Thanks guys. This helps

I relatively new to trolling the lake and last year had some success. This year I'm upping my gear and Im setting up 2 diver rods. The reels are Okuma Storm Runner 45D. Big reels. Didn't realize how big when I got them off FishUSA last year as the pair was a deal. I'm not planning on running cooper or steel on these. Don't like heavy lines like that. I want to run braid or mono and I'm confused as to whether I should use 30# or 50# mono for backing with braid as my main line or use something else for backing and what I don't know. I've been reading braid is used for backing also. I was also thinking that I might not want to run braid as my main line because of fleas and run Blood Run 30#. Need some advice please

I was at the Niagara show a few weeks back and took a class on trolling dipsey divers for walleye. One of the first things the instructor mentioned was calibrating your reel to read what the line counter was telling you. I tried to write down the process to do it as I have several line counting reels that don't give you the actual line out reading but I wasn't fast enough to get it. This process was supposed to do that for you. I've measured off 100 ft in my back yard and some of my reels are within a foot of the actual 100 ft, no problem but others are off 10-25ft. Would love to get these to read correctly or at least within a foot or 2 . Does anyone know the process to get your line counting reel to actually read what the line out is.?

So I've done a lot of reading on meat rigs and they seem pretty effective from what I've read and seen. My only question is where do you get the "meat" for the meat rig. I've seen some artificial stuff but I'm a big believer in the real thing. Do bait shops around the lake carry cut bait to use? Can you order some on line

I'm new to salmon fishing and know what spin doctors are but I've been hearing a lot about "mini" spin doctors for cohos. Are the minis the 6 inch spin doctor or is there some other shape and size I'm not finding? Thanks for the help

What does everyone use for leadcore weighted line. I'm looking to start fishing with the stuff but notice it comes in 12, 15, 18 lb and beyond weight. This isn't the pound test is it? Thanks

I picked up a used 9.9 honda for my kicker motor. It runs fantastic. It came off a boat that just had a gas tank with inline bulb. I can't use this setup as my fuel line has to go thru the splash well and the bulb is way to close to the out board for me to reach. No problem on rerouting everything except for fuel line size. They had 5/16 coming from the tank to the bulb and then after the bulb had it necked down to 1/4 going into the motor. The majority of the line is 5/16 but about 18" is 1/4. My question is should I just run all 1/4 inch or all 5/16 or try to combine the 2. combining the 2 would be difficult in my application because I need to have the bulb close to the tank and they had it close to the motor. Does it even matter what size the fuel line is? Thanks

So I have to mount my transducer on the project boat which is an aluminum 22ft Sylvan converted offshore model. Would be nice not to have to drill holes in the transom. Anyone have any experience with the different types of stick and peel or epoxy glue on style transducer mounting plates? I'm looking to mount an Airmar P66 to the boat and one of these mounting plates depending on the responses I get. Thanks everyone.

Unfortunately the Honda kicker I got came with controls and has no external shifter. I did but a throttle master for it though to control my speed to 0.1 mph increments

I've done a little research and Honda cables and Mercs aren't interchangable. Thanks anyway

Thats good to hear thanks

I purchased a used Honda 9.9hp for my 22ft project boat. Motor runs great and it came with throttle/shifter controls but the cables to reach the kicker motor on my boat are short. This is only my second boat that will have throttle/shifter controls all my other boats were tillers. Is it possible to get longer cables and replace the existing ones or do I have to buy a whole new throttle/shifter control box with the correct lengthen cables.

I'm at the point now of my rebuild which is a 22ft Sylvan Offshore to a wide open fishing boat. I'm planning on trolling lake Ontario for Salmon and trout. I now need a Depth finder / fish finder. I like Garmin products and I'm thinking of the STRIKER™ Vivid 9sv. My budget is between $600 and $900. Any comments on this product or another that would be better for around the same price I'd appreciate the advice. I've always had very simply depth finders and don't want anything to complicated to operate as I write CNC programs for a living and the last thing I want to do is have to learn another software package that requires a lot of brain power. Thanks

Shakemsman, You said it for sure. Still not sure how I'm going to mount this kicker as the transom on this boat I'm building is curved on both ends and poses a challenge as to a limited area that I can mount it without interfering with the main motor. I know there are a bunch of options for mounting and steering a kicker. I think i might just go to a Marina up around Lake Ontario and have them install it as I feel they see the most of this stuff. Im in CT and wouldn't bring my boat to any of the marinas around here for a kicker install. All the marinas around here are Saltwater places and I've never seen a kicker on a boat down here in the salt so I feel they wouldn't have the best solutions to a problem like this

Thanks guys. I have some thinking and planning to do now

I have a line on a used Honda 9.9 4 stroke for 1000$ Not sure of the year but looks newer. My question is that it's a tiller control and I'm going to want to convert it over to a dial throttle for a kicker and hook it up to my main motor for steering. Any issues using this motor for a kicker or getting a kit to convert it from a tiller to remote. thanks

Great Laker thanks for the pics!! I'm planning on a steering linkage on the back of the motor that turns them both at the same time. Also want to use a master troll system for trolling. I haven't seen the other system of steering that is in front of the motors. Will have to check that out. Thanks everyone. Sent from my Pixel 3a using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I'm remodeling/rebuilding this Sylvan 22ft Offshore and want to put a 10hp kicker on the back but I don't believe I have the room to hang it right next to the main motor. Does anyone have a picture of how they mounted a kicker to a transom of this shape. Thought of a kicker bracket but want to use a power trim option and not sure if you can put a Panther tilt trim on one of their brackets. Sent from my Pixel 3a using Lake Ontario United mobile app
