  1. Im not sure if your unit has the Down image tech. but I have the 587CI HD, and from what i see the only difference is color and it does everything I need for fishing besides telling me down speed at the ball lol. Mine relatively matches my fish hawk +/- a couple points with speed and tells me everything I need to know about where I'm at and what the bottom looks like. If you have Down Imaging then your above the game but Im not sure how useful DI would be with salmon and trout anyways. just my 2 cents

  2. I started working on mine these past couple days total size will be 6 1/2x 7ft, using 2x2s as a frame and 1/4 inch cabinet grade oak to go over the top. 2x4 used as extra support for radios etc. Cant see it in the photo but there is a pitch using two horizontal 2x2s. plan on using fiberglass resin to seal everything. It's the same Idea as the WEST system i believe but not totally sure. Used on other boats before and works fantastic! But the stuff pictured is 11$ a liter compared to like 100g for the WEST without hardner. Will probably need about 4 of these liters to finish this project. WEST does make a dye for the resin to turn it white (which i bought for 20$ expensive) and with my experience the only reason i'd use the Mat stuff is for color change or extra stiffining of the core. worst case senario, sand & paint. The walls will be made out of maybe 70% acrylic sheet from lowes with a wood frame using a router. Now with tomorrow days being in the 50's and up Im super motivated to get this done. I'll post more pics if anyone is interested. please let me know how things are going, glad to share the experience.3761624.jpg00404_Bondo_Fiberglass_Resin.jpgIMG_0062.jpg

  3. i have a 125 hp merc salt water oil injected on a 21ft cruiser and run a 8hp four stoke honda that runs off the main fuel line just fine, great cause it doesnt put any use on the main motor and trolls all day long keeping a steady charge on my batteries so i can listen to tunes, play with riggers and not worry bout being stuck in BFE on Ontario, also a great secondary insurance policy. Its a pull start but has a charging alternator, weird.

  4. Man I am in the same exact boat as you are right now with my 21ft cruiser. I was going to use the bimini top hardware and just throw a wood/cloth resin hard top but now Im thinking it might be too flimsey. So now Im thinking im going to use 2x2 for beams aft of the steering area and use the bimini stainless steel for the rest. From past experience with wood I wouldn't even put it on the boat without using epoxy resin, that stuff seals everything, even really cheap wood for a core. If you can weld then weld all day and this would probably be an easy project, but if you can't not so much. If you have any Ideas pass em my way because im going to have a hard top in a couple weeks weather or not it holds lol. I also saw this photo and thought it should be easy as long as i glass everything. 4.jpg

  5. Thanks everyone, The cables are hard to turn at all times so I figured if i have to replace the cables, it would be a lot easier to replace with hydrolic steering instead of rack n pinion cables. so many nooks in a boat i had a pain just replacing my outboard and steering cables.Came across baystar kit seems reasonable. So then i start thinking about auto pilots, especially thinking about last season trying to fish by myself setting up rods in 3ftrs. going in circles. Shoot, even with a passenger who doesn't know how to steer or set up rods is difficult so i thought gee... auto pilot what a dream. started looking and found the prices match the dream. I came across the s1000 but read that at trolling speeds it sometimes doesn't register on another forum? needs like a minimum of 3 knots to operate efficently? Well that's no bueno. but it did state that it was easy to set up with hydrolic steering. As far as GPS goes I have a 500series hummingbird, nothing too fancy but still like 5 bills, now im worried i need a different set up with different GPS function compatible with an autopilot system. I have a 8hp kicker but it's pull start (not sure if that matters) but the gladiator system for small outboards still a couple $$$. so i guess Im confused. Any thoughts? Thanks guys.

  6. just bought a 21ft boat, motor ran fine with ear muffs and looked great so i bought it. Took it to the marina and on the water couldnt go past 5mph. Marina mechanics told me i needed a new stator and that was because 2 spark plugs wernt firing? and they told me the compression was low... 70,75 on one side then 90 on the rest.... is this something to tackle or is it New motor time? Any advise before i spend mucho $$$$ into another motor would be great... thanks.

I bought this boat hoping to get into salmon fishing but from what the mechanics at the marina have to say the compressions low on the 150 evinrude. 70,75, on one side, 90's in the rest. I'm not sure what it would cost to fix. Might be looking at a new motor from what they tell me...who knows. Would sell the motor to fix. It came with a camper canvas. PM me for more information. Im just looking to make some money back. Thanks for looking.

  8. Thanks for the help, I think I'm going to just throw a motor on there. Im looking at a 15hp four stroke, Are the connecting rods universal for motor links or at least adjustable? I saw a link made by panther in West Marine but it looked pretty long, wasnt sure if it was adjustable or not.

  9. So i need help with a kicker, One, this is a 21ft boat. so 9.9 should work? and Two, im not sure if i need a kicker mount or if i can just throw one next to the 150 and start fishing? I like the idea of a lifting bracket but at the same time i hear bad juju about them trailering. I dont' know. any help would be appreciated. ~Matt
