Yes I believe it was bumped by coyotes the dog was bristled up and could smell them. It back tracked on itself too. Also when he found the deer he was air checking and growling.. they were close by.
The lack of blood for the dog is relevant but he tracks on more than just blood. The one huge advantage of the dog is to extend the blood trail. I like to have one person stay on the blood and we move that person up each time we confirm blood but still have them actively looking. Thus we can always go back to last blood if the dog is distracted by a live deer. Also i use the on-x app to aid with this if i only have one person.
Good job on your track BTW

Good info and thanks!

That is a long ways for that shot!
Any idea if it was bumped before you started tracking?
I shot a doe last week and I almost reached out to you. High entry, no exit, only a few drops of blood. I left her overnight and luckily I found her within 100 yards the next day.
I assume the lack of blood is irrelevant for a dog?

If you fish for Yellow Perch in NY this might interest you. Please fill it out and pass it along.

I have caught one as well a few years ago shore fishing in the fall. I should have tossed it back, there was no meat in the fillets at all and it was discolored.

Think about how many times you have watched a deer drink?
Now on the opposite end of the spectrum, water is very useful for cutting down on pressure and finding remote bedding in swamps or on islands in the swamps.

Anyone know if Dicks Sporting Goods has Sitka gear? I'm going to order bibs and a jacket but really want to try them on before ordering.
Runnings does. Not a huge selection but I think they normally have the Stratus and sometimes the Fanatic.
I went with the Stratus pants and jacket a couple years ago. I like the Stratus better for layering.

Nice walleye!
I have learned so much from this site. How to jig Lakers with much more success.
Also how to catch those elusive SLR eyes without donating a ton of tackle thanks to Kevin sharing.

Nice job.
Friday morning they were shooting like crazy up there. 15+ shots per volley.

Just to let people know last night I got skunked on walleyes. First time since July 2 and 4th time this year.
It happens!

I have been on the river 4 times this year and been skunked on eyes 2 out of 4 times. I never seem to get skunked on bass though!
I love the challenge.
One more shot this weekend until next season.

That is about the same speeds I run. .5ish into the current and 1.8ish down stream. I don’t change the throttle going into the current or with the current. I seem to get an even number of fish both ways.
And you definitely want to heed Kevin’s advise on knowing where you are fishing. I have a set of trails on my lowrance that I use.
If you plan on fishing riggers or dipseys I would lay down some trails first if possible. Figure out where all of the high points are.

Great job as always.
I tried early this morning and got 2 keepers, 1 about 17” (released), and dropped one at the back of the boat. They seemed to shut off well before sunrise where I was.
How long of a leader do you run behind your bottom bouncer? I am running 6’ - 7’ and it is really fun trying to net them in the dark!!!

Looks like a very consistent bite.
I’m hoping to get after them next month.

I did well Tuesday evening jigging bucktails and casting sticks in the weeds.
It’s more fun to me than dragging worms.

Below is a link to a DEC survey asking for input on changing the daily bag limit from 3 walleyes at 15" to 5 walleyes at 15" on Oneida Lake.
It is a very short survey. Please take the time to complete it. It will be available until Wednesday July 8th.https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/5672775/Oneida-Lake-walleye-regulation

Nice eye.
The jig bite is still going strong. Not quite as good as last month.

Looks like a big cold front coming in a week. That might give them a kick in the pants.
