  4. Hey thanks all for the input. Your answers are pretty much what I expected which is good, because that means I am not crazy....Going to get back at them here soon only been out once this year so far. Maybe this next Friday after work if the weather is good. Later TD
  5. Good thing I got a killer deal on ebay for my speed wheel $14 shippped to my door new in the box, glad I did not pay full price for it.
  6. Hey one of the new additions I added to my vessel this year was a speed wheel on my Lowrance. Years past I trolled soley off gps speed, And always caught fish. First time out this year noticed speed wheel and gps to be .5 to .8 mph out from each other. Gps would show faster speeds. Like 2.5 with gps was 1.8 to 2.0 on speed wheel. I realize that 1.8 to 3 mph is in fish catching range with 2.5 being prime. But wondered what you guys see with yours and what you guys run by. Someday I will upgrade to a down speed/temp unit but new 4 stroke kicker this year got the funds allocated to it. A man can never have to much "stuff" in this sport haha. Any thoughts? TD
  7. A guy I work with gave me some "Cross Cut" planer boards. Any one ever used or heard of them? They are plastic and appear to be able to be run on either side. He also gave me 5lb rigger weights thay attach to the bottoms so they run deeper in the water? Any one got any experience with these? TD
  8. Oh I fish the flasher/flys because they are so productive for Lakers. I usually run dreamweaver strong flies, howie flys, or G-flys. Really seems to me color is more important than brand but some other here may say different...Any one here swear a certain fly brand out fishes others?? TD
  9. Launched at around 6:30, tons of perch guys out. Went south 1-2 miles fished between the points. 100-140 fow 10 for 15 all Lakers. 8 on dipsy's 2 riggers. All on flasher fly green dolphine, Mt. Dew, habanero, you know the deal GREEN stuff. Out 220-245 down 75, and 86. 4 were 3-4 lbs. one was 7lbs the rest 4-5 lbs. lots of eels marks Gonna eat a couple for dinner tonight. not the eels.... pulled up at 11:30 and then got caught in the rain loading and the rest of the way home. Felt good to try my new toys. The new fourstroke 8hp Merc. ran beutifull I think I am going to like it. Can't wait to go again and try some LL and Brown setups. 22-250
  10. Last year myself and Snyder learned a ton from this board, And Ray K. lent alot of great info as well. Probably felt the need to since Snyder and I cornered him in Snyders basement with a bogus furnace service call We both run Power pro braid, with as long as leader as you can have and still net a fish in your boat, remember you will only be able to reel up to the dipsy and the rest will be trailing...So thats what mine are run at. Use alot of Spin Doctors with flys set 18-22" behind Docters. Snyder and Myself both use to run Seth's good day 8-10 fish. Dipsy's and downriggers now 20-25 fish pretty consistantly If we fish sun up into late afternoon. hope this helps 22-250
  11. Well thats good to know...I guess I am not worried about my craft or any thing like that just wondered. This time of year I think it's smart for any boater to keep there speeds way down, never know when you might hit a floating piece of ice, log, dock, ect...I figure might as well troll to where you really want to go this time of year and not risk ripping the transom off your boat at 40 mph. Hey can't catch them at 40mph but sure can at 2.5 mph. Didn't Ray K hit something in the spring and need a lower unit once?? TD
  12. Thanks for the info Hooked...Hope the rain holds out Saturday I am going first thing in the Morning. If not guess thats whats bimini tops and rain suits are for...Now just hope the fish are biting actually first time out I could care less if the fish bite Just can't wait to shake the dust off the equipment TD
  13. Any one know if any emergency authorities monitor ship to shore freqs on the finger lakes?? Just wondered, if the few of us that get out on these lakes early season would have a chance if some thing really bad happened to one of our boats, and needed rescuing. Hope to god it never happens but would like to know??
