  1. There seems to be less and less lamphrey as time goes on...=6-8 years ago it seems like every LL had one attached or at least a mark....Worst place I ever saw them is Lake Chanplain....They are HUGE and on most fish you catch :(

  2. I forget the name....Half way between Trumansburg and Interlaken on 96 ....right side going north....He did the stand up on my Trophy and my neighbor's mooring cover..Nice shop.......very reasonable....I'll be at camp on April 29 and get his number and post it or Pm you 8)

  3. I was born and raised in upstate New York ( Oneonta..Cooperstown area ) and after graduation worked from 1957 until March of 1976 and remember when New York was an exciting vibrant place to live 8) because anyone who wanted to work could find a GOOD PAYING job.. 8) .and life was good..and we fished when and where we wanted because EVERY ONE had jobs and money. In 1976 after being laid off (because my company. ;( ..like many others left NY because of politics and high taxes) and not being able to find a job in my line of work that paid decent  ..........I left and came to Texas....Two days after I arrived here in May..1976...I went to work for a wonderful company making top wages and never was laid off or taxed to death. ..I retired in 2002 and live VERY comfortably..Had I stayed in New York...Jobs like I enjoyed here in Texas do not exist any more in New York because of politics.. .High taxes and an unfriendly climate for business..Mower said it best...I LOVE upstate NY and spend 5 1/2 months ( and a lot of money in the local economy ) close to Cayuga Lake and care big time about the environment and protecting the quality of fishing and life quality..I've said it a thousand times that if it wasn't for the stinking OVER TAXING and UNFRIENLY ANTI business climate in New York that I would sell out and move there permanently.....There are TONS of rules and regulations for any business that exists any where in America to make sure said business is environmentally safe...Agriculture........wineries and tourism are not enough to sustain the economy of upstate New York...You NEED REAL companies that pay taxes and GOOD wages and bennies....New York Is a welfare state because of politics and the un friendly business climate....This gas company would be a start on reversing that negative trend..

  4. I trailer up to Owasco two or three times a year and when I got old ;( ...that City launch at the north end stopped charging me to launch 8) ..I have mixed results when fishing this lake...One trip last year in late July found tons of jet skis and party barges both sides of the chute coming out into the lake...It was VERY hot that day and water temps were high....We ( my son and I ) caught several nice lakers and we usually catch and release...but finally quit because several of them just plain would not swim...Surface temp was 82...Earlier fishin.....before July is when I have the best luck.......I did catch my first Walleye ( thought it had to be a rainbow) in Owasco last spring on the cheater ( hand painted Gold and green stinger ) fishing 90 FOW about 4 miles down the west side.. That was right before dark ....I usually avoid Owasco in the middle of summer because of boat traffic and lack of parking at the Auburn city park

  5. King...I spend 5 1/2 months every year at my place near Cayuga and also feel like I add to the state and local economy by purchasing a $70.00 license every year.( that is just a start ).spending a hell of a lot more there than I do here at home for the other 6 1/2 months..Guess what..almost every dollar I spend in New York has to do with fishing and keeping that old Trophy floating for one more year..The boat was purchased in New York ( taxes paid ).trailer registration every year ,,,boat reg.. every three years..and a LOT of gas every year..( a local boat mechanic welcomes the many dollars I spend on the old boat )...When we ( my son and I ) fish ...we are out there because of the shear love of this type of fishing... The ONLY fish we keep are ones that are injured..If they are small LLs ..we move out to deeper water or to another ( favorite honey hole ) spot.............The biggest lake trout I ever caught was in front of the Scout camp north of T-Point ( pictures ) and we both said " wow...next year he will be bigger " and watched him head for the bottom..If you want to see greed from pro guide charter boats ...take a ride to Lake George and try catch even ONE quality fish....Aint gonna happen ..even though that lake is one of the cleanest I've ever fished...Years ago it was a hell of a fishery but not anymore..BECAUSE EVERY FISH GOES IN THE BOX....:no::no: ...This thread was started because of a concern of these fish ( that don't reproduce) not being allowed to mature...Most of us share that concern ( motive as you put it )and do our very best to let them grow :yes:8)

  6. Looks like several of you are catching some nice Lakers...Good job...Just wondering if all the ice is gone from Cayuga...Also how high ( or low ) is it?...I watch the weather up there all winter and you folks have been hammered by snow and frigid temps..My camp opens April 29...so I will leave here on the twentieth....That will get me to my son's place in Otego on April 22;;;;a week to get the boat ship shape and a quick shakedown to Cooperstown before heading to Cayuga for the summer...I've got MAJOR cabin fever and all those winter fishing reports and pictures ( although wonderful ) haven't helped....just made it worse...It's been in 70s and 80s here for about five weeks and I'm ready to head north and take care of my addiction 8)

  7. My son and I and others have talked about that bridge for years.....Before we got the Trophy hardtop....we could launch the old 22 footer there.....and one of our friends bent a good net into an L by forgetting to lay it down..on the way in...What we came up with is that the state DID NOT want anything except pleasure craft using that launch...Early season we launch at Deans or Treman ...but as things get warmer the fish are deeper and we always seem to hammer right to the TPark point....What a waste of gas and wear and tear on the Trophy....That bridge reminds me of the nightmare launch and parking at Otsego Lake in Cooperstown...Locals are up front about it.....They don't want fishing boats on " Their Lake " even though our license money pays for stocking.. :(:(:no:

  8. 8) We had two of them on our old 22 footer and they worked just fine...I am VERY much in agreement with Big Dave and Longline about removing the ball or the rigger if it has tab base when trailering...Cannon releases are junk and a waste of money...I tried Walker releases first time last season and had good luck....SUPRISE...They all lasted a full season...unlike Cannon..cheaper too.
  9. We have four Walker electrics on our boat and all have plain cable...The two side mounts also have bases that allow the booms to stand straight in the air....We just screw on a couple more feet ( 12inch sections ) on the booms and use them on planer boards...We use the orange string for this and no problem except what Rod mentioned about the guide eyes....They tend to wear out this string after a season........but never had problem with uncoated cable....As long as you don't "kink" it...will last a long time Make sure the pulleys are straight down on your walkers ....this will keep that cable from running against it...Our old 22 footer had Cannons and plain cable worked just fine...Good Luck 8)

  10. My neighbor ..Zeke has a Crestliner that is a fine looking boat....He goes under the walk bridge at T-Park on Cayuga and I've seen him and Cyn fishing tournaments with whitecaps....Check out the " Crestliner "..Also another neighbor has a 19 ft. Lund and he thinks nothing of going to Ontario for a week....Always brings back nice Kings......so He's out there on the big pond 8)

  11. Sean...I was born and raised in upstate New York near Cooperstown...When I was a kid Otsego Lake produced the " Otsego Bass " which were VERY good eating...Because of those who dropped the wire bins of Quaker Oats to lure the fish under the boat.....These people sat there and snatch hooked Otsego Bass by the wash tub full.........Result....These fish are extinct today..I still fish Otsego once in the spring for a trial run after getting the boat out of moth balls every spring before I haul her to Cayuga..They have a one fish limit ( each species ) per day now...That started a couple of years ago because of lots of over limit catches by ice fisherman...I love it and the only ones complaining are the ones who created the mess by over limit fishing...Last fall after my place at Cayuga closed for the season...my son and I made one last trip to Cooperstown before winterizing and caught two of the biggest lakers we caught in years...Looks like lower limits have helped that lake.... 8)....Now if the city would fix that Gawd awful launch
