    Unicorn Monday in 20-30 mph SW winds day 3 at the Bar fishing the LOC! We had a plan before we left Vermont to bring the Offshore Inline boards and the light gear we use on Landlocks back on Champlain. After 1.5 days the winds from the SW blew hard and our plan was to start at the mouth and troll east 4-6 miles in 25-35 fow to Wilson with the waves. We hit 4 species in the 4 hours till 11:00 am..LT/Atlantic/Brown/King! This Unicorn was very special taping out at 30.5" and a little over 10 lbs. We released it after reviving in the live well for 20 minutes.

    What a way to start a new year! Sun shining / calm water greeted us at the ramp at 8:15 am. Whenever I get on this boat something special happens and today was no different. 8 salmon made it to the net after 6 hours when we quit at 2:20 pm. Rigger parked at 30 feet did the damage today on a custom made Blue Moon Tube fly behind a Flasher. Perch Speedy was also the hot item! 18"/19"/21"/16"/17"/17"/17"/18" were sampled for the DNA clip study to start off 2026! No one else on the water today on a picture perfect day!

    We never got out today as it was too rough as the wind never really slowed down until 5 pm tonight. We were checking the water out at the ramp at 2:00 pm at the Mexico ramp and had a chance to talk to the DEC fish creel census folks how the day went for the guys that got out with the big boats. They said 1-2 salmon with most of them coho. As our Lake O season is now over looking back we fished 17 out of 20 days this year. Bar / Oak / Mexico areas. Our king catch was 70% less than the last 3 seasons. We have been spoiled by double digit catches nearly every day out of these 3 areas we fish the last 3 years. Mostly a blank sonar screen this year. Steelhead at the Oak was a bonus! Homeward bound tomorrow early! Back to the Bar in 2026 for the Loc derby! R

    We saw a big group of boats over that way. It's been tough from the plant to the river. Good catch!

    Double sucks..... Most boats coming in to the cleaning stations are reporting 1 salmon brought in per boat. We have landed 11 matures so far 5 of the last 7 days beginning on Labor Day afternoon. We finish up today going out later after yesterdays violent west winds and the overnight rollers settle down later this am. We did have two outings with 5 and 6 salmon and the other three days a release and a snap that opened Saturday on a screamer. Sonar has been blank mostly and off the power plant there is bait but no marks on Saturday. Lot of boats but no nets waving. Tough.

    As we try to get out our last day today of our 8 day trip out of Little Salmon River I reflect it wasn't the best of trips with 11 salmon landed going into today with 5 days on the water out of 7 days here but getting out as you know is half the battle with consistent west winds and rough conditions this year. I lost my Go Pro in the drink the first few days of the trip but here is my backup camera for one of the two more successful days we had.
