  1. Too much of anything is bad. Everything in moderation. Every boat is different. Different things will work for different people. Some lessons are learned the hard way too. We all go through the learning curve. It depends who is on your boat too. I have one buddy that I never have to watch or help. Some people come on my boat and it becomes so much work, but the payoff is when they catch fish or get that line screamer on that rips 400' of line.

All good answers, for me i try to play fish out as far behind as possible,in doing so it buys you the needed time to either pull one or two rods or just move to another holder. by that time you pretty much know what your dealing with and what your next move will be,Most of the time i prefer to let rods in!

  2. No autopilot yet. Have to rely on my son and grandad to keep her straight. I booked a trip to Chicago for my wife and I to celebrate her 30th birthday. Bears game @soldier field, sight seeing, and great food/ beer. That'll soak up a few thousand right there.

Ya i hear that, i use the auto bunge when out alone, other then that one of my buddies with a hangover! Keep clubbin the kings before the combat fishing starts, good luck.  can;t beat da Bears

  3. When it was in winter storage I had it up for sale hoping to get a 19-20 aluminum to replace it. As soon as I took her out I realized I can't sell. I have her set up almost perfectly now and will never get as much boat for the money. Thanks for the compliment

Yup I cant say that I blame you, good decision, I have a 20 fter thats real easy to handle at the dock and trails super easy but still would like to step up a notch. let me know if you ever change your mind, or want to trade! did you put a new auto=pilot on her?

  4. For me a 30 lb silver king would be a mounter. I've caught many over 30 and 1 over 40 in 18 mile creek but since I've been back at the lake fishing the Tyee has escaped me.

    Browns 15 lbs

    Steelhead 14 lbs

    Laker 24 lbs

    Coho 12 lbs

Atlantic any as they are a beautiful fish.

Hey King, at the begining of the year i saw you were thinking of selling your rig, are still going That direction? that is one sweet ride!

  5. Just looking for feedback on what the consensus may be on what a trophy fish starts at for each species.  Kings, Coho, Browns, Steelhead, Atlantics, and Lakers.

I caught a fish this weekend that would have placed in the LOC top 10 for certain (in it's class, had I actually entered).  It was considerably larger than any other I had caught before.  Given that, I rushed it to the taxidermist but have been somewhat mixed about that decision since.  This site can make it difficult to judge what a true trophy is.  Obviously it's often the largest fish that are reported.

    Any and all opinions welcome.

For me a trophy fish may not be how big, or the species, but more about the experience, Such as the people your with, or the tale of the story.

  6. Thanks for the reply but the Capt. of the boat I've chartered will be picking the fishing spots. I was looking more for whats being caught, how big & how many. I'm from Falls, PA. About 30-45 min. North of Philly. I'm actually from Texas - just been living up here for over 30 years.

No kidding, Falls is 10 minutes from me, the charter captains our darn good in general. he will put you on fish for sure. As for the species prob. kings will be be on top of the list, but if there not willing to play theres always lakers, browns, steelies etc. on a 6 hour trip you may get hit once an hour or 1 a minute ya never know. Size wise may be from 3lbs to 40 lb thats what makes the big o so addictive!    Lot's of luck 2 ya- you will have a blast!

  7. Vin, lots of info on this site. Do you have riggers, dipseys, etc?

Vinnie you may be doing some combat fishing with J-plugs, Fish may be pretty close in 2 weeks. If I were you I would check back in 13 days. Good luck!

  8. Hi all,

I'm from PA and am coming up to Lake Ontario on the 7th of Sept to fish for the first time. ( first time ever fishing for salmon) We'll be fishing out of Mexico and I'm looking for fishing reports. Not knowing the area, its hard to try and see what fishing reports are helpful. Any help for the Mexico area ( will be going out of Mike's Marina ) would really be appreciated..

    Randy

Try strait out off river (were you launched) start looking for hooks around 80 f.o.w. Keep trolling north till you start hitting them.- GOOD LUCK  What part of PA ya from?

  9. I run 20 lbs flouro as leader on my 50 lbs mono main line

    Sent from my thinking chair...

This year 50lb flouro. on meat rigs for me, going to 30lb mono on reel. I prefer 30 lbs flouro leader on meat but after one break off I switched to 50, problem solved.(Kings are tough this year)

  10. Thanks. Our first fish that morning was 29lb 4oz on the scales. Made the mistake and ran in and was at woodys at 730 to weigh and didn't know scales didn't open till 9. OOOOPS! Went back out and caught two and dropped two more and called it a morning for the second time at 10:30 to weigh. Fish weighed the same at both times on our scales so I don't think we lost any weight. Temp seemed to be moving cause of the winds that day but it was upper 50's/low 60's down around 90 that day. Of course that was on our riggers and at 2.5 mph or so. Your equipment may vary.

Yup i got ya,still great info and super fish-Tinfin

  11. Lake is glass near shore with some ripples out farther. Wind is out of the west about 5 mph. Should be a good morning. Waves will probably pick up around 9:00 but probably wont get much more than 2-4. Good luck, see you on the water. Again for referance, I am jusy east of Braddock bay.

MWOLF451, Dang nice of you to post!  Sure helps people that have to drive, keep them coming!

  12. Do not be intimidated.Be respectful  but  You have as much right to the lake as anyone. I might have to make a point of being his shadow for a while. But thats just who I am.

I have played chicken with a few captains in my day while combat fishing. Cut off a dipsey once. All part of the fun of fishin in the pack.

Sometimes a quick visit to the dock can resolve issues like that, its to bad stuff like that happens!
