  1. I don't fish any lakes this time of year on my boat. I have a friend that fished Keuka a few weeks ago and had a blast with trout. Lots of action but typically smaller trout on Keuka. No info on Canandaigua though. I think there was a thread that the south end launch was still open and free of ice though.
  2. That's what I meant - or Floro. So floro for a leader then and keep the main line with XL or XT - ok.. never thought of just going with floro for leaders - good idea. thanks nice boat man. I think I saw you out in the late summer/fall one day when I was fishing with a buddy in the derby right outside of genesee river. i thought man, that's a sweet boat to fish with..
  3. I'm fishing trout in Canandaigua, wondering, what's the best line out there. I've used XL without any problems but is mono better? How do you tell when you need to re-line your reels or do you just do it once a year to be safe?
  4. Hey, good thread guys - I'm thinking about getting into Dipsey's also and this thread was helpful. Going to check out Gander this weekend to see if they have any rod and reel combo's to look at along with some wire.
  5. Hey Tcon - thanks for the lead core suggestion. Wasn't even sure what lead core was so I did a little investigating and looks like it's a way to get down deeper and with better line performance without using a rigger or dispey. Only drawback I read about was the amount of line and muscle to get it reeled in. I might not have it right yet but that's what I gathered from my reads on the internet. Does sound like an option. Was wondering how guys fished 8 color - never added up, now it does. Neo - yes, my scotty is electric. It's tough to do a lot of rigging on a pontoon as there aren't any sides or transom so I'm limited until I can get a real fishing boat!
  6. Anyone hear when the launch will open in 2012??
  7. Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and trolling as of last year. I have a pontoon boat and I'm trying to learn to fish trout in Canandaigua. I need a little help with my next investment for gear. Here's what I have so far and I'm wondering what I should get next: I have a single Scotty Downrigger (love this thing) One Seth Green rig (great also) What should be my next setup for trout on Canandaigua? I've messed around using Dipseys on spare rigger rods but it only works so-so with mono. Should I get a wire setup and run Dispeys sort of the "right way" for a third setup to run? Should I invest in planer boards first or are they really just for spring and browns? Torn on what to get next... Where is a good place to get hooked up with gear? I bought my Seth Green from Sutton's and thought they were really good and hooked me up. Not sure if they'll have a setup for running wire for me but will make a trip tomorrow to see. I like to try and shop with locals if possible but I can go to the big boxes if need be. Thanks in advanced for any advise on another setup to run guys..
  8. Hey Everyone, thank you very much for all the advice!!!! Going to get the boat ready for tomorrow and give it a shot early in the AM. I think I will try the south end, haven't done that yet and then I launch at the north so I can hit that on the way back if no luck.. Again, thanks a bunch for the help - I'm going to try the advice and I'll let you know how I make out. I might try Seneca too- it's probably not that much farther of a haul from hitting Canandaigua if it's more active. Anyone have a suggestion on which launch to use? I'm pulling a 24' pontoon with a quad cab, so I'm a fairly long rig a and need a little room to park. Never have been to Seneca and wanted to know if anyone had insight as to which north end launch is better for a long rig like me. Thanks again guys - can't wait to get out tomorrow AM and give it hell!!!!!!!
  9. Anybody having luck on Canandaigua for trout? Been trying the past couple of weekends around the north end without luck. Tried various depths. Tried a few different NK's and some Sutton's. Any tips on location or bait?
  10. Canadaigua conditions are nice. Every here and there you need to watch for logs but it's way better then a few weeks ago.
  11. Hey, thanks for the tip on the minnows - I'll try anything at this point to try and hook a trout. Thanks for the tip on the charter also. Hopefully I'll figure out how to catch some soon! Thanks again for the tip and reply.
  12. Just starting my first year of trolling in Canadaigua. Been trying various Sutton's, NK's with and without flahsers. Mostly in the north end. Mostly on the West side, not really marking on the East side. Marking fish - not a bite though. Any suggestions? Different bait suggestions maybe? Running a Seth Green - so covering area with 5 lures - one ever 20'. Moved the downrigger around - was marking around 60' down in around 130' of water and then some right on the bottom. Is the South end or other area's better? Thanks in advanced for any help. Been out 4 times and nothing - getting frustrated.
  13. Name: Jeff Location:Lima Home Port:Lima Boat Name/Type:Pontoon I fish for:Trout and others ================== Hi everyone. My first post - just joined. I just started fishing Canandaigua and have a pontoon boat I equipped with a down rigger, holder for flat line and a Seth Green rig. I've tried four or five times in the north end, right after the drop off around 130-160' of water to catch trout. Nothing Been trying various Sutton's, just tried a couple of NK28's and have been flat lining a green/orange rapala. Is this bad luck or any suggestions to try and get some luck? Any certain spots to try other then the north end drop off? I've been marking the fish around the bottom and around 50-75 down. Fish are there, just not biting my lures. Running as slow as I can - around 1.9 - 2.2mph. Any advice??? Appreciate in advanced everyone!!!! Love fishing and being out there, but would be fun to catch one too!
