  1. 146 views and no replies? Is no one fishing trout? *BUMP*
  2. I have the week off next week, and I know I'm a few weeks late, but does anyone have a Trout report on any of the creeks around. I was thinking of either hitting Naples or Irondequoit creeks or Linear/ Elison Parks. If that doesn't pan out I am looking for some near shore off land or kayak reachable hot spots (any species hitting?). Been out of the game a while not looking for any secrets just for some general info. (I live in Canandaigua if you have something close by) Thanks fellas.
  3. I was planing on going out Saturday morning on my kayak but it was too choppy, instead I started on the dock in Cottage City (East Lake). I have an area were the water drops off quick into 25-40 feet of water within 50 yards of the dock. In my first 5 casts at sunrise I had probably an 18 inch laker who wriggled off just before landing him, then the big one hit about 10 casts later. I never saw it, but it was BIG! Nearly ripped to pole out of my hand. It doubled up my 7 foot pole! I couldnt set the hook because of the hard hit left only two fingers on the pole. By the time I was able to regroup it was gone. Both hit on a three-quater ounce spoon yellow with pink dots. The rest of the day I too had nothing! Absolutely nothing! Moved around near the north end due to the water conditions, so I was again forced into the shallows. Nothing in there either except for the one really fat Rockie that kept me from getting skunked on the day, that was it.
  4. I have tried Ononda Park before, they won't let you launch a kayak even if you walk it from the parking lot unless its "winter" season (in other words no staff on duty). I would really like to try that drop off, but it's quite a paddle from the normal launches. German Bros may let me go off their space without much hassle. Thanks for the info, I can get some coordinates from google maps for my GPS, and find a quick launch area nearby! Anybody have any good lure ideas and/or general locations (depth/cover) for different species in Canandaigua this time of year?
  5. Looove pickerel fishing in Canandaigua. Lots of fun, congrats, sounds like you snagged yourself a nice one!
  6. Caught a few nice sized one's saturday in Canandaigua. They were hitting my 4' diving Rapala Minnow hard. Water temp was 54, they were a bit scattered, looks like the spawn is well over.
  7. Hmmm... I am trying to picture where the pump house is. How far down West Lake is it? Are there any distinguishable features from the lake that I can use for marking, or better yet, anyone have the GPS cordinates, that would be helpful!
  8. I kayak fish myself, problem is it's quite a paddle from the north end if you want to get into some deep water (1 mile at least). There are three free and easy "in's" on the north side. You can launch from the pier, which is one of my favorites as it gets me to some nice bass spots o the NW side plus rockies on the break wall. You can launch from Kershaw park in front of the Maur House Cafe. There is also a "dock" in the lagoon area in the parking lot of Steamboat Landing, where you can fish the lagoon or paddle under the walking bridge back out to the lake (there's only room for kayak's to pass ) The South side has a quicker drop off so you can troll for lakers there with a shorter paddle. Woodville has a nice state wildlife area (You know those brown wood sign makers?) where the water is flush with the parking lot, very easy to launch. The great part about being a kayak angler is you can launch almost anywhere you can get to the water, and for free....just don't trespass or at least ask permission first!
  9. Hey folks, new to the forum. Looks like this is one of the only forum's for the Finger Lakes, so I thought I would jump in. I was looking to see if anyone else fishes Canandaigua Lake. I finally got my kayak rigged for fishing this season and have been doing pretty well in the shallows so far. Wednesday night it was overcast and light southerly winds. I was killing rock bass on the west side of the break wall by the city pier (no one from shore had a bite, but the rockies were hitting a 4' diving minnow on almost every cast by the breakwall). Saturday I finally got my fish finder set up and headed out. Didn't see much on the FF, and the The Rockies were gone. The fish seemed in short supply with a strong north wind. Hit a nice 4lb. largemouth back in the lagoon and a couple nice perch by the marina. What I am looking for is some ideas of places, in deeper water to look for Lake Trout. I have the fish finder, and pole holders which, when paddling, allows me to "troll". Obviously I can't paddle forever, so I am looking for some near shore deep holes that I may be able to troll between bass and panfish spots. I see the lake drops off quite quickly near the east side of the lake. Is that my best bet, or is there a better place? Also any good locations for pike/pickerel or bass? Thanks, looking forward to sharing ideas with all of you!
