Hi guys. Just bought a boat and want to wire up my riggers. Any suggestions on technique? Boat has two battery with switch. Nice neat wiring so far. Appears to be some sort of wiring block on transom but think its alreadt used up for accesories. Mercruser i/o wiring. Im thinking i want to go direct to battery. Want to limit wires direct connected. Maybe a large wire to feed another wiring block ( not sure wherevto get). Maybe put a switch to ensure riggers dont draw when not using. Scottys if it helps. Will order the quick connectors. I have two riggers now. May run more in future whichnis why im leaning toward some sort of wiring block if i can find one Thx fir any advice guys!

Been fishing Canandaigua for a couple of years on a pontoon with an outboard and completly love trolling. Just bought a boat to get on lake O with and it has an i/o. What do guys do for early fishing with i/o's with threat of freezing nights here and there??? Do u have to pull all of the plugs until chance of freeze is gone???? Cant wait to get out there!!!!!

Here is a pic of my setup. I run two scotty down riggers on each side mounted on a board I attach with two u-bolts on either side. Boat converts from a tub and ski boat to fishing in minutes I also have rod holders on the sides for planer boards or dipseys

Had a great day! Took my nephew and daughter out and we did fairly well in the south end. So great to see their eye's light right up when that pole pops! The news to share is the Sutton's worked very well. All between 30-60 feet down. Worked the south end all around Wiskey point. Tried to toss the little bows back in but they went belly up and the gulls were after them so we got em' for the freezer Great meeting you FLXtroutman. Thanks for all the tips and discussion.

Have a cottage for a week with the family and tried to get a little trolling in and it's realllllly slow. I threw everything at them, flies, stick bates, suttons, stingers. May actually try some rubber worms - never have tried this Best luck was on a sutton 25. Picked up two lakers 130 FOW on the bottom by vine valle and another over by German Bros right on the bottom. Also - a smally 70' down over 160 near German brothers. Otherwise - very, very slow. I haven't gone south of vine valley but worked both sides and middle all the way up north everywhere from 60-150 foot - nothing... Will try going south today. Fleas are there but workable. Lot of floating weeds in the middle of the lake yesterday - hopefully the scum is gone today.

Started trolling from the south on the west side about a mile before German Brothers between 70 and 100 FOW and then made a loop across to the west side. Picked up a couple browns around 6 pounds on silver spoons with green. Nothing on copper colored spoons but I think someone did say green and copper and the greens were on. Took a third when we headed back south on the west side on a flat line stick bait. Not bad but not crazy busy but all in all a good day on the lake. I usually troll for trout at 1.8 to 1.9 MPH - anybody have any confirmation on the speed or suggestions? Doing better this year then my first year last year but always looking to fine tune.

Wow - sounds like a fun day. Who won the tourney? Wondering how large of a fish if you recall. 9 for a 11 - man that does sound fun and you put some work it - good for you. I was out there also but stayed within the first couple of miles from the south launch and mostly on the east side which was slow. We went 4-4 and the fish were on the small side, 4 pounders or so - all but one got tossed back in which was 7 pounds. However, once we made a turn, we started picking them up on the west side. I was surprised as the east side had been working well up until this past weekend. I never made it northbound too far, we ended up leaving around noonish.

Ah, that's exactly what I must of done this past Sat. I couldn't really feel it but I need to find out where the concrete pad ends. I guess it must not go in too far as I pulled my boat out with a smashed light and license holder. Woodville is real shallow.

The planer board (only purchased one) worked great but didn't catch any fish I don't have a mast yet, but do need to build something as I can tell by getting the line up higher it would work better. I tied off the line to the rail on the boat and it worked OK but again, would work better being up higher I bet. Tried everything on the planer. Spoons, dodger and fly, stick baits, nothing. We did end up with 3 lakers way down around 120 over 120-140. All right on the bottom. Picked up nice brown around 40 down over 120. Most of our action was suprisingly on the west side this time. We fished the south end the entire time. Have to watch the south end launch at the end of the launch. I must have bottomed the trailer out and not known it. When I was doing a light check to leave for home, realized the license plate holder and left signal were smashed. Luckily I had extra bulbs but I'm not sure what happened, I may have had to go a little deep to get my boat in and hit mud which knocked the light off. The launch is alright but for my rig, I'm going to have to split the truck and trailer. A quad cab with a 24 pontoon takes up just about the entire width of the lot. Catches were all on spoons. Suttons were hot along with green. Tried up higher a bit for a while to get some bows or browns but nothing. Might try Saturday again if I can get the time out. I'm dying to catch a fish on these darn flies

I've never launched at the woodville location - do you think I'll be OK in terms of room and capacity if the Avon Anglers are there? Not sure if the parking lot is large enough. Are they charging at this time of year yet? I have a passport from last year but I'll have to look on-line to see the dates it's good for.

Hi guys, Going to head out there tomorrow morning. Will be fishing the south end. So this is my first spring trolling and I just picked up a cannon reversable planer. Not ever using one before, wonder what to run off of it. My understanding is the planer gets the lines away from the boat to get more lines in the water and perhaps for fish which get spooked. Also, they will get the lines in shallow water while the boat can remain in a little deeper water for the early spring fish (browns and bows I believe) which are coming out of the tributaries. This being the case, what are some good tips for planers? I was thinking maybe up to two lines on the planer. Maybe a wire with a diver and a flat liner? Few weeks ago, all my catches were in deep water and deep depth but then again, they were all lakers. Would be nice to get a bow or brownie. FLXT - going to try the dodger and flies again. I will be sure to tell you if I catch anything. I thought someone jinxed them as I still havne't caught anything off them to date but will try different speeds. I typically try for around 1.7 - 1.9. Maybe I should try a fly off the dipsey and planer and another on the rigger just to cover both. I got Laurvick releases thinking it would be nice to simply keep the board in during a release and just slide another line and release down again. We'll see how this works in use though. I also read to keep the outer line on top if running multiple off the planer. So I assume you let a few hundred feet of line out, attach to release, let it slide out and then set the drag? I think ?? Appreciate any tips for the first time using planers. Hope to see a few guys out fishing. Was hoping for warmer weather but I'll take mid 50's if we can get it.

Right now I am using plastic (I know, I know) rail mount rod holders. I have a small chain which I put either around or clip right to the reel just in case. The Seth has a lot of drag and will some day snap the plastic rod holder. Same for the dipsey. I mount the dipsey on the side rail of the pontoon - Seth off one back corner and rigger of the other back corner. I think what I'm going to do this year is make up a 2x8 or 2x10 board to go across the back - double it with a 2x4 betwen two of the planks and mount sched 40 pvc rod holders. This way I can mount all of my fishing gear once rather then individually each time I need to go out. Any ideas are welcomed. Some day I want to get a straight up fishing boat, something simple like a center console where I can fish and simply put away with out worrying about all the blood and such on the carpets.

Went out last Thurs as more of a test-n-tune but it worked out well. Boat and gear worked and we caught a total of 10 trout. We had 9 lakers and one nice brown. Let most go, kept a few for the Friday fish fry. Had most luck on East side in 170 FOW fishing around 140 down. Nothing off the dispey all day. Nothing off top lures. Had most luck on Seth and Rigger set low. Copper and some colored up suttons worked but nothing with the true silver without markup. I still have yet to ever catch a fish off a fly on Canandaigua I must be doing something wrong.. Hope everyone had a good winter and let's get out there again. Can't wait for this weather to get warm again...

I'm looking for a decent all around fishing boat. I currently own a family pontoon boat I've turned 1/2 way into a fishing boat but the boat is really only good for calm water, basically the fingerlakes. So... I'm looking to get a 2nd boat to turn into a fishing boat and leave the pontoon for family fun. What's a good all around boat I could take into the fingerlakes and also safe enough for lake ontario? I'm thinking toward an open console with walk around capability. Also thinking no cuddy as I'd probaby trailer where ever I go. Everyon swears by a Boston Whaler from folks I ask. Any suggestions or guidance is appreciated..
