missing the boat by not running spoons behind these? If so, is the leader length similar to that for flies? Finally, is it important for the flasher color to be similar to that of the fly and/or spoon? For instance, would you run any of the greenish color spin doctors with a blueish color fly or vice-versa? Or if its a greenish color flasher stick with a greenish color fly? Thanks for the help!
  4. Visited NK sale today, they had them in 28 & mag, already taped.
  5. How do you rig the rubber band to hold the cheater?
  6. I am a season under my belt "newbie" also but spooled with 30lb PowerPro braid last summer to pull dipseys. Fleas do attach but my personal experience is not that bad. Don't be afraid to use the braid, it'll work fine and the $$ is half of wire.
  7. I have a smaller (17') boat that I am planning on equipping with a pair of manual downriggers, gimbal mounted. Keeping cost in mind any recommendations for brand? So far have looked closely at Big Jon, Cannon, and Scotty. Opinions about what is absolutely required as a minimum for these riggers is appreciated. Thanks in advance for everyone's wisdom. 8. New Guest 2611A On-Board Battery Charger with 10' Charger Wire Extension Kit. This is a 10-amp charger (5/5) for a 24V system. I bought this brand new in 2004, installed it on my boat, and then moved to Rochester about a month later. I removed the charger before selling the boat. Never even plugged this charger in, its basically brand new. Asking $100 or best offer. Here's a link to their webpage that describes the unit, it looks identical: http://www.marinco.com/product/10-amp-d ... -charger-0 Call me at (585) 317-3608 or PM if interested.

  10. Anyone have any tips for Honeoye walleyes this time of year? Fished from 6am - 11am this past Saturday and only had a few crappies, a few huge panfish, and a large mouth to show. New to fishing Honeoye and have read there are a lot of walleyes. Any advice on coaxing them to bite this time of the year is appreciated.
  11. I'll do my best to keep this short but am looking for advice on trolling setups. I don't have riggers but want to try and get in the game with Dipsy's. Please give some recommendations on the following (or more if I missed something): - Line weight from rod/reel to Dipsy? Mono? Braid? etc? - Size of Dipsy? - Type of knot from rod/reel to Dipsy? - Dipsy settings? - Length of leader from Dipsy to lure? - Line weight of leader? Mono? Braid? etc? - Type of knot from Dipsy to leader? I only have a 17' center console boat and plan on running 2-4 rods. I have never done this before or actually seen the setup in person so simple responses are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  12. Considering purchasing a new boat with a new E-Tec. Anyone who has any experience with these motors and can share the good, the bad, or the ugly would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

  14. My personal experience with fish finders is that you really can't go wrong with one of the Lowrance models. Since you already have the GPS you have some pretty good choices within your price range, from the X510C (Color) to X96 (Black & White). I've owned Lowrance products and have always been extremely happy with their performance, especially when you become familiar with getting the most out of the unit. I fished with people who have had other manufacturers and models and there's really nothing wrong with them but, in my opinion, Lowrance is truly second to none when it comes to fish finders. I would encourage you to take a look at this link, Lowrance has both tutorials and guides about selecting sonars. Depending on what you intend to do with the unit this little bit of reading will probably go along way to making sure you are happy with your investment. Good Luck.
  15. Considering buying a Triumph 170 Center Console boat for dual fishing purpose: trout & salmon on Lake O. when they are closer to the shore and walleyes/pike/bass on the Finger Lakes. Anyone have any experience with this boat or similar model Triumph and have comments? Boat is rated for up to a 75hp motor but dealer insists the 60hp ETEC will be more than sufficient. Again, thoughts or comments? Finally, wrestling with trolling motor setup...bow or transom? 12V or 24V? Thrust? I know I'll use the trolling motor on the Finger Lakes but would I ever use it trolling for trout & salmon on Lake O.?
