  1. Thanks guys.....will work the switch first. It still works, I can manage, but had some buddies on board last week and caused undue issues..... Dave
  2. The lake population needs some trimming for sure. I read the DEC letter that came with my 2012 log book and was not impressed with their direction. Basically, it says DEC is going to think about reallocating funds away from Keuka as the restocking program was not working effeciently enough. Sounds to me like giving up is the more proper term. Why not let unlimmited lakers for a year, and stock LL, RT and BT in pens ( let them grow a few more inches before release) like they use in Lake O for Salmon? Just saying..... Dave
  3. Good Day, Having some issues with one of my DR's (4 seasons old). When pulling up to raise 10' or 15' - you have to push the switch to the down position to get the ball to start back down, then up again to get it to the depth you desire. My other DR is working just fine. Leading me to believe I have a switch issue. Just a quick post to gain some additional thoughts? New switch needed? Thanks, Dave
  4. First trip of the season.....great day. Typical Keuka lakers, bluff and west branch. Mostly stick baits - stackers - and ff - gr/gr. Fish all over the place - from top water to 120 down over 150/160. Smoker was working over time that night...as well as the cold ones . Gave the browns and rb's a try with some smaller spoons, but no luck. Tight lines, Dave
  5. PASS IT - Please! I would like to see the RB abd LL have a chance to grow a few inches in Keuka.... Dave
  6. When is the deadline for returning? Anyone know?
  7. I like a bit more green.....but other then that, everything you mentioned is all in the right area. I like a little shorter behind the ball, but all what ever you are confident in. Just keep it up and get out on the water! Dave
  8. Amen to the "another lake". I have fished this lake hard for the past few years. I would love to work with the DEC to get this "Laker Mess" straightened out. I have read a few different stockings options for 2012 and only hope some change is made. The Lakers do taste great on the smoker, but a little variety would be nice. Dave
  9. Sunday was a great day to be on the water. Not so good for me in the fishing dept. My wife and I drove over a ton of fish working the bluff and up both forks about a mile or so. Down rigger power cable went, so I was limited to a single rigger, 2 DD and a flat line up top. Had a nice one on the DD (gr sd and hammer head) but he rolled, jumped once and spit (not a laker act). Grass was heavy close to the bluff. I still have my #20 FF line on, was thinking that may be an issue. A bad day fishing beats a good day workin....... Dave
  10. Understood, it takes a long time and one must go slow when making these changes. I am guessing up to 4 lakers vs 3 for a year or two. Then after the numbers drop a bit, try to stock accordingly with bait and the other species? Anxious, but time will tell.... Dave
  11. Thanks Mike, hoping to get out Sunday morning...........season coming close to an end..... Dave
  12. Second Chance, that is the best news and best idea I have heard in a long time. I have a cottage on Keuka, and would like to support DEC 8 in that program! Indian, we have the same catch history. I have been on the lake for just three seasons, but have 15+ years on Lake O. I understand the value of propoer management of waters. I am 100% for no limit on Lakers and additional stocking of LL and Bow's. Let me know if anything comes up that I can help support the effort, I am in! Dave
  13. Second Chance, tell me more about the DEC and Keuka? I too would like to see the Lakers go down a bit, but what will DEC put in at that point?
  14. Being new to Keuka (3 years fishing with about 400 hours on the boat trolling) I have had the same results with the many many Lakers found and smoked. BUT, not much more...... My past experience is around 15 years of fishing out of Fair Haven on Ontario. I saw what happened to that town and area as the DEC played around with funding and stocking programs. It has since come back tremendously from 10 years ago or so. All the information from the past is truly amazing and also very sad to me, having just invested in a property by the College. There must be something that can be done. Do not under estimate the power of organization and the amount of knowledge we all have on this board. Sounds like several folks have attempted single contributions, or offers to correct, volunteered time and efforts, etc. Is there any chance of a unified approach?? Will listen to the more experienced fisherman here, but also would like to offer encouragement. This is a beautiful lake and needs a bit more then Lakers to keep folks interested. Regards, Dave
  15. All great reports, killing me! I took two weekends away for a vacation on the Left Coast and have missed some good fishing. This weekend, heading to Watkins for the six hour race on Saturday. But...next weekend...... on the water both days. Congrats on the LL's Mike....they seem to be comming back a bit. Dave
  16. First time...try off the bluff...both east and west side, deep this time of year as suggested.......8 or 10lb ball has worked for me. Dave
  17. Sounds great Mike.....heading out Friday AM I hope, for the first shake down. Hope to catch up with you this year sometime...... Look for the Blue Crestliner....with the riggers hangin' out the back! Dave
  18. Thanks! Looks like $100 rebate from Minn Kota as well the next few weeks. Do you recal the shaft legth you had Splitshot? I have measured 26" from the water level to the top of the bow where the motor will be mounted. Thinking 48" sounds too short. Minn Kota makes a 54"....but do not want too long either. Dave
  19. Good Day all...... Looking to purchase a new trolling motor for the Crestliner 18 ft. I have looked at all the buying guides and I am finding conflicting info. So, I thought I would ask for hands on real world experience. Minn Kota Terrova 55 was what I was looking at. 12v system to keep the weight off the boat with the 24v dual batteries. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Thanks, Dave
  20. OK guys, thanks for the info. Mike, I will be dropping mine off at Morgan's on Sunday. For sure, we need to hook up in the Spring. Giving one more weekend.....weather looks a bit on the windy side, but going to give it a shot, Thursday, Friday and Sat. Dave
  21. Good Morning, How did you guys do this weekend? Cold as heck I think, from what I heard. My last trip will be this weekend coming up, starting Thursday. Pulling the boat Sunday I think. Does time of day really matter this time of year? I have found it does not, but would like to hear your thoughts. Since the sun is so low, not as much effect on the fish depth. Might see you out there next weekend.... Ever on the radio? Dave
  22. Mike, thanks for the info. Looks like my trip will be 10/22, 23, 24 and 25..for the last one of the year. Long run for me to that end but I may try it. I am just North of the college on the East fork. I think I will try the Bluff early, then troll up your way for a few hours as a general starting pattern. You been on the water next weekend, might see you. Keep in touch, your info is helpful! Dave
  23. Hello all...heading up next weekend for a few days before I pull the boat. Anyone fished lately? Hope to get out a few hours, depending on weather. Thanks, Dave
