  1. I am working on replacing my old wood transom in my Tracker. I had a hunch the transom was completely rotten, but was in denial. I literally had this out a week ago fishing on Seneca. I had to share once I started pulling things apart.

The wood really isn't wood anymore, but loosely assembled wood chips and soggy wads of the remnants of plywood. It was unnervingly close to pulling the motor bolts through, also.

I'll post more pictures as the project progresses.

  2. Had an ok day out of clute. 2 salmon, 2 rainbows. Had another salmon hook up and bump off shortly after. The bows and 1 salmon were literally in front of the boat launch, the other salmon was out near the dirt line. Lures were a little firetiger rapala and a rainbow trout yo zuri pinfish.

The big rainbow was 30", 8.5 lbs. This was his first time fishing outside of PA. Beginners luck!

  3. At least the weather looks ok!

I am bringing along a guy tomorrow that has never fished in New York. The only trout he has caught were out of PA streams. If we get into anything, it'll be a treat for him!

I'm bringing along rods for flatlining, copper/flatfish and for my downriggers. I really like watching people catch finger lakes and great lakes fish that have never fished for them before. It's an awesome thing!

I'll be out tomorrow. Jumping in at Clute Park. By the sounds of it, I will be trolling a couple smaller bombers out the chute.

    Cheers.

  4. Figures. The weather never cooperates with me on days I can make it up. The big O is just another 40 minute drive, and weather underground is forecasting a beautiful day up there. Maybe I'll head up there until Seneca stables out.

  5. How is the south end of Seneca doing right now for fishing? I am hopefully headed up to launch at Clute Park in the morning. Just wanted to get an idea how hard I am going to have to work for fish!

I am bringing my rigger gear (spoons, flashers, etc) and the copper/flatfish rods. Something is bound to work!

    Thanks!!

  6. Hi all

I have picked up a project that I may regret. It's an older Proline walk around with an I/O 4.3l V6. The person I am buying it from is a co-worker who said it popped and seized fast. I know going i to it that it may require a complete repower. Has anyone ever replaced the engine in a similar boat? I have found reman'd engines online for $2300 that are complete and ready to bolt in. Seems like it won't be a nightmare project, but I have been wrong before.

  7. I am looking to sell or trade my Nitro bass boat. Here are the specs:

1998 Nitro 884 Savage with 150 Mercury 2 stroke. It is also a 1998, direct oil injected. I bought it with a hotgoot gas pedal installed. Cranking battery was replaced this May.

It runs awesome and is pretty quick (~52mph).

It has a Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 70# 24v trolling motor with iPilot. The trolling batteries were new last summer.

Console has a Humminbird 757c depth/GPS combo unit. Front deck has a Humminbird 570 that is hooked to the trolling motor universal sonar. Both work great!

I am in the process of changing out the plastics for the dash panel and switch panel with ABS plastic. The original wood grain look plastic is old and cracked.

Included trailer is a Loadrite single axle bunk trailer. The tires were replaced last year and the bearings, seals and buddies were replaced in early June.

    Carpet is in decent shape.

The livewell pumps were replaced last summer. They didn't need it, but I wanted to tweek with something and had a couple days of fun!

I just had multicolor deck lights and white compartment lights installed and a Pyle radio/CD player installed.

I am asking $7800. I have nearly $10,000 invested in this since May 2012. It is a great boat, but doesn't fit the style of fishing I mainly do. For trades, I am looking for a walkthrough deep-V style for fishing finger lakes and the Big lake for trolling. 18-20' aluminum with an outboard.

Any questions or want for more pictures, just ask!

  8. Went with Captain Joe's out of Geneva this morning. With 2 of us, we trolled copper and flatfish with just 1 rod each. Managed 16 fish on, boated 10. All lakers, 1.5-5lbs. Not too bad for a 4 hour outing. Joe was a top-notch guy!

  9. Hi all!

I am up on Seneca the next couple of days and would like to jig for trout/salmon. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? We are staying about 6 miles north of Watkins Glen on the east shore. I tried this morning in 60-80 FOW with white zoom flukes just north of Smith Park and got skunked.

    Thanks!

  10. This is a very basic question that I would love to hear from anyone about.

I read on J plug packages that they are supposed to be fished behind a dipsey or flasher. can these be fished by themselves like a stickbait or spoon? Are there any off the wall techniques to fish these?

    Thanks!

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

Went out of I-Bay with Reel Crazy, Capt. Broz. What a day! Started with browns, boated 3, including a 14lb 14oz derby entry. It was the biggest brown caught for the day in the derby and currently #6. Went deeper for lake trout around 845am. Caught our limit, including a 20lb 10oz entry in the derby. Also turned out to be the biggest lake trout entry for the day and currently #2 in lake trout. Went out deeper after we got our limits in lakers and hooked into a 9lb steelhead and 2 11-12lb kings. Non stop fish all day. Major kudos to Capt Broz! 2 derby fish in one 8 hour trip!! Pictures to follow of the derby entry fish when I get them on the computer.

  12. And for the update...

I managed to get out Wednesday. Launched at 6am from the Genessee River launch. The swells were only ~1 foot, so I went out to 50 FOW, threw out some spoons, crankbaits and a flasher/fly. Depths varied, but had 1 release on a purple/black spoon. Did ~2-3 miles to the east at 50 feet, went in to 20 feet with a mix of crankbaits, at varied depths. No bites there.

Since I didn't see any other boats around, I assumed they were all in deep water. I started out and made it to around 95 FOW when the swells got to be too much for my bass boat. Somewhere around 3 feet? I said I would call it when the nose of the boat was moving water. I could see 4 boats in the distance, but decided I didn't feel like swimming. I made it ~1/2 miles past a lit buoy out and to the left of the river mouth. When I turned around, the coast guard made a drive-by within 50 yards of me. I guess this was a nice way of making sure we had our life jackets on and saying we shouldn't be that far out, given the conditions. I got skunked, but it was great fun. At least I figured out what my personal limits were for my boat.

Next time, I'll wait until the fish are closer to shore, and leave the deep water fishing to the pro's. It just give me a reason to book one when I feel the urge to go!

    Was anyone else out?

  13. Has the rain the past few days brought the fish in any closer? I'm looking at the maps online that I can find for depths and 200-400 FOW is farther out than I think I want to venture with the forecast of stray thunderstorms Wednesday. I'd like to keep it within 2 miles from shore. I'm not 100% confident my 18.5' fiberglass bass boat can handle any waves over 2-3 feet. Not that it's in bad shape, I don't need to be the leaky boot and have to work the bilge pump taking on waves.

How close in are the browns? Last year when I went with a couple charters, we seemed to be catching them pretty close to shore (within 100 yards) in 30-40 FOW. Is that the norm? They are a fun fish!

  14. Good luck, by the way rochester is kept quiet because we like that way.

Your secret is safe with me!

I promise not to make a huge dent in the population. I'll be up for most of the day on Wednesday. Look for the Nitro bass boat with downriggers. Say hi if you are out and wish. I'll try to not be "that guy" :P

    Cheers
