  1. Yeah I saw that. We were fishing our lines to shallow. Where do you get the cut bait? I have a few of the heads but didn't see the bait last year. Better question is where do you find a tackle shop open early? Fat Nancy's said 10am to 4pm. Screwy Louie's was gone and Larry's never seems to be open this time of year. Are there any others around. I know of one in the marina, Forget the name, but that guy isn't open half the time either. ??? Long ride to Jon's in Mexico just for bait. Spike
  2. Yeah it was nice to actually get a full day in. Tough for us as we don't know all the local info such as where to look after a particular blow or what to even expect after a particular blow or just wind change. So that wasn't in our favor as things did change. Also found out after we fished Wed. that even though temps were messed up inside there was a chance to get a stray fish in close had we tried. We fished lakers instead assuming there wouldn't be fish in there. Who knew, lol. We didn't mark any so I feel better about that, lol. It was tough going. Makes you appreciate the calmer days. Every muscle in my body ached this morning from being tossed around all day yesterday. Not as comfortable as your ride, lol. Hopefully next week is better. Was hoping to leave the boat out there and travel light two ways but some small issues popped up that needed attention before the next trip, so I took it home with me. If you get down there before Saturday give me a shout. We are fishing Tuesday thru Friday heading home Saturday next week. Spike
  3. We hit Cayuga this last trip when we were blown off. Definitely worth the drive. Spike

Still a little rough until late afternoon. Temp was warm out to 300. Then we found 56 down 125. Worked that depth and landed some nice steel. 400 on the wire, 42 spiny and fly. Big steel took a Green dot spiny with hammer fly. Caught a ton of small kings 2-5 lbs, lost count. Also landed a 28 lb king on a NBK down 135 and a 16 lb king on the same ff the steel took, out 330. That was it. We fished 5 am to 6 pm. Be back at it next Tuesday. Spike [ Post made via iPhone ]
  5. Thanks to all we had a great day. Fished Cayuga all day today. Great lake. Lost count on numbers But we got a bunch of smaller salmon, a bunch of lakers w two best around 8lbs. Largest salmon at 6 lbs, one small brown. Not bad for a first time on the lake. Took a while to figure it out as fish were shallower than I would have expected. Started 30 down with free sliders. Took a good hit on a free slider but lost the fish. He felt good. Jake45's in NBK was hot. We also took hits on black silver stinger, blue silver stinger as well as Jake orange tiger and other various colors. The NBK was the hot one. Most fish on the edge early 100 to 130 down 30 up and down a few feet. Later more fish over 150 to 300 down 45. The ten color cores worked great once we ran all colors out. No hits on them shallower. Was nice as they stayed weed free. Thanks again. Spike [ Post made via iPhone ]

Temp was 44 down 75. Didn't sound like anyone was doing to good We had 6 hits boating 1 bow, 2 stealhead and small king Saw another boat with a few better kings and a bunch of browns. Man did it rain today. Where would we find browns if we couldn't get out far enough For kings again? Suppose to blow to Friday.… Spike [ Post made via iPhone ]
  7. 18 Lund… that doesn't sound good. Spike [ Post made via iPhone ]
  8. Well looks like some wind predicted for Ontario wed - thurs. Would that wind also be bad for Cayuga? I think it was w nw up to 20 it's… Thanks Spike [ Post made via iPhone ]
  9. I bought this unit three yrs ago before the new intelli probe came out and only use it when I go to Ontario (two weeks a yr). This yr I hitched it up and the depth read double what actual is. I remember last yr it did this too but straightened out, not sure why, new battery or what. Anyway my trip is next week so instead of risking this unit not working right I bought a new unit. The speed and the temp worked fine just the depth was off. Didn't get to play with it much as we got blown off a half hour after setting up. So if you buy this know that the down speed and temp work along with the light intensity meter but the depth was off. I'd like $100 for the setup (figuring the display is worth that and if you need to get a probe it will still be a great buy). Includes probe, display, coated wire off rigger and wire harness's. Add shipping costs if I need to ship it. I will be in Oswego next week and can meet anyone there at some point if your interested. I did call Cannon last week and the service guy didn't recall anything like that happening with any probes before. Said it could be sent in and if found defective they would sell a new probe at a reduced price. Let me know if your interested. Spike
  10. Don't count on it! Lol. There has been so much misinformation about this bill going here, being there etc.... I mean come on already! Libous can't even tell us when the bill will be on the governor's desk! What kind of nonsense is that! I'll remember this when it's time for me to vote. He's from my district! I could dream couldn't I, lol. Looks like I'll be fishing a 4 rod spread. Be out Tuesday thru Sat. and again the following week. Hope to let everyone know how I do in real time as I got myself one of those smart phones, lol. Not sure I'm smart enough to use it though. Spike
  11. Nope it didn't disappear. it took a hit but the hook straightened out. that was that first rough morning we went out. Spike
  12. New cable this yr, longer to get down to the bigun's. I chew up the coated cable stacking locally but trimming back the 10-15 feet usually fixes it for the next yr. I know how the cable relates to a spool diameter vs revolutions (like line on a reel) but the counter supplied doesn't vary in the 200' of cable so I figure adding another 100' isn't going to throw it off significantly. It really is just a gage considering all other variables. Worst case with extra line I'm a little deeper than the counter. I ended up buying a new S&T, because I was worried if one part had failed the others may as well and ruin my trip. I went with Cannon again because it is nice knowing the depth and since the water I typically target when using this device is deeper I went this route. that and Billy V's reports of no issues in two seasons. I have new tools that will eliminate me from hitting bottom with the DR's again. They are called copper lines. When I want to scratch I will scratch with them. If I mess up a line I can always sell it on shore to a crack head for a few bucks (joke). Spike
  13. Our annual trip to Oswego is coming up and we thought about hitting up Cayuga for a day. My question is should we bring lighter gear than is used on Ontario or is it pretty much the same? We have 30lb test to combat fleas and spin doctors and flies with a bunch of spoons as well. Back home our line and rods are much lighter and the spoons much smaller as well when fishing for lakers and LL's. Should we be downsizing from the lake O gear when hitting Cayuga? Also wondering if anyone ever yanked for lakers there? We will troll .8mph and pay out lead or copper line until we feel our lure twicthing bottom and yank until we hook up, usually pretty quickly. Wondering if this would work there or are fish typically suspended over deeper water? Basically looking for some advice on targeting the fish there, no specific spot just techniques and lure/gear sizes so we are not wasting our time. I read dipsy's are pretty popular, do people use copper there as well? Thanks for any info you can provide, Spike
  14. One more week for them to get this signed and make the best vacation ever for me. I had hoped this would have been signed long ago and I wouldn't even be thinking about it right now. Still hoping to run three rods this yr. One week to go.................... Spike
  15. Last yr I was letting out 140 to get down 125 on the rigger so I know about that. I usually fish the marks if there are any. From the responses I'm getting I guess I should be OK without knowing the actual depth of the rigger and just use the counter applying the difference for blow back. It's kind of what I thought but it's always good to get confirmation. Spike
  16. So I leave for Ontario in a little over a week. I added new 300' coated cable to my probe rigger last weekend and tried it out today to make sure it is functioning OK. I have the previous version Cannon speed and temp (not intelli troll). The only time I use it is when I got to Lake O twice a yr so it doesn't have much time on it. Last yr when on Lake O the depth would sometimes read double what the actual depth was and I forgot what we did but it did straighten out. Maybe we just kept turning it on and off until it read right? Like I say forgot how we got it to work ok. Well today I tested it on local waters and same deal, double depth reading, with a little bit off from the exact double from time to time. Speed works fine and temp works fine. Should I be panicking and looking to get either another unit or get this fixed before my trip? Like I say we go twice a yr so I do not want to be "blind" so to speak. Then reading about some of the other units I notice not all give depth at the ball so I'm thinking maybe I can get by with just the speed and temp??? Help and advice appreciated. Spike
  17. I started with a couple of heartland med action dipsy rods when I started out. This yr I added a 10' eagle claw to the mix and the action seems very soft. I'm wondering if I run it on the same side as a med action rod the longer rod will bend close to the stiffer inside shorter rod? Also checked out the Ugly Stick 10' rod and that was med-heavy action. Seemed almost too heavy? Wondering what everyone else is using and what the rating is for action on the rods. Spike
  18. What can the governor do if it isn't on his desk yet????? Maybe get him to sign it faster when he does get it?????? Amazing how long it takes to get the simplest things done. Spike
  19. I read about a trick I haven't yet tried and I'm not sure Where I read it. What they do is run a barbless hook in the fish and send him down the rigger to cooler water. At that point when the fish gets back to normal he shakes free of the barbless hook. Makes sense to get them back down to the cooler water.Takes a little extra effort but the results should be better. Spike
  20. Soon means what? Today? This week? This month? This year?????? Imagine operating like that and still getting paid. Everything I do at work has a schedule, it may change but at least if someone asks I can give them a date ond not just say soon. Spike I should have been a politician.........................
  21. Well this worked out the last couple yrs so I'll try it again. I have two trips planned for August. First one is the 9th to the12th. Second is the 17th to the 20th. If anyone is fishing out of Oswego or near by and wants to share intel PM me. Like I said this worked out the last couple yrs so I figured I'd offer it up again. Not so much for the fish are here come here quick (because the boats were out of different ports and the travel time was long, but for next day info it was useful). For what they were hitting and at what depth and colors it was immediately useful. Yeah I know fishing diff areas diff lures may work but in a couple cases it help the guy I relayed the info to so it might help. Also met/talked to some new people which is always a pleasure. There was guy with a boat named Enterprise, from NJ, out there last year and we were able to share and target a pile of fish in a small area. So Enterprise if your going to be out there or if your even on this forum let me know. He took some flack on the radio due to some of the questions he was asking but in general he was a good guy. One thing I remember is when he would talk people would say "beam me up scotty". Which was pretty funny and I don't think he took it to heart. Anyway if your interested pm me. Spike
  22. Every day I check three, four times for some good news on this. Nothing. Can we get some Gay fishermen to go see what is taking so long? I have nothing against Gay people, to each their own, but that other bill got signed off quickly. Maybe we can get this one moving with a little flair promoting it? It's within a month for my trip and with only two of us going I'm hoping I get to run the extra gear I just bought this yr not next. Hoping for some good news SOON! Spike
  23. I missed the location entirely......I tried...... Spike
