  1. Headed up to the big lake next week from CT and usually launch out of Little Salmon or Oswego. Haven't seen many reports...maybe that's not a good sign??? Would appreciate if anyone can share the news good or bad Was also wondering where I can get the best weather/marine reports for the area. Much appreciated!
  2. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/27/10 Time on Water: 5:30 - 11:00 Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 3'-4' rollers Surface Temp: 69 Location: Oswego LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 1 Total Boated: 1 Species Breakdown: 28lb king Hot Lure: green hammer Trolling Speed: 2 - 3 mph Down Speed: ? Boat Depth: 110 - 150 Lure Depth: 60 - 80 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Took a screamer about 7:00 off the 145' dipsy with green dot spinny pulling a green hammer. Almost lost him wrapped around the down rigger cable but fish was tired and my son grabbed his gill plate and yanked him in. YAHOOO! We took another hit off the down rigger with green echip set at 70 but line got hung up on the release and snapped off Slow day for alot of other folks out there. Heard that water temps were all over the place. One report said 45 degrees at 25 feet. Hopefully more later.
  3. Thanks for the reports! It looks like I'm sitting on the sidelines today, but will try to head out in the am. Where do you get the latest marine forecast conditions? The info you provided yeasterday for today was right on. It would help me to access that source since I'm traveling about 5 hours. Tight Lines!
  4. Hello all, Heading to Oswego tomorrow for the weekend out on the big lake. Has the recent weather screwed things up? I havent seen many postings from the last couple days. I plan on wetting a few lines tomorrow afternoon...any recomendations on boat depth and lure depth to start at? Thanks!
  5. Thanks Kingslamon! That gives me a good starting point. Hope to post some pics if I'm fortunate to hook into a few.
  6. I posted a question on Dipsies last week and have gotten great responses...Thanks to all! One thing thats still not clear to me is how deep you can get with a #1 Dipsy. Luhr Jensen chart only goes to 50ft using the #2 setting based on 20lb mono and 2.5 - 3 MPH. Let back for 50ft is 122. Does this mean 50ft is the max depth that the diver will go no matter how much line you let out? I see many postings that others are letting back 200 - 250ft of line. Does any one have experience getting down to 80ft or more with #1 setting on 30lb braid pulling Flasher/Fly set up? Does increase in speed make it go deeper? Thanks again!
  7. Awsome fish bottom-feeder! If that was me holding that fish, I'd have a smile ear to ear. Maybe the camera man was taking to long to take the pic How many fow were you fishing? Heading to mexico next week are fish out deeper towards 9-mile pt?
  8. Hello all, Ok so I'm new to Dipsys. Based on all the positive info I've seen and heard about success with Dispsys on the big lake I broke down and purchased a couple combos. Probably not the best setup but it should get me started and price was right...$60 combo. 9' Cabelas Depth Master with DM30a reel with line counter. 300 yards of 30# power pro with 100 yards 30# dacron backing. I plan on running 9ft of 20# Seaguar for the leader. I havent bought the #1 Dipsy yet because I confused about the color. I heard black is probably best for all around use because its nuetral. I'm targeting Kings next week...any preferences on color? Also any preference of settings (0,1,2,3) and how much line out to reach 70 - 90 ft depth? I have the #1 Dipsy depth chart but thats based on 20# mono and only goes to 70ft on 0 setting. Any help here would be appreciated! Thanks!
  9. Thanks to all for the feedback. Based on all the positive comments about Dipsies, I picked up a new Dipsy setup and will give it a go. Got good info on line from http://www.fisherie.com/captain/04.07.04.asp (capt Dave Adams DD Charters). I picked up Glo Green #4 and Silver Metallic blue #4 Any preference on how to run the Jplugs either on Dipsy or riggers? Beind flasher or by itself?
  10. Has anyone had much experience or luck using J Plugs for Kings in August? Last August I took my first trip to Mexico Bay for Kings. Used the typical setup of green or white Echips with Atomic green or white flies on riggers. Also used the MS spoons in the popular colors on stackers. Although from various reports, last August seamed a bit slow, I didnt have any luck over the 3 days I was there. Was thinking if changing things up to J plugs or trolling with meat would have had better results. Also does Dipsy's change things up vs riggers? I see many Charters using both. Going back up to MEX Bay or Oswego and want to be preparred for alternatives! Thanks for any advise or comments.
  11. Hey downrigger. I read a lot of posts about the trench and shipping lanes. I'm heading up to Mexico Bay next weekend and was hoping someone can provide coordinates or waypoint to the trench. Thanks!
