  1. They could be 10"s I got them over 20yrs ago and my memory is failing. I'll put a scale on them and check. I thought they were 12's but as said could be wrong. Spike Put the scale on the weights last night. they are 10lbers or pretty close. Turns out I have two pancake weights from Cabela's. I thought both were 13 lbers. Turns out one is only 10lbs. So I'm sending that one back. I'll try out the 13 on my probe rigger and see how the blowback is (never had it out last trip). I may pick up the torpedo style while I'm out there. Anybody have a place to get them in Oswego or near by? Also I read somewhere in my research that you should never run different styles of weights. I saw some posts here that have run different ones and was wondering what was up with that statement. Is it just the chance of them tracking different and crossing that is an issue? Spike
  2. Long Haul is the boat name. I'll scan 5, 68 and 69. If you don't get me the first hail try again as some channels may be busy and lock in while scanning. Spike
  3. Forgot to add I am NOT in the LOC, lol. Figured that would make a difference. Spike
  4. I just found out it for a mupp rig set up. Using the stinger as an attractor above the target fly that is on a flasher/of some type?????? Spike
  5. Anyone fishing Oswego area Wed-Sun and want to share intel? I'll be out there and would be willing to share information gathered thru the trip to help everyone have a successfull trip. PM me or respond here. Only two more days till I crown myself with a King, I hope..... LOL. Thanks, Spike
  6. I just bought some stinger and fly combo's due to reading people were having success on them. How exactly are these run? Is the fly tied to the spoon to trail back 18-24"???????? Thanks for any help. Spike
  7. They could be 10"s I got them over 20yrs ago and my memory is failing. I'll put a scale on them and check. I thought they were 12's but as said could be wrong. Spike
  8. I'd try to find a replacement for yours on ebay or somewhere and save your money over the winter for a better unit. If you go cheap again now you might regret it later. JMHO. Spike
  9. What crapped out on it? Might be a cheap fix, if it isn't that old. Spike
  10. We got out but were not tuned in, lol. Been 20 or so years since I have been out there (switched to ocean fishing). We managed 5 or so steelies and 2 browns and a laker. Sux when the weather dictates where and how you fish. Struggled to keep a consistant speed going into the wind. Spike
  11. I have old fish shaped weights, 12lbs. What is everyone using these days? I have read about torpedo's, sharks and ridgebacks. Which ones are prefered at what depths? I have a couple pancake ones by cannon but they seemed to blow back a bit. I think the current caught them sideways as the rigger lines were going across the back of my boat. Spike
  12. Thanks I'll give that a try next trip out. What kind of weights are you guys running with the probe? i have some older fish shaped weights I have and I do get quite a bit of blow back. Maybe it's the depth or the probe not sure as I have only had it out a couple trips so far. One thing I did notice is my down speed always seems about .5 mph slower than my up speed. Does that sound normal? Thanks again, Spike
  13. yes coated cable, and thru the antt. I'll try the wet towel. I thought I saw somewhere something about the battery level. It read 7.5v. Maybe that was low for that depth. Spike
  14. Ran mine out in Ontario last weekend. First time going deep. Display cut out a 100'. How deep are you supposed to be able to use them? What could have caused it to cut out? Spike
  15. I can confirm we saw the fish when the guy showed Chuck at the cleaning station. He was going to Borax it. Spike We only got a brown out there but saw plenty of hooks.
  16. Yes and Yes. Strip back about three revolutions or so od coating. When wrapping the wire make sure it touched the screw that protrude up in the middle of the spool. That screw (socket screw) touches the shaft that the spool rides on. That is what makes the connection for you to stop at the waters surface. That is what I did to mine and it works fine. Spike
  17. Does Atommik have a store in Oswego? Would like to pick up some more stuff less shipping while I'm out there. Spike
  18. So you would just run the spin doctors alone or on the wire, is that how I understand it? Will be my first time using spin doc's, always used dodgers in the past. Thanks, Spike
  19. Heading to Oswego to fish Ontario but the winds don't look to favorable. What lake near there would you reccomend as an alternative, would troll for salmon or fish bass or walleye. Not much for pan fish. Any recommendations? Hopefully within an hour of Oswego. Thanks, Spike
  20. Looking at Friday thru Sunday I see 10-20kt from the W/NW for Friday with 1-2' wave prediction. Does that sound right? On the coast if we see 10-20 kt winds it kicks it up more than that. Heading out for Friday and getting bummed about the wind predictions. i don't mind rain but the wind might keep us off. What is everyones take on the weather for the weekend? Spike
  21. Had a foodsaver and it was great. We did have problems with liquid screwing up the vacuum pump where you had to let it dry out before it would work again. got tired of that and bought a rival meal saver. this works the nuts. The design is such that even if water enters the vacuum channel it is uneffected because the vacuum tube is set higher than the bottom of the channel. Never have a liquid problem anymore. Uses the same bags as foodsaver.....nice. Spike
  22. Anyone runn Dave Davis spinners off DR balls? What about dodgers? We do around our way and it produces big time. Just wondering if it is worth the shot out on Ontario? Thanks, Spike
  23. Heading out to Ontario this Friday. This is my game plan, tell me if I'm crazy and suggest a better on, lol. First find fish. Start looking in 80-120' of water for bait and fish. If nada head further out. Once bait and fish are located drop temp gage to check for temp range. Look for 48 if I can find it. Put deepest lure at that temp and work up. First lure out will be a white spin doc with white fly. Cheat a NK28 silver green glow spoon above that. Second line out a wire set up with purple dipsey dragging a bloody death spin doc and matching fly, let back oh say 180 to start?? third lure will be second wire set up with a mountain dew spin doc with green crinkle fly. Let back 220 or so????? Fourth rod out a savant spoon alwive pattern (not sure which one first) with a orange and black NK28 cheated above it. That was my plan and changing if things don't fire. Below are pics of what I have available so if you see a better combo or have another suggestion for location depth etc, I'm all ears. Thanks, Spike Took out the pics, removed them from the site by accident, no need to put them back up as I got my answers. Thanks!
  24. That is what I figured. I put a post in a vise and put the swivel over it. I then took a wrap (like leadering a billfish) on the wire and pulled. It was pretty slippery even with leather gloves on. The wire is a lot thinner than I'm use to working with (malin solid shark leader wire). It looks pretty good and as the other post say's the first 20lber should tighten it right up. Now all I need to do is great that fish to bite. We are heading out the 8th and fishing out of Oswego. If anyone is in the area and would like to help a guy out I'll monitor 68. I guess that is the station most are on. The next trip after that will be the 20-24th. hoping things heat up real good by then. We are staying at K&G Lodge. First time there. Looks nice on the internet so we'll see. The prices at the Eccono lodge and best western were sky high in comparison to most local lodging. I think I have most everything I need. Black black green gree white white purple purple, yup should have them all covered. Now to put them to some good use. See you in another week! Spike Did I tell you we don't even care if we just catch lake trout, lol. We will fish for anything!.
  25. Bill I tried the knot on my two new set ups. I have a question: Do you use pliers to pull on both the tag and main line for tightening up the overhand? The half hitch tightens fine but I don't want to damage the main line with pliers. Is there a trick? Thanks, Spike
