  1. Sign up to drop the state another fee. This WILL evolve into a license, and then a stiff renewal. And as people then **** about their bi-annual $80 additional state general fund money grab, remember, it was a great thing and had zero impact on boater safety most likely.

  2. It won't start, as your have the plugs out.

     

    Here is what I'd do:

     

    1. Change Oil

    2. Pull prop, inspect for any line or issues, re-grease shaft and replace

    3. Add some stabilizer to tank

    4. Run motor for about 5 mins with stabilizer running into carb and motor

    5. Kill motor by cutting off gas, letting it run dry

    6. Pull plugs, inspect them

    7. A little fog (same as storage oil) down the plug holes, turn over motor a few time, 10 seconds worth

     

    8. Drink another beer

  3. West Marine is the Babies R Us of boating. Just looking to lure in the newbies and clueless to abuse them at the register. Around here the Marina prices are lower, and those are still 25% over online retail. 

     

    Hoping Cabelas opening helps, as Gander isn't bad for price but their selection is pretty thin.

    From what I know or hear of it, it is heavy. Other than that, the biggest questions are the same as with ANY other technique or material. It is all in how is was done. If it was used properly, no issue. If it was half ass-ed, problem. If old wood and material was properly removed and area prepped, good. If a hole was punched for a quick scrape and pour, bad. 

     

    I'd find out who did the work and research THEM more than I'd worry about how what was used.

  5. My list is as follows:

     

    -Replace and upgrade bilge pumps to 2000 GPH units fore and aft (Upgrade through hulls and hose accordingly)

     

    -New fuel lines

     

    -Add a few GLP rod holders

     

    -Add a small 600W microwave

     

    -Add a TR-1 Autopilot

     

    -Trade in the old Yammy 9.9 and drop a new Merc Prokicker on instead

     

     

    Now I just need to figure out who to have rig the new kicker and the TR-1. What are you guys doing off season to your rig?

  6. The Lakers eat gobies. Hence the size increase comes with easy to find, relatively static, bottom dwelling (not suspended) plentiful food. The Sturgeon population and size are supposedly on the slow increase too and there is evidence they love to eat quagga and zebra mussels as well as gobies themselves.

     

    Amazing how nature tends to balance itself. The native lake species seem to thrive and rebound eventually and the introduced species eventually struggle or even fail.

  7. This maybe a silly question, but what is average cost for slip,storage,maint. on a vessel of this size?

     

    John is about right on, as I have this very vessel basically. 

     

    -Slip $1600

    -Gas $600

    -Est Annual Maintenance $1200 (figuring age, best practice, etc..)

    -Storage $500

    -Cradle Rental $100

    -Winterizing $250 

    -Wrapping $400

     

    So all in that is about just over $4K, though some of above may not be of interest to you or you may choose another path or to self serve. Gas is obviously highly variable depending on how far you choose to run regularly. I only run 10 miles east or west before setting up, and also don't use the boat for any pleasure cruising. If I did, that number would rise fast. 

  8. Got here at 7pm. Have seen one steelie caught off end of west pier. Guys I spoke to said that is story of the day, sporadic steelies and no kings. Got two egg lines in and casting a glow Cleo when I feel like setting my beer down. East pier so crowded that it is shoulder to shoulder. Looks like another week maybe? I'll loiter until midnight or beer is gone, whichever comes first.
