  1. Went out to Galloo and the lanes yesterday. Surface temp was 58. Fished off of Galloo in 15-25 fow around 6:45 am, went 7 for 8 on Browns, 7lbs was the biggest. The riggers took all but one, down 10-15 ft with blue dolphin Michigan stinger being the most productive. Once the Sun did away with the morning bite, we headed out to "the wall" in 105-110 fow. Few bait pods, but only 1 or 2 marks that were definitely kings, so put down cowbells for lakers. Managed 13 for 15 on Lakers with one tipping the scale at 20.5lbs! We fished 2.6-2.8 knots for browns and 1.6-1.8 knots for lakers. Hope this helps.
  2. Went out to the "shipping lanes" between duck island and galloo on 6/9. Fished for about 2 hours before we headed back due to a few passengers feeling green....went 0-1, surface temp was 54. Marked sporadic bait down 110 in 120-140fow but no solid marks with any consistency... Going back out on 6/22. Anyone fish the Lanes this year and have any tips in regards to depth, location, speed etc.?
  3. We are out of Cape Vincent as well, boat name Renegade II. We start fishing about a mile south east of Main Duck island. It's about a 19 mile run from the cape, so in anything but calm weather it can be a slow haul. Tight lines! -Steve
  4. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/15 Time on Water:7:30-11:30 Weather/Temp:75 Wind Speed/Direction: 5-10 knots south Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp: 74 Location:shipping lanes LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 11 Total Boated:7 Species Breakdown: lakers, kings, steelhead Hot Lure: blue dolphin Trolling Speed: 2.4-2.8 knots Down Speed: Boat Depth: 120-160 Lure Depth: 60-100 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Started our troll heading SW on the Duck island side of the Lanes. Fished down 70-100 over 140 ft. Picked up a 9lb laker right off the bat down 90 on a blue dolphin spoon. Within an hour we had 3 more lakers from 6-9 lbs, all down 80-100 on spoons. We started south towards Galloo, lifted the gear to 60-80 ft down, and sped up to about 2.6-2.8 knots. 15 minutes later A downrigger rod popped and immediately started screaming... It's a lightweight shimano reel with 12 lb test and after 20 seconds of the run, it had 400ft less line on it! We stopped the fish's run with about 1/5 of the line left on it....after 20 min we landed a nice 20lb king. We took a break for lunch and then started up again from 10:30-11:30 and landed another king (15 lbs) and lost a 6-9 lb steelhead that jumped for 5 min then spit it!... Both hit spoons down 50-60 ft over 120-150 ft trolling north west on the Galloo side of the lanes. Was a great morning on the water!! Hope to head back up in two weeks. -Steve
  5. Fished the Lanes today. We headed out around 5:30 but it took early 2 hrs to get there due to 3-5 ft seas. We fished 7:30-9:30 out near the ledge and did one 15lb king, in 140 fow down 100 on a black spoon with silver ribbing. Didn't mark much bait at all and very few fish in the 100-160 ft range we fished. We headed in to Galloo for bass once a guest started to feel queezy... Planning on heading back out Sunday. If anyone else has fished the lanes recently, please provide your input. Steve
  6. We have a 28 ft. Rampage so it'll hand 3-4 fters. Anything over that and it's not going to be a comfortable fish... We've had some success out there in the past this time of year but I haven't heard any reports yet this year. -Steve

  9. Thanks for the report Mike, and nice catch! We'll be up this weekend for the Salmon Spectular, we'll keep our eye out for you! Steve
  10. Thanks for the good info Mike. We've had a lot of success at the finger in years past, however, we will be fishing out of Cape Vincent this weekend so the lanes are looking like the furthest South we can get... Good luck out there! Steve
  11. Scouted the shipping lanes off Galloo island two weeks ago and marked consistent fish 35-60 down in 130-150 fow but no kings. Went into the island and fished bass going 6 for 9 trolling for bass in a little over an hour, biggest was about 4 lbs. Used crankbaits off planers down 8-15 ft in 17-25 fow. Heading out again this weekend, any word if the kings have landed in the lanes? even laker suggestions out there would be appreciated. Steve
  12. Thanks for the info Mike, I appreciate it! We'll be heading up again next saturday. By then the Brown's will be primarily in the middle depths 40-80 ft. so that's our game plan off Whaleys and stony point. Good luck out there! Steve
  13. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Renegade II ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water:7:30-11:30am Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: none Surface Temp: 48-51 Location: Stony Point LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 8 Total Boated:6 Species Breakdown: Browns and Steelhead Hot Lure: green/silver stinger Trolling Speed: 1.8-2.3 knots Down Speed: Boat Depth: 15-25ft Lure Depth: 5-15 ft ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS =================== Started in 15 fow on north side of stony point. Caught 5 browns from 7:30-9:00am off planers on Michigan stingers back 130-175 ft. biggest was 13.25lbs! Once the sun came out around 9 they shut off. We fished for another 2 hours and picked up a nice steelheed on a blue/silver stinger 150 back near the surface. Great day on the water!
  14. We fish out of Henderson and have some nice setups for bigger trout and salmon with medium heavy action rods and reels. I'm in the process of shopping for a few lighter action trolling rod/reel combos to be used for browns and walleye off planers and downriggers. Does anyone have any recommendations on rod/reel combos?
  15. Thanks for the advice! We trolled the north end of black river bay and hit them on blue/silver thunderstick and green/silver spoons. Caught most going 1.7-1.9 knots, 10-15ft down in 25-35 fow. Biggest was 7.5lbs. Thanks again!
  16. Hi all! Heading out this weekend for the first walley trip of the year out of Henderson Harbor and was hoping for a few tips. We've been hitting browns in the Stony Point area the last few weeks about 6 down in 15fow using stick baits but we've never been walley fishing on the lake and I'm assuming the strategy will change. We'll be using side planers small stick baits and spoons but does anyone have advise on fow, lure depth and speed? Any advice is appreciated!!
  17. I'll give the weights and the jigging a try. For jigging, what depth would one find lakers? Would trolling spoons down 10-40 ft at 2.5-3 mph be worth a shot, i heard this might yield a few bows. Thanks for the advice guys.
  18. Also, if its essential to get deeper than 50 ft. is there a non-trolling technique that would work?
  19. I've been fishing trout and salmon on ontario for a few years but this weekend will be my first time on Cayuga. I will be fishing without downriggers , with no good way to troll deeper than 50ft. We will target any kind of salmonoid, but need a little guidance with our "modest" set up. We are fishing out of the south end near Ithica. Any advice on what to target (lakers, LL's, rainbows etc), where to fish, lures, techniques etc. would be greatly appreciated!
  20. You can get special "flea-flicker" line made by Cortland. Its a shaped line that the fleas have a hard time sticking too. I run 20lb test with no problems.
  21. I fish out of Henderson Harbor and although we've done well with lakers, we are yet to boat a king... We've tried fishing the shipping channel a few times, a few weeks ago we had some good bait and predator marks and picked up a few steelhead but no kings, and most recently this weekend, we marked close to no bait and again, no kings. I thought the shipping channel was supposed to heat up around this time. Also we have been fishing with spoons and spin docs with flies at 2.5 to 3.0knots. Any advice about where to go right now to find kings or techniques to use in general would be very helpful, because somthing obviously isnt working. -Steve
  22. It's the one about 3 or 4 miles northwest of main galloo island, where if you look on a chart you can see a rapid drop off from about 50ft to about 130 ft. its basically an underwater cliff formation, don't get too close or who'll lose your gear. I'm headin back out there on the 18th, hopefully the kings have shown up.
  23. (Your Name) : Steve ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7/5/09 Time on Water: 8:30-2:00 Temp/Weather: 73 degrees and sunny Wind Speed/Direction: NW at 15 knots Waves: 2-4 ft Surface Temp: 63 Location: shipping channel LAT/LONG: (GPS Cords) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 2 Total Boated: 0 Species Breakdown: sea fleas Hot Lure: Kevorkian down about 40 ft took both hits. Trolling Speed: 2.5-3.1 knots Down Speed: no probe Boat Depth: 150 Lure Depth: 40-85 Second trip to the shipping channel, last weekend when we went it was overcast and relatively calm, we hit a bunhc of lakers with a steelhead and coho, marked a ton of bait but very few large marks. So we assumed the salmon were on the brink of finding the bait and having a feast...this weekend I dont know if it was the weather last week or just chance but we marked few bait clouds and fewer kings. Used a few atomic fly with spin doc combos of of dipsys down 60 and 75 and spoons on the riggers down covering 80-100 and 40-60. Had a nice steelhead (im guessing) on at one point but spit it. You know it's a slow day when the guests start commenting on how its "just nice to be on the water"... Hopefully we'll hit em next time.

    Hey

Name: Hey my name's Steve Location: Rochester, NY Home Port: Fish out of Henderson Harbor Boat: Renegade II, a 28' Rampage I fish for: Salmonoids I've been fishing on Ontario for a year and am still very much a beginner. This site has given me some great information so thanks for the posts.
  25. Hey guys, I've been admiring the pictures your catches hanging off of a board with the boat name in the middle and was wondering where I might go to get a board cut and smoothed with handles. I live in the Rochester area and have tried a few places like home depot etc but none of them do anything but straight cuts. Any help would be appreciated. Steve
