  1. I can't weigh in on Garmin as I've never owned any of their marine stuff, I'd go Furuno or Humminbird myself.

That said, I have had some Lowrance stuff and will agree with the masses that their stuff is buggy and their support went to crap about 10 or 12 years ago. They are worst in industry IMHO in support.

I would consider a Garmin GPS next to a Furuno FF if I was running separate units. I'm not impressed with reviews I've seen or the picture on the Garmin FF units.

  2. Taxidermy sizes for me would be (Personal Record included):
    King: 40 (PR 35)
    Brown: 25 (PR 11, don't fish them)
    Steelhead: 25 (PR 19)
Laker: 30 (PR 21, don't fish them either on purpose)
    Coho: 25 (PR 19)
    Atlantic: 20 (PR 16)
    Pike: 30 (PR 18)

Musky: 40 (PR 14, accidental catch in 1000 Isles)

    Smallmouth: 8 (PR 5.5)

I don't fish for anything else in NY that I'd mount. In most cases, I ain't that close, lol.

  3. I remember the days of combat trolling. We were in a 14' Grunman with a 9.9 Johnson called "Lake Stalker". It was difficult to win a battle out there on that boat. We used to fish 3-5 footers on that boat if that's what it took. Ah the ESLO days. IMO Val LaBounty.

LOL, combat fishing in front of Russell Station and along the mud line of the Genny! That is my childhood on our Starcraft 18 and later Four Winns 225 (Ontario Flasher). Guys screaming, the occasional flare being fired...those were the days, hahahaha! Then we'd get some fog and everyone would be blowing horns in a pack 300 boats deep and you'd hear this booming blast and the Nautilus (a 36 Searay flybridge charter out of Braddocks that was the biggest thing out there then) would emerge 200 feet from a fog back coming right at you and chaos would ensue! Thanks for bringing that up, great memories!

  4. Do you have a picture of your finished product? It sounds like just what I'm looking for. What did you use for the board? Channel or rectangular tube?

Bass, the C Channel was more than strong enough. I'll take some pictures of it finished this weekend. My biggest thing, like you, is I wanted easily removable and also STOWABLE, which is why I went with the Aluminum as a Doug Fir board would weigh a ton more moving around and storing. I sprayed the ends with spray rubber just for a finished look and to make them softer if my clumsy butt swung it into the glass moving it. I easily bungee it to my hardtop if I want it out of the way.

Also the C Channel gives you easier access to the under size for washers and bolts. The tube either would make you tap/thread it, go though two layers with the drill, or run stuff down inside which is a pain.

  5. So this is the first year I have docked in Wilson and have a boat I REALLY shouldn't be towing and I'd like to pull it out and leave it in Wilson. I have a trailer for it and would get it wrapped but who has the best spot as far as price and security to leave a boat up there?

I REALLY don't want to haul it back to Grand Island but if I have to then I have to...
