I keep reading the DEC Fishing line saying how the Northern Pike fishing in irondequoit bay has been great so far this season. I live so close to irondequoit bay and I can't ever catch a fish there to save my life. Anyone ever have luck there and if so, where on the bay?????

Just drove by Conesus to check it out and there are 6 trailers in the parking lot making me think those boats are out on the water somewhere. Water level at the launch seems to be normal. So is Conesus open for business on Saturday or what?

I have family from Rochester to Binghamton to Syracuse so we were discussing where to go this Saturday and I know Oneida Lake has a "no boats on the water" rule right now due to how high the water level is right now. I just found out that Cayuga has the same rule in effect until further notice and I doubt that will change by Saturday. I guess the water levels are so high and there is so much debris in the water that they don't want any boat wakes to disrupt things even further. Here is my question. Does anyone know anything about Coneseus? Just curious if they have the same warning as well as any other lakes around Rochester.

Old Man....thanks for the input. We hit the north end of cayuga opening day, middle of the season and end of the season. it is our number one spot since we always catch a ton. My dad lives in Binghamton and my two brothers and I live in Rochester so Union Springs on the north end of Cayuga is a great spot for us to meet often to fish. We kill them there and i would say each trip we get 2 pike above 30 inches which is what we love. We found a spot that will hold ten of us for our family trip this year up on Chaumont Bay. We have never gone there so we are going to give that a try. This will be year number 22! My dad was 48 when we started this and now he will be 70 this year. Started at Bob's Lake in Canada for at least a dozen years then expanded to hit many places. We have done: Black Lake, Lake Champlain, Great Sacandaga and Tupper Lake. We cast about 10 plus hours a day just hoping to hook into that 38 incher but hope to catch a ton of 24 inchers while we are trying.... We joke because the fun of the trip is getting away from Friday to Monday yet when we come back, we probably do better fishing Coneseus and Cayuga but there is no fun in "going away" where you live.............

Take a family fishing trip for Pike each spring for the last 20 years. We are looking to try something new and none of us have ever been to Chautauqua. I know it is good Muskie and Bass but if you hang out and cast for 10 hours a day, will you catch a good amount of Northern or aren't they really there? Any help would be great as I know many of you fish there..........

My whole family uses Poonie spoons and we love them. The part we love most is the fact that most of them come with a single hook. You can obviously get either single or treble but the single are great because they make it easy to get the hook out and they are almost weedless. With one hook they go right through with no problem. We use them almost exclusively now.........get some.....

Our family has a crew that takes a fishing trip every year for the last 23. We used to hit a variety of places but pretty much do 3 years at Black Lake then 3 years at Champlain. Tomorrow we head to Black Lake and fish hard until Monday afternoon. 3 sessions per day with 9 guys and we log a good 9 hours or so a day casting our as* off. I will let you know how we do. We always get plenty of Pike and each day the winner is close to the 30 inch range. We get a few Waldos each trip as well and lots of Bass. We only cast and use everything from Spinner baits to Jointed Rapalas and tons of Rat-L-Traps and Spoons. Local guy in Rochester makes Poonie spoons which are great. Looks like we'll get rained on but we will still be out there and I will let everyone know how it goes.......

Got back from Sandy Pond. The water level is low everywhere there. You cannot put your boat in Sandy Pond and get out in the lake. We put in at Stony Creek and had lots of trouble getting out. Got stuck on sand bar after sand bar. Once we got out in the lake, even that was 2 to 3 feet for hundreds of yards off the shore. I guess all the inlets in that area are dangerously shallow. Did fish Lakeview Pond and got no Pike but 6 or 7 Large mouth.......

I am heading to Sandy Pond for the Memorial Day weekend. Anyone know what the status is with the channel going out to the lake? Can boats pass through currently or no? I have been hearing water levels are really low there and only small boats would be able to pass between the pond and the lake as the water is like a foot only in the channel. Let me know if you have heard anything.......

Def had fun. Can't remember the last opening day I had shorts and a T-shirt on by 8am..

How did everyone do opening morning? Went to Sodus Bay for the first time and casted for Pike from 6:45 until 11:30 and caught one 28 incher and a 16 inch large mouth. I usually go to the North End of Cayuga Lake and I should have stuck with it. My other half of the family fished the north end there and one caught 14 pike and the other 13 pike. Two of them over 30 inches and most of them low to mid 20's......Just got a message from my 9 year old nephew and he just netted his 4th pike in 10 casts at Cayuga......Why did I try somewhere else...........

Hey Lee, you ever have luck with Pike in Irondequoit Bay? Last year I tried to make a point to get there as much as possible to fish it since I never really fished there either. We would head south out of the boat launch and immediately head right or west to the shore line and fish all the way up to the Bay Bridge. We never caught any pike but we did catch bass. Is the north east corner where it is super shallow and weedy good for pike or have you never really caught any in there......We also fished just south and east of the bridge which I think is called Devil's Hole but we had zero luck there.

Thanks for the tip. I am looking forward to it as I can't believe I have never fished there with it being so close and really seems like you would do well there. We will be in a white and green Hurricane Deck Boat......

Headed to Sodus this year. Have never fished it. Usually hit the north end of Cayuga Lake every year as we live in Rochester and other half of family lives in Binghamton so it is nice and in the middle to meet. We have amazing luck picking up about 10 pike a person with the avg being about 20 to 25 inches and there are usually one or two caught over 30. Been quite a few below 20 the last few years so may as well try something different. Where is good on Sodus for Pike? Looks like the whole thing is ideal for pike..
