I can almost guarantee you, if you tangle up that copper with a popped dipsey line ... you'll never do it again. LOL.

Yeah, I run my copper down the chute almost exclusively, but I quickly turned a 300' copper into a 175' copper and shortened a wire line by about the same distance that exact way Tyee mentioned. Just pull out the cutters and start snipping. There is no undoing that mess.

Barring that mess though, I find if we move the copper out to a triple tree when fighting another fish we're usually OK. Sometimes with bigger fish you need to get that copper in ASAP though.

  2. I just read that zinc anodes are for saltwater use only. First time I've heard that. Is that true? Is it a case of shorter life expectancy or complete ineffectiveness or is it complete BS?

    Thanks

  3. I was passing by Webster Park a little while ago and noticed quite a few cars and 4 trucks with tanks on th back in the pier parking lot. The trucks were from the Caledonia Hatchery. I spun around an parked a talked to one of the truck drivers. Driver said they were stocking about 25,000 browns. I didn't think to ask the size but from the tails I saw they looked about 6" maybe. Hopefully they won't get canabalized too bad.

  4. I bought a single owner charter boat about 5 years ago. It was a 1996. Being a charter boat it was well taken care of and I haven't had any problems outside of what would be expected for a boat that age. It has a kicker which obviously kept the hours on the engine and stern drive down. There is good reason for captains to keep their boats in good condition. Plus, they are making money from the boat so I think it is easier to reinvest in maintenance. I'm no expert on used boats so this is all just my personal experience.        Get a new survey no matter what you do. Also, get a survey. If I forgot to mention it, get a survey done.

    Hi LOU Community,

I am working with a close friend at Gates Chili Middle School in developing a fishing club. Currently there are 14 members. Most of the young anglers are interested mostly in bass and perch. If any of you have unwanted tackle that you would like to donate to the group, we would be forever grateful. I can also work a deal out with anyone if I can trade some of my trolling gear for gear for the kids. Thanks in advance for anyone considering donating.

I have some misc stuff, plastics, line, etc. I also have a few spinning reels that I just don't use anymore. They are lower end so to speak but work fine.

  7. We fished the bay yesterday from 7:30 till 11:00. Plenty of action on the small perch all morning. Finally found some good keepers later on our last stop. We caught one and it puked up a couple of 2" alewives. I didn't realize that any alewives spent time in the bays. Never thought that the perch were eating them either. Anyone ever hear of this?

  8. I am listing a Thomas and Thomas fly rod for a friend. She was cleaning out a deceased relatives house and found a Thomas and Thomas 9'6" 8 weight 3 piece fly rod. It was still in package, brand new never used. It had been won at a rod and gun club event years ago. I searched prices on the rod and found that similar rods made by T & T now go for $875.00. I saw one identical to this one on ebay for $500.00. I saw some advertised on the web for way lower but the sites seemed pretty shady to me. Looked more like someone fishing for financial info. I do not know what the rod was valued at when new. I am putting this up on a best offer basis. Ultimately it is not my decision on what an acceptable price would be. I may only offer her some advice on any offers that seem to be extreme low balls. If anyone has any idea what what the fair market value is on these now I am all ears, please PM me. Sorry the pics aren't the best. I didn't take them they were sent to me. Rod is in the Rochester/Irondequoit area. She also has 4 outboards that I will list when I get more info on them. 1 looks like antique. Chrysler Econo Mate 3.5 hp.

Still looking for a Moor probe. Found one but it needs a cap. Pm if you have a probe or a cap you are willing to part with. Cash or trade.

VooDoo, if you search "sub troll probe" on ebay they have them new from Big Blue Enterprises. They run you $200.00 but you should get the break away cable, tape, crimps, etc with it.

  10. Fished the Fair Haven Challenge out of Port bay Saturday. Definitely seemed bigger than the 1-3 that was forecast to me. I was thinking more like 2-4 maybe 3-5 to start. Couldn't buy a fish for the first 2.5 hrs except a couple short bites. Finally found some action around 140fow 100 down. Green Dolphin spinny and green hammer flies and meat on Minion rigs. Rigs were custom made to look as close as possible to the chromeo pattern. (not making the chromeo any more). Looked like we may have a chance at a decent box when we doubled up on a couple screamers. One gets into the down rigger cable that we failed to clear, gone with a new meat rig and a spinny. The other pulls the hook, gone. Not much time left after that and we only had 4 in the box. We decided that it wasn't worth weighing in a 4 fish box in a 6 fish tourney and we would just keep fishing for an LOC fish since the sun came out and the lake laid down. Put a couple more in the boat and called it a day. Good time either way.

yeah I bought just the fall "season" pass. The rule make sense for those buying day passes but it didn't specifically say the rule was just for the day pass. Figured it was safer to ask here then drive 30 mins out of my way to a weigh-station and find out there.

    Oh, I probably misunderstood.

I don't even know why they keep the full season's pass as an option after the spring derby. Good Luck!

If I buy a "season" pass for the fall derby do I need to stop someplace and register each day before I fish?

The season pass covers spring, summer and fall for $110.00. With spring and summer gone just buy the fall pass for $40.00 or you are paying almost triple.

  13. Thanks for the replies. The situation was such that turning to starboard didn't seem like an option at the time. I probably waited too long to make that move. I definitely acknowledge that I was giveway. The radio was undoubtedly the answer. There wasn't any sort of confrontation involved. I think we both sped up at the same time and then tried slowing at the same time and then ran out of time. With no worries about long lines the situation never happens. In trying to be considerate of his lines, I probably made the wrong choice.
