  1. That's interesting. Went out tonight around the perimeter of my property and did some hard cutting. Tried to put some birds to bed and got nada in return. Guess I am hoping for the best in the AM. I hope this lack of gobbling thing is just related to the low pressure system and they are just sneaking around quietly.

  2. That sucks about your population decline. I know the turkey populations near me are fine, I just worry that the birds have moved on. I am sure it's just a bad morning though and things will pick up.

Sounds like I may need to do some preemptive predator hunting though, so as to avoid the situation you described.

  3. Hey guys,

My dad owns 84 acres just outside of Brockport and for the last 5 years it has been something of a turkey Mecca. I am not super experienced but I hold my own in the turkey world. For the last four years we have put down trophy birds and have had to try hardly at all to get them to gobble and come running.

However I did notice last year that the gobbling was sparser and the turkey seemed much quiter in general. They also moved off of the traditional roost site. I thought nothing of it due to the mild winter we had.

Lo and behold I get out there at 5:15 this morning and moved all around the property until 9:30. Didn't hear one peep out of a bird and didn't find any roosting sign. All I found were a few tracks and some droppings. Is it possible that the birds moved off of the property? Am I missing something? How could such a turkey rich environment go from tons of birds to hardly any sign at all?

    Help!

  4. Alright I need some help. Having never in my life hunted waterfowl, I have found the desire to begin goose hunting. Now I need some info on the BARE MINIMUM of what I need to goose on a VERY recreational level. Now please understand that I am not looking to master the crafter or limit out constantly. I would just like to do some shooting on the wing and take a few geese here and there.

So this is what I have.

    1. Basic understanding of goose hunting through much reading

    2. Chocolate lab pup in training

    3. Shotgun

    4. Camo.

What I am hoping to get away with.

    1. Just getting a layout blind. Figure I will be field hunting.

    2. Deke spread, I would really really prefer to use silos. Now I know full shells are where it's at but I do not want to lug all that crap around. I figure the silos are lighter and can still draw some birds in

    What I do not have

    1. Place to hunt. I figure I would ask local farmers. I would figure they would be ok with a goose hunter.

    2. Any goose calling ability whatsoever. Never even tried. Tips on affordable calls would be helpful.

The main point of all this is I would like to just get into goose hunting on a very basic level. I would love to hunt solo with my pup or a buddy from time to time. I just want to do so in a cost conscious and effective way. Any advice?

    Thanks!

  5. Hey guys,

I know this seems like an odd request but I am looking for a farm near Rochester (Brockport really) where I can take my lab pup and shoot some birds. Pigeons are a pest bird in NY and can be shot at any time in any number. They decoy very well and provide great offseason work for my pup.

Obviously respect of the property name of the game. I would respect all limitations and requirements placed on me by the landowner.

Please let me know if you can help me, help my pup become a great retreiver :)

  6. Up for sale is my green Kingpin Imperial. Sick reel, it spins and starts effortlessly. Have a bunch of reels and want to get some other equipment, so I am letting this one go. Reel was just bought and has been used four times. Literally not a scratch on the reel and the condition is brand new.

Bought the reel for $420. I am willing to hear offers. PM me or text 5eight5-472-34one0

  7. For sale is my Okuma Aventa 13'6" Float Rod, the rod is in great shape and only used one year. This would make a great starter or backup rod.

The rod will also come with another handle and middle section should you need them for any reason. Essentially you are getting 1.75 rods for $60 bucks.

This has been a good rod to me and I have no complaints! Just moving to something different. Pics upon request. There is nothing wrong and the rod is clean (no egg goo!)

Text me at 585-472-3410 or PM me.

    Thanks!
