  1. When we run wire for stripers it is not uncommon for the line to break at the rod tip. What happens is the line gets fatigued from constantly working on the rod tip. Especially if the angle comming off the tip is a sharp one. The wire moving back and forth in the same spot weakens it and then you get a hit and POP it breaks at the tip. This is on roller tips. It is more common when jigging with the tip raised to high causing a sharp angle on the line where it leaves the rod tip. It has happened trolling too but with less frequency. Not sure if it applies to your problem but I figured I would throw it out there for an FYI. Spike
  2. Haven't been up to Ontario since late 80's ( been saltwater fishing since then). I am back into freshwater fishing and looking to fish my favorite waters once again. I use to trailer the boat and launch each day. this year I am looking to find a place that I can keep the boat in the water. My buddy use to stay at a cabin on Sandy pond that had a dock but he doesn't remember the name of the place. I googled around and found nothing ( I may not of googled correctly, lol). Anyway I'm looking to stay anywhere between Sandy pond and Mexico bay area, trying not to have to go as far as Oswego. Does such a place exist for me to sleep with my boat on a dock outside? I have fished out of Sandy on a friends boat back in the early 90's (Ron Woods) they were at Green marine. They have moved on to FLA. so my connection in the area is gone. Any help you guys can get me on finding a place is appreciated. Thanks, Spike
  3. I noticed a bunch of spoons don't always come with a split ring. What method of attachment do you use to connect those to the leader? I think I used to just use a snap swivel but since fishing years ago I prefer my swivels up the line and tie directly to a split ring. Wondering what the masses were doing these days. thanks, Spike
  4. I saw a post refering to a thumping rod. What is that and how do you "thump"? Out here in NH we "yank" for lakers and you feel the leadcore thumping the bottom. Is that the same as what you guys are talking about? I haven't fished Ontario since the early 90"s, been saltwater fishing since then. Now the salt boat is sold and I'm reverting back to my roots, but it looks like I have some catching up to do. I hope to get out there soon for some fishing on the eastern side. Nothing like a King in the open lake. Looks like the avg size fish has gone down for the kings. Do you still run close to the ball? I heard the water cleared up a bit since I fished it and you fish differently than the ways of old. any insight on general rules of thumb for todays conditions would be appreciated. thanks, Spike
