  1. Lead core is highly speed dependant. This is fine on suspended fish that will travel a distance up to feed, or where you have enough column not to hang up. Just dont want you thinking a 3 color will be AT 15' all day then go try to troll tight structure somewhere and find out the hard way that there is a significant rising and falling action to lead core...its not a precise method though very effective when used for the right application. BTW all negatively buoyant systems are very speed dependant.

Exactly. Just add shot to mono when you're in tight. That lead will drop like a rock on the inside on turns. 7-20' FOW in spring and you don't need lead core.

  2. For kings; Greens, purples, blacks and I'm becoming a UV convert after the past few seasons. Steelies like the brighter orange and red spoons. I've also gained an appreciation of ladder back (fish bone) patterns. The problem is, I've seen fish preference change weekly, and even daily. Last year, in the spring, there was a MS Caddy Shack UV spoon that I couldn't keep fish off of. A month later and it was all but dead. Two years ago, I could have run a 42nd spoon on every rod and caught fish all day. One year ago, I couldn't get it to move. Stick with greens, purples and black combos for kings and orange/red for steelies. Finger Lakes Tackle makes some of the most durable spoons you can get, as far as paint quality goes. Always stop at the local tackle shop and ask what's been hot. They'll tell you the truth because they want you to come back. My 2 cents.

  3. I run 20 lbs big game right to the swivel on my down rigger rods. On my junk lines I leader with 15 or 20. Last season we lost our first 2 spring kings on 12 lbs leader on rigger bites. My buddy that isn't very seasoned was on the rod. We left the leaders off and had no more problems.

And that's the problem Joe. If you don't have ultra-smooth drags or have inexperienced people on the rod, you're asking for lost fish on light leaders.

  4. Ohms divide in parallel and add in series. Two 8 ohm speaker in parallel would be 4 ohms and in series they would be 16 ohms. But also when you use two in parallel as opposed to one, you will increase the wattage substantially (almost doubled) because the amp puts out more power into a lower impedance. I was just saying before that if they are four ohm speakers, you shouldn't wire them in parallel because you will have only 2 ohms which will probably blow the amp.

    Correct

  5. Just got #3 and 4. Sutton #31 on 7 color

Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Two years ago caught 17 fish in the winter one day and every one of them came on the chute 7 color Rod. Must be the magic set up

  6. I'm going to resurrect this post from 2011.  Has anyone had good experience catching alewives QUICKLY?  I don't want to spend 1/2 hour running around finding bait balls only to pick a fish or two.  Can you find bait, drop the rig and pull up a handful in short order?  Might have to order one and find out for myself.  Problem is that nobody carries these and the shipping is more than the rig.

  7. Lets let folks make up their own minds about who is the BS artist....it should be pretty clear by now You're pizzed because someone isn't being intimidated by your tactics and "threatening" your little money making scheme.

Where's the "Like Button"? This goes back to my favorite quote -"For every difficult problem, there's an answer that is simple, neat and WRONG".

  8. I have to respectfully disagree Kingfisher. The laws were written in a different time, a different environment and without anticipation of all possible consequence. As with many things, the system does not protect against potential abuse from self serving interests misaligned with the general good. Being legal and being correct are often two different things.

  9. Thanks big water, where did you mount the compass in your boat?

I didn't, the place that sold me the boat mounted it. It's about 2/3 of the way forward on the boat and slightly to the port under a floor storage area. I'd call Garmin and set up a call for when you're on the water.
