  1. WOW .... I'm looking for a GPS unit and this looks really tempting. Hope to hear more on what guys think of it on here. From all I've read on this board Raymarine is well thought of along with Furuno. Last week there was thread that revealed a close out price on the Raymarine DS600X which got me twitching and from what I'm reading this GPS unit is a match with it. I just put a Lowrance color unit on my boat last year...... decisions decisions :o

  2. IA Bowhunter,

Thanks for the update on the helicopter. Yesterday wasn't the first we'd seen one out there and, of course, we were curious as to what was going on. At first there was concern that a rescue was going on. As you might imagine there isn't a whole lot of activity on the water this time of year so this gets your attention. I see they were dropping something by cable into the water and hovering for quite some time. Thought they might be associated to the barge but couldn't figure out what the attraction was to the severne area if that was the case.

    Dave

  3. Fred G. ,,, sorry I can't comment on the northern portion of the lake.

    TDuece,

    I can comment on Severne:

I live just minutes south of Lodi Point almost directly across from Severne. The cold weather of the past few days has caused a bit of an ice hump to form at the shore and quite a bit of floating ice but the sun seemed to take care of the floaters pretty good by the end of daylight today. A military helicopter was working the Severne section of the lake most of the afternoon and had a boat trailing it's activity. It appeared from here that the boat had launched from Severne as I could see vehicles in the parking area over there with binoc's.

    SplitShot,

The call tomorrow is for a high of 42 and a low of 34 with the temps higher on Friday so most of the shore ice will probably be gone ......

  4. Ok ....since the subject has been brought up ..... how about these michigan stingers:

    P1010581.jpg

All are silver with silver cups

    1) blue tape with half ladderback

    2) white glow over red ladderback

    3) bloody nose with orange ladderback

    4) reflective silver over red ladderback

Already spent time looking on the oak site and other sources provided via this site

  5. Thanks guys .... it's becoming apparent that the more organized you are the better off you are. I bought a special mate to store my spoons in. Their easy to see in that type of box. I will develop a label system as Shade suggests plus a log to track what works when. Guess I better do the same for the flies and the flashers and the spin doctors. All this and spring fishing is just around the bend :o. I guess I better get at it!!!

  6. With all the colors (and names) available with these spoons, from different manufacturers and all ........ how do you keep track of what they are called? I've been doing this only for the past year and the number of spoons I've collected in that short time is ... well, let's just say I have a few  I can imagine that if one is hot you remember it quite easy... but what about the rest? Anyone have a good method?

  7. OK ...... Been looking to see if a thread exists on this and just can't find it so I'm asking ...... I fish the fingers most of the time but would like to go to Ontario occasionally. I've got my 7 strand wire from Atomik (1000 ft).

If backer is used ....What is the preferred (Looks like a total of 900 ft. needed for Ontario ...wire/backing combined) ?

What is the right method of tying the backer to the wire? ..... tie the wire directly to the Dipsy? (knots .... swivel?)

I have read on here what happens from the dipsy to the lure/fly/whatever.

  8. Bill,

I don't blame you. You pay good money to have things shipped. I just received an order from Stamina last Friday. I placed the order 6/27. Same thing ...coated cable. I had purchased a sub-troll and wanted the better cable for the install prior to the Red Cross derby. Figured there was plenty of time for it to arrive. I never imagined it would take that long. After reading your comments I checked the ship detail on-line. Now I never asked for special handling but, USPS data shows the order never filled until 7/09. Now maybe they had no stock when I ordered back on 6/27 (nothing told me it was backordered though) yet doesn't it arrive two days after it left the point of shipment ..... and doesn't it show up in the afternoon of the day we had decided to install the cable that came with the unit that morning ....day before the derby! Thanks for sharing the owners attitude. I have no patience for people in a service type business that act as you described.
