A day to remember. Left the dock at 7:00 am, just got a look at the lake from up stream in the salmon river and zap, total steering loss. My buddy was out trolling and he towed me back to my slip. well, 7 hours later we left the dock with new steering cable and some very eager fisherman. They were rewarded for their patiants. did a nice slow pick until we hit the (spot). Then all hell broke loose, 7 rods fired within seconds then the 8th fired. we landed most, 1st mate Mark was netting 2 at a time. with no rods left in the water, we pulled the boards, got all releases back, reset lines, spun around and made another pass. Holy crap, all 11 rods fired. Yes, I said all (11) fired. The fun part was, the 7 and 9 year old girls did a great gob, last fish of the trip was a 9 lb Atlantic salmon That the girls tag teamed to the net. Oh yes, I have most of this trip on video and will post it soon, I have lots of editing to do and I'm very busy with work and charters.

Oh yes, lures, every thing was working, I even put out 2 different lures I have never had hits with and they caught fish....

PS, This weather is crazy, can only get out 2-3 days a week.

The color all depends on lacation and what the winds have been doing. These 2 days saw light green color to down right muddy water in front of the creeks. we did a long troll and hit fish in allmost all of it. That's why I kept a good lure color spread out there, when running 10-12 rods it's hard to pull them just to change 2-4 lines, by the time we change them , the water color changed........I will post another report for yesturday, It was (Unbelievable)!!!!!

Started at my port in the salmon river and trolled all the way to Catfish creek, much better in front of catfish. Friday was bumpy. they called for northeast winds but got northwest about 10-15 mph. Friday, we got a 12 lb Atlantic and lost a big brown at the boat, client likes to thumb the spool. Sat. started out slow going 0 for 4 with light bites, just pulling the release back and then gone. But really hit them west of the little salmon. Nice steelhead and 1 nice brown about 8 lbs, had 2 other nice browns on but could not seal the deal to the net. The big report is this freaky weather. 40mph East, then 40mph west, then flat for a hole day, then 40 mph again, Going crazy trying to move people around. But th fish are there, that's the good news. Oh yeah, just when I think we have them figured out lure wise, they want something else. so we kept a good color choice out there and they hit just about everything.

Opps, I forgot one thing

I do run small shot on my stickbaits when there's some grass, weeds or that white fluffy stuff you see on the surface sometimes. it just keeps the lure running clean longer, it's not perfect but it helps. just run a # 7 or so about 5-6 feet in front of your bait

Hi Jbaz

When fishing shallow water i only put split on the spoons, not the stick baits. When I start running a little deeper 12 to 20 plus. I will very the size of shot to figure out how they want it. Keep in mind, longer leads will make your sticks run a little deeper even with no shot.

Moved boat from little salmon river to my slip on Salmon River, fished about 2 hours went 9 for 11, all browns, biggest was 14 lbs. This trip is on the video page here, and youtube.

Next day, First Trip of the year with only 2 clients, went 14 for 18. water was clearer then day before, biggest was about 9 lbs. Fished about 4 hours, clients were tired and it started to rain. Great to be out there.

Yo-zuri was the best early then thundersticks took off, tried some spoons, nothen.

My speed all depends on water color. If the color is deep green or brown I'll slow it down to around 2.0 or a little slower. Clear water, I'll bump it up to 2.5 or higher, I can't tell you how many times I'm killen the browns and I have to pass other boats that are just putten around. Atlantics like it fast, last year most of our atlantics came on outside turns or when I bumped the speed up.

You asked a lot but here goes. I try to run at least 1 flasher in my riggers even when there's a spoon bite just for the attraction factor. The dipseys are too far from the riggers lures to attract for them. When spoons are on the dipseys, I run attractor colors, like frog or green or my custom mt. dew green/chrome. last August was easy, it was a flasher bite all day. 3 on the riggers, 2 on the dipseys, and both coppers all had flashers. I run my dipeys on 2 1/2, I like them away from the boat, remember you will be spooking some fish with you're rigger spread. Also, I want them to dive a little on the turns, same with the copper. I run the dipies a little higher then the riggers so not worried about hitting bottom. also, I hear alot about the "spread", I believe the bigger the spread, the better a lot of time. Most mornings, 3 or 4 riggers will be spread 20ft leads to about 35ft. as morning goes on we spread them out. 25ft leads to as much as 80ft, yes I said 80. I've even put them out as much as 150ft off the riggers and those were the only rods to fire after 11:00am, haven't done that in a few years but only 2 riggers with that spread.

Hi everyone, I've been fishing lake O for 24-25 years now and I still love it. I run a charter boat, and just love putting people on there first salmon or trout. I had a family last year from Fla. and the 11 year old kid caught a 9 lb walleye. They had no clue what it was! I had to convince them it was good eating.. Anyway, just waiting for this crazy cold weather to break so I can put the boat in. Very nice site and glad to be here. I've posted couple vids and will post more from new boat when I get out there.

Well, I know I'm gonna get a lotta flack for this but here goes. I don't run my riggers much in the spring, at least not in early spring. I run everything off the boards. The reason is simple, they just get in the way. I can't tell you how many nice fish, especially walleye, have come to the back of the boat and got the fishing line from the rigger around them. When that happens you can say goodbye to most walleye and some nice browns. They don't like it and they spazz, shake like crazy and jump off. But, I'm almost always running in 5-9 feet of water, if I were fishing deeper, I would use them... I run spoons off the boards with small split shot. In dirty water I only run loud vibration baits.

Hi Stevo, if you're only in 20 ft or so I use the riggers to cover the 16-19 ft depths just so I can adjust them quickly. On the boards, I'll spread them out, first rod out no weight, next rod out 1 big split shot, 3rd rod out 2 big split shot, all these lures are shallow divers. 4th rod out medium or deep diver like deep jr thunderstick, or shad rap. Rember, longer leads mean deeper depths. Riggers will have spoons or shallow sticks. Pay attention to what works and make adjustments

Josh Brown came all the way from maine to catch some big lake ontario salmon, and that's just what he did. First Rod in the water for only 30 seconds netted Josh this 32 lb Bore!!!!
