I know that these people do boat covers at time and I thought I would share my experience. There motto is "The Shadiest Business in Town". It was true this time!

I took my canvas awning to Rich's Custom Canvas to be repaired in the fall of 2009. There was a seem that needed to be repaired. On 4/6/10 I received a bill from a company called Russ's Refurbishing in Depew, NY for cleaning and waterproofing. These are services that I did not request. I contact Custom Canvas several time and was directed to a person named Alan. Alan kept saying that he would be talking to Russ the next day or in two days. This continued for 2 weeks. I finally contacted Russ and asked if he had been contact by Alan in regards to my awning and he said that he had not. I spoke to Alan on 4/23/10 and said that I just spoke to Russ and Russ said that he had not been contacted by Alan. I then said to Alan that I wanted to know what was going on and he said that it is my problem and I would have to work something out with Russ. I told Alan that I did not feel that I was responsible for paying Russ for services that I did not want or request. Alan's response was "You are a f---ing a--hole and a f---ing liar. You will be lucky to see your f---ing awning again." He then said, "You can go f--k yourself, I am done talking to you.", and hung up the phone.

At no point did I ever swear or raise my voice during this conversation. I can't believe a businessman would ever treat a customer like this.

Back at it again today. Ended up going 3-4 all browns, all released. Went out with someone else today but could only fish for about 2.5 hours. The water was clearer then yesterday and a little warmer. On the water we saw four or five white garbage bags suspended under the surface waiting for someone to run over them and snag some lines or the prop. Tried reaching them but they were a little to deep. Still a lot of stuff floating around. Hopefully be back out on Sunday weather permitting.

I'll tell him to try it next time we go out. Where can you get it?

We did launch at the state park, the water was a little low but manageable. I wish we could have fished for 3 or 4 more hours, I just couldn't put him through it. We'll be back out on Sun.

Last night, the wind was suppose to be less then 10 and out of the SW. When I woke, it was 15 out of the NW. The ride was a little bumpy and we only fished for about an hour. The friend that I took out, left his breakfast sandwich and Gatorade on the lake floor. I decided to turn around and head home. We were only about 1/2 mile from the pier heads. Great day for the fish. Here is a picture of the biggest, the rest were nice healthy 4-5 lbers.

There are two other tribs within a few miles of this stream and all of them had decent steelhead runs. I wonder if maybe this stream may have been open when others were closed. This stream consistently gets a good run every spring.

I stopped down to take a few pictures today and was amazed at the number of fish that are still in the creek. I wanted to bring a thermometer down to see what the temp was but I forgot it at home. Here are a few pictures of the creek. All of the pictures were taken within 150-200yds of the lake. In some of the pictures you can see some of the steelhead. At one hole there were over 15 fish. Some of the pictures aren't the clearest, I apologize it is hard taking clear pictures when you are trying to prevent a pit bull from diving into the creek after spawning fish. Also a lot of the fish were still paired up and appeared to be spawning. I though for sure that this would be over by now.

Will smelt eat y-o-y Asian Carp??? I don't believe that they are a cold water species but maybe smelt will be useful at "Carp Control", as well as fattening up trout and salmon, and serving as a vehicle to get cocktail sauce into my mouth.

I think I will take some pictures of the stream and post them. I have not been to the stream in two weeks but imagine that it is little more then a trickle by know. Unfortunately, I have heard of a lot of people talking about this stream. Hopefully the little gem is not ruined! I know that part of the stream has been posted due to irresponsible people.

I can't remember catching a fresh steelhead in the stream when the temps were this warm. I will agree that catching steelhead during the summer can be more entertaining then catching salmon sometimes. Any day now. I can't wait to see the first salmon report from the bar.

I was amazed at the fight these fish had. The first one I caught had to jump ten times. Warmer temperatures = more active fish? The last one I caught, I think wanted to run all the way to the lake. Great fun and hope to make it out one more time.

Fished a nice little trib, water was almost perfect. Clear enough to see the bait, not enough to see the shore! Ended up 4 for 8 all steelhead. One was an absolute pig, we guessed around 15. It was the biggest steelhead of the year. Lot of fresh fish in the water, this last storm really helped out. All caught on pink eggs under a float. We were only there for about 2 hours. I think the next few days will be very nice. Here is a picture of one going back in.

Hwm, I know a handful of people that had their first fishing experiences on charter boats, going in to it they feel that 5 or 6 hours is to long, with a good captain the time will fly by. On a good day, your children will probably be to busy reeling in fish and talking to the captain to notice that they have been on the boat for 6 hours. Without a captain, you can spend countless hours driving around wasting gas and your children might lose interest. Trout and salmon fishing can get very expensive! The cost of one downrigger (most boats have two or three), is the same as a day on a charter boat. In my experience, if children go on a charter and catch fish they want to do it again. If they do it on their own boat afterwards they will have more knowledge and more patience (usually). Growing up, my father spent a ton of time fishing with me. Looking back on it, it probably was a pain, everyday I didn't have school I wanted to fish. 5 AM Saturday morning others would be sleeping, I'd be waking him up to take me fishing. He created a monster! But to this day we have a great relationship, now we take my boat, and I pay the entry fees.

Both are free this time of year and there is enough water at either one. The fort is nice because you don't usually have to walk up and down the hill.

If heard that they are catching lakers and some browns out there, emeralds, egg sacks, and Kwikfish off of 3 ways. The launch in the fort is open. I spoke to one person that fished the bar today and got skunked. You might want to try trolling the shores instead. I guess it is all just personal preference.

I have always believed that steelhead return to the stream that they were born to spawn and then either die or return to the lake. I think that this is general accepted as being true. I have a stream near my house that is full of steelhead in the spring and occasionally sees some salmon and browns in the fall. In the summer this stream is usually dried up and most likely over 80 degrees during the day. During the spring and fall this stream has an average depth of about 1 foot and an average width of about 4 feet. My question is if the stream is too warm for the fry to hatch and return to the lake, how do we end up with more steelhead each year? I have two theories. 1. They are stocked fish and were never imprinted on a stream. 2. Natural reproduction occurred, fry hatched ans swam to the lake before dying because of stream conditions. Just curious. Let me know what you think.

I am partial to the Stone Jug, the rooms are cheap. The people are incredible and there is a bar downstairs. All of these locations are within two minutes of the fort launch and one minute away from the village launch. The village launch is free. Good luck!

If you keep the speed between 1.8 and 2.2, I don't think you will have any problems with action. When in doubt, test it next to the side of the boat.

If the slider is attached above the diver, I don't understand how the diver would stay attached to the main line. It seems like the resistance from the diver and the snap pushing into the release that it would knock the diver right off. I'm with you John.

Tony, if you want salmon I would start out at the red can which is about 5 miles out of the mouth. It goes from 45'- 120' real quick and keeps getting deeper. Depending on the day it might be spoons, paddles or spindoctors. Bring them all and keep trying till something works. Usually a starting point for me with four rods is two spoons on the dipseys, spin doctor on one rigger and the deeper rigger usually has a paddle and a fly. Colors are pretty standard greens, purples, white spindoctors and red paddles. Just a starting point.

I just checked the ten day report on weather.com and from Friday- Friday it is suppose to stay above 40. If the weather does stay will anyone be out running the shores next weekend? I know it is a little early but I might have to give it a try! I checked a few of the smaller tribs at the west end today and they are starting to show some signs of movement.
