  1. Great day Mike, congrats! Yes, we were out yesterday and poked around a few spots. We'll see just how dialed in we are on Sunday! :)

The lamprey problem is most prevalent at the south end in the spring and then again lake-wide later in the season. They haven't been bad at all lately and haven't been bad the past few years in June, July, and August. We didn't fish much this spring due to rigging up the new ride, but in years past nearly every fish that we caught out of the south end in the spring would have at least one lamprey on it, and some would have as many as 4 or 5 small eels on it. Later in the season we've had them attach to rigger weights, the back of the boat, etc.and they're much bigger at that point. I'm another that believes that the lamprey problem has significantly impacted this fishery.

what is your new ride on the water?
  2. Got to the ramp at about 5.30 launched the boat and headed up the lake to a spot a few of us have been doing well at! It was a bumpy ride but the lake was laying down so was looking forward to the fish got the spot I wanted to start and nothing but garbage in the water so north I went cleared up after a few more miles set down in 100fow started setting lines just get the last board to pull up

And boom 5 color goes ended up losing the fish but hopes are high went a little further north marking lots of bait and a few hooks to but could not get a rod to go made a turn and came across the willow shelf and just as the shelf dropped fish hit the spoon diver yep gone to... Sun was going down and wanted to get back to the spot we lost the first one so kept going south and little while goes by the 7 color takes off fight the fish up turned out to be a Atlantic well went to net it and all

Kinds of things went wrong fish ended up jumping into the side of the net and hooks hung up and fish went swimming that was the end of the action for the night tried speed color depth lures many many many lures just could not get these "easy" fish on the lake to play a long! Well nice night for a boat ride considered the first skunk on the boat and Seneca gave out another humbling experience!!!!

  3. Sean is a great fisherman who doesnt expect anything in return, his advise is pretty much "Golden"..AS you know Seneca is a easy lake to fish,I can't ever remember getting skunked (from a boat) in the past 30 years .. BUT I was lucky enuf to be taught by a couple good trollers from day 1...who were as good as any charter back in those days..but as ya know their ain't no majic to it.. just watch yer 3 s's...Also don't get to caught up on Suttons yes they do work and back in their day in the 60's they had a good rap , but with the stuff we have to fish with now you would be foolish to spend much time running them,in a mixed spread.Wish I could play friday I feel like eatin a couple fresh fish..

i think saying it is a easy lake to fish is wrong! It can be ruthless and cold hearted at times!!!! I have seen many 60 and 75+++ fish days but I have also seen the opposite one fish two fish no fish blue fish!!!!!!! And maybe try the shill ones first thing but as Sean said don't waste much time in there bring coppers cores and wires and play out side to! I will be on the lake this evening after work I will try to post what I find!!

  4. I would stay away from Michigan stingers paint washes off spoons. Customer service blows! I have a bunch of silver ones that used to have paint on them if you are interested.

I second this 100% pathetic to have a lure fall apart as quick as they do and horrible customer service!!!! And what they consider to be uv is just shinny tape is all making a bad wrap worse!! And I have a lot of real uv stuff somedays it makes a noticeable difference!!!
  5. It's always a lot of fun I just enjoy drinking the coffee even though mine got cold due to fast paced fishing! And it's not that you were a rod hog all the time just easy to tell when big fish hit lol would have liked to see what broke me off and rapped that laker all up poor thing went for a ride!

  6. Mike form the iron duke and I both had what I would say to be a bitter sweet moment with the honor of weighing that fish in for those guys we were working the scales in Watkins when they brought it to the scales! Jon could not stop shaking or control the emotion as you can't fake that we all know the feeling of what it is like to bring a beast of a fish or a monster box in and top the boards! Not to mention the dam thing was still kickin it bit me as I measured it hahaha! Awesome job way to go guys!!

  7. Their was a bunch of us that were their a few weeks ago some post are on hear from Sunday the 1st the morning bite was great but seemed to slow quick the top 50ft of water and a all spoon bite few 10+ brought to the scales some bows and 2 browns seems to be your either going to get them or not right now like that most everywhere feast of famine welcome to June

  8. Nice report Mike! It wasn't just you on Sunday we had to bust are butt for six bites with only 5 in the boat. One of the worst days I've had on Seneca. Glad the boat is ready to roll and that your back at it.

the fishing may not have been the best ever but you know I sure can't complain about Sunday had a dandy of a time on the water hahahaha
  9. Ya I have been told the cabelas boards can pull 200 and 300 coppers I haven't tried but might give her a shot. The best part of the walleye and cabelas boards are the adjustable keel weights.

Do you run the weight further forward when running copper?

one setting forward works great for my 300 pulls right in the same line as the 100 and 200 do awesome awesome product and I just spent some time talking with the customer service rep very help full and very knowledgeable person great to deal with
  10. I have never seen a offshore board pull half as good as a church board have had both own all church boards now 4 walleye boards and 2 tx22 the 22s pull better if you ask me then the walleye boards I have seen the 22s pull 400 coppers my offshores didn't like to pull a 3 color core to the out side

  11. Well this was my second trip to owasco and once again had humbling day on the little pond!!! Sean from the reel hooked up boat was nice enough to let me follow him up since I got lost last time lol well we reached the ramp at around 5 and in the water the boat went had nick on board with me and we set off to the north end! Set up shop in 75fow running 2 riggers 2 divers and 2 boards first fish came before all the lines even made it in the water spoon parked at 51 average laker reset the rigger and and instantly another one on the same rod 2 fish in under 5 minutes looks like a good day well with the fast action and a limited quantity of fish we can keep and confident we can better both fish we let them go turned out to be a mistake!!!! We headed north the action continued but!! Had a smashing hit on a spoon diver out 180 pulling a new flt spoon!!!! But didn't get a hook after that the 45 rigger screams drag on the hit then stands straight up I run to it wind down see a streak from the line coming to the surface just as the line goes tight rainbow breaks the surface crushed the cheater gave us a show and in the box!!! Shortly after the same spoon in the same place takes off again this time a quality laker ok are call was looking good and the fish were getting bigger well this was about it for are day had a few other fish get away and few other short strikes but slow slow slow and tried everything I had in the boat hundred different lures flashers flies cowbells grease traps dodgers cut bait the works. But no luck had a disappointing 8th placefinish this was also my first time finishing out side the top 5 in 2 years kinda a shame to break that streak but oh well lessons lives and learnes congrats to mike again good friend and good fisherman well deserved win good job all
