I've read Dan Keaton's book. I went out on a reputable charter in the spring. Just finding out that the fish are out deep right now. I've been fishing 70-190 fow so far this year.

Do you have a fish hawk?

Your main line would be longer, because you are running 15 to 20 feet behind the ball. Your cheater line will only be 6 to 8 feet

Looking to sell this rod. Great rod, just don’t get much use out of it. It has been my back up pier/daytime spinner/spoon rod. I have caught some nice salmon and trout on it. The rod is in great shape. Paid 190.00, asking 170 or best offer. I take good care of my gear, and the rod is worth every penny.
Reel not included.

Why not just use alewives?

You should be easily able to find them anywhere from 80 to 120 fow. Drop all you stuff wishing 5 to 10 ft of the bottom and troll between 1.8 and 2.3 and you will catch them no problem

80 to 160 fow. 1 1/2 to 2oz jig heads with white 4 to 5” paddletails, flukes, or tubes. Or jigging spoons. Nice subtle jigs near the bottom. Drift bags helps slow you down so you don’t drift as fast. 20lb braid to 8ft section of 15 lb flouro leader. Good luck. Let me know how you make out

The Moonshine Mag size Carbon 14 with glow back has probably been our best lure for a few years now.
Second that. We always catch fish on the mag carbon 14

Personally, I like to hold my fish close to my body for pictures, so that you can have a better idea of the actual size.
I think it’s cool when the fish is the focal point of the photo! After all, it is the fish we are after. Nice work out there. Keep it up!

Finished the morning 12/17. 10 kings, 1 laker, and 1 coho. Lost a couple really nice kings and a beautiful steelhead. All in all, great day on the water. Mostly a spoon bite for us.

I would be using moonshines, and don’t feel like they have to glow like a lantern. I feel like a nice dull glow going 2.2 to 2.5 at the spoon would get them biting.
I’ve never done it, but if I were to do it, that’s what I would do lol.
Keep us posted on how you make out!
