  1. Doesn't it depend on how big the reel is??

those 45 D 's I just backed... need HALF mono to fill the reel !

    (with 1000' of wire)

or my line counter was all fubar!

and i found a cool knot... a beckets bend... (fire fighter knots)

it's simple, holds, and we couldn't even make it break

  2. I'm curious to how you came up with your screen name. Is one of your dogs shy or are you shy of 1 dog? Lol. Anyway, nice report and you are starting to learn well! :)

    the second one is correct...

I had to send a much BELOVED 6 yr old (very fit) dog to Heaven....due to a spinal injury.... ;(

He went from healthy and fit... to semi paralized, in severe pain.... in ten days...

    surgery wasn't an option.... ;(

Me and my lil Papillon were in shock...

    Hence... 1dogshy

I've been catching big fish in the Atlantic... for years...

The cam on the boat sounds cool... 8)

ok... so who eats lamphrey??:rofl::rofl:

yeah... Lil Troller had me reeling in copper....

He is the one to Thank for getting me started!:yes:

    Thanks Dude!

  4. Put in at Long Point about 2PM

    North wind about 10mph.

Trolled west side, south from Long Point past Sheldrake, at 40' and 55' feet in 120-150 fow, using dipseys, no hits.

Checked lines, small amt of weeds,

Continue trolling south at 65' and 80' in 150- 200 fow.

Got a short at 65' on blue and green Spin Dr w greenish flasher fly.

Continued south past Kidders got nice (Salmon) 22" at 80' in 200 fow, on a purple Spin D w dark/light flasher fly.

Took a break to East side to swim w dog.

Weeds looked the same on east side.

    Spotty large clumps.

    Fleas, not bad.

Stopped at Kidders for dinner w dog, (Thanks for that suggestion!)

    Trolled north on west side.

Had to use big motor, problem with clamps to small motor plus wind kinda strong for 15 hp short shaft..

Big HIT north of Sheldrake in 200 fow at 80' on purple Spin Dr/ Flasher fly again.

What a time I had of it!!!!

...trying keeping boat straight into wind, speed of big motor (faster than I want) while cranking in a 10lb, 32" Laker with (15"?) Lamphrey.

That was a great catch! hard to do all that alone... Big Time~!

Sorry the pics aren't too good...

I had to take my own pic's...during the whole mix...

---All while thinking of getting the fish back into water...---

so... photo shoot was short! and I had that darn Lamphrey wiggling around my bare feet...LOL!!

I wish I took a close up of that nasty Lamphrys mouth!!

You can see the wounds on that poor Laker..

All were revived and released.. except the Lamphrey.

Heres the dumb part... I didn't know for sure if my second fish was a Salmon..

and I didn't want him to die, while I fiddled around looking it up...

So I sent him back... now looking it up... I see it was and it was a keeper...Darn...

Oh Well... better to be safe than sorry...

I am whooped today, fished til dark.. wind settled right down and sunset was awesome...

    (then 2 hr ride home :no::no: )

ps.. i need to have that Lanyard attached to me when I'm fooling around underway by the motor all alone in the evening, if I go in the drink... my boat is bye bye... and I'll be swiming

  5. Hi Folks...

I'm headed to Long Point shortly...

This will be the first time trolling with my new wire /reel set ups alone.

I should be on the lake before noon... hopefully til dark...

I'm a little nervous, trying to do it alone.. (well, I will have one dog w me...:)

...so if you see a boat wandering... and someone fighting a birdsnest... :o

just stay Hi... ---or steer clear,,, LOL!

ps... yes, I do have my marine radio ....

    see ya

  6. why dont more women fish?????

i have a heck of a time getting my women friends to fish...

and my guy friends, wives, dont care to have hubby spending day with another woman.....

    - I can understan that -

You would think a chic with a boat would be able to find plenty of fishing partners... :o

    ain't the case...

tho my dog is great.... she can't steer the boat!

  7. Funny stories... (from a distance).. not when it's YOU!!

I try to keep boat hooked to trailer til I get mostly in... heard too many stories like that!!

Falling off a dock is ALWAYS entertaining...as long as no one gets hurt!!

Yesterday at work, (fire dept), we get a call, Man uncon in pool with neck injury...

We go flying there, I was driving the Ambo... we were stripping off our non-waterables while enroute...

    (phone, wallets, watch...etc)

we had two crews there... sad... Dude tried to do a forward roll into pool to entertain grandkids,

he hit his head on the bottom.

Half of us were in the pool in our stationwear, -collar and boarding him-.. his ex-nurse wife was in there holding head stabilization when we got there..

He was concious but couldn't move anything from the waist down...:no::no::(:(

We got done w paperwork and left hosp while they were wheeling him into CAT scan...

Wife said they thought he did indeed break his neck... :(

Chit Happens... so quickly and surprisingly.... ;(

( I caught a nice Laker jigging at Owasco a month or so ago.. )

  8. My bad. I thought we were talking about connecting the backing. I use the same not as ben but use the same bearing swivels that are on spin doctors.

    [ Post made via iPhone ] iPhone.png

do u have any idea... how many times i tried that albright???? :@:@:@

then tried a nail knot... :@:@:@:@:@

    until i was almost suicidal !! ;(;(;(;(;(;(;(

    it wasn't pretty :rofl::rofl::rofl:

    BUT....

i figured out the PERFECT KNOT to join two lines of differnt diameter from my fire fighter book..

and it didnt PULL out................. even with leather gloves....

i think I'm gonna patent it....!!!

hey Rshubuck.... were u trying to pull my leg??????? LOL!!

    8)8)

  9. thanks guys..

i guess i'll do what they said on the phone....

reel up the wire, then fill in w mono,

then reel it onto the other reel so I know how much mono to use....

then use that amount on the 2nd reel....

boy i hope i dont screw this up...

( i think what Rshubuck was saying is that i will have a lot of extra space on the 45's cause they are bigger)

-yeah, I do use backer mono for braid..

now i gotta go look up how to tie one on!! hahaha and how to tie mono to wire..

  10. Ok... I have a question..

    I've heard both answers.... :(

I'm trying to decide whether to put mono backing under my wire...

the reels are new Okuma CV-45D

I'm getting 1000 feet for each (2) reels I'm getting tomorrow...

why do some say yes and some say no...?

Hey Wes... have a good time with Gramma... !!

sorry I cant go to the LOU all...

    I have to work...
