  1. ohhh god noooo...as if the gobies werent a big enough pain in the rear.
  2. edit... whoops double post.
  3. yeah...ive been going there at least once a week since april 1... april and may saw only sporadic trout activity... though there were large schools of rockbass, carp and smallmouth... Now all of a sudden, the first week of june, a huge run of browns makes its way upstream... Pretty late to be spring fish... and way to early to be a fall run. I think the constant weather changes weve had the past few days have played havoc with the water temp and has tricked some of the trout into thinking its later in the year than it really is and has caused them to become alot more active and run upstream.... either that or more fish were recently stocked at a point downstream- though many of the ones ive been catching are a little large to be hatchery fish. went today again and got a few more. i guess a school of really active browns is enough to hold me over until salmon and steelhead start moving.
  4. Ive managed to find some pretty good, productive spots on the irondequoit creek.... one spot yielded large brown trout and a few smaller ones, and a 12lb carp. a nice fat yellow perch in there for good measure too... I went to the stream expecting to see carp, suckers, panfish and possibly some smallmouths as you usually would find this time of year, but i was delighted to find a school of browns- big and small- that seemed to be pretty active, feeding off the top. Trout Magnet jigs and numer 0 gold panther martins both proved productive on trout... the carp and perch were caught off sweet corn weighted to the bottom just past the falls at linear park. Since ive started fishing the I-creek a few years ago i think the number of species you can find in it has grown alot- on top of browns, steelhead and rainbows i see more and more warm water species like bass and pike making the trip upstream... Only downside is in the fall the salmon run is well overfished and alot of snagging goes on =/ Either way, its definately worth making a trip to either linear park or the point where i-creek meets allens creek just by 441... both spots are hugely productive for both trout and salmon (in the fall) and huge fun carp, bass, bullhead, panfish and the odd pike here and there during the summer. Hopefully the fall/winter will see a larger run of salmon, last years was relatively small and beat up compared to years prior, though IMHO the steelhead fishing is only getting better, especially late in the fall when the snow starts flying.
  5. Name: frm03064 Location: rochester I fish for: trout and salmon primarily ================== First time poster on these boards... been scouring the internet for a good site related to fishing in the rochester area and this seems to be the best one out there... probably one of the best resources ive come across... Im lucky to have a job that starts early and ends early, so i often have the entire day to myself to spend fishing. Been at it since i was maybe 3 or 4. I fish mostly from shore, but occasionally from a boat as well... I primarily run with spinning tackle, but occasionally wet fly line too. Trout and salmon in the spring and fall are my main ordeal, but i certainly dont waste the summer months- right now im mostly slamming bass and big carp... Fished pretty much every trib around rochester- mill creek, fourmile creek, slater creek, sandy creek, black creek, the genesee, and my favorite the irondequoit creek... I got a wealth of knowledge id like to share with like minded anglers, and this seems to be a great place to gather some tips and reports on fish activity as well... see you all on the water.
  6. ive tried fishing both the charlotte and summerville sides of river this week... both early morning and midday... Didnt manage to catch a single thing...or even get so much as a bite. The water is still running pretty high and is the muddiest i think ive ever seen it. Id wager that if i cant see a cleo or blue fox 3 inches below the water, a fish probably isnt going to be seeing it either. Ive tried worms and powerbait too...the stink approach if you will... but that didnt even seem to work... Usually even when trout and salmon arent making runs, you can still get into some good walleye, carp, perch, sheepshead or even an occasional smallmouth- but my past few trips out to the mouth of the genny have been totally unproductive. Im thinking about trying the turning point park area further upstream.... ive heard good things about the bass, catfish and walleye being taken down that way. Someone else suggested fishing the summerville pier, but the lake side instead of the genny side. hopefully this isnt a sign of things to come once fall is upon us. I guess the closest alternative to charlotte would be to try the boat channel connecting irondequoit bay and lake ontario... theres a nice long pier at the end of culver rd. in irondequoit, and at the end of lake rd. on the webster side as well... Ive had luck in the past few weeks using small (as in size 0 and 1) spinners off the very end of the pier, both lake and channel sides, bringing in small browns in the 12-14 inch range and decent sized smallmouth and rockbass off crawlers...though id suspect most of these were fish making there way downstream from the irondequoit creek, and are probably out into deeper water by now.
