I was in the same area that morning, I have a 16ft center console. There were a ton of fish/bait in pretty close, I was out deeper and got nada and then made a pass in close and got a couple nice silvers off the rigger down 35ft just north of the salt plant but then around 9am the fish just dissapeared, I headed up past you north of Glenora and trolled around for a couple more hrs without a release, it was a nice day to be out though.

My girlfriend got into town late Friday so we didn't make it up to Seneca until midday on Saturday. After some ominous clouds passed we headed out for a sunset "cruise". Set-up in the south end on the west side headed north and she got some practice with the gear pulling in some smaller salmon. I usually run solo and was also practicing with the larger spread of rods. The practice payed off when one of the dispeys (back 200 with a "bloody death" DW SS) went off and she got into a good battle with a nice rainbow. Didn't get a weight but it was the biggest bow I have boated since I started on Seneca last summer. She was very psyched and ready to go out again the next day.

We got an early start on Sunday and headed a little further north up by Starkey Pt. We boated a couple lakers early on and a smaller salmon. Headed south to Glenora and hit a nice pocket of fish including a 8lb laker, a couple nice salmon and another bow. I was really hoping for a brown to finish off the grand slam, but she had a long drive home and we had to get off the water before noon. I think we ended up 7/10 on Sunday. I sent her home with some salmon fillets from a nice 22" silver that took the hook in the eye, otherwise all the fish went back to grow bigger. I was very impressed with myself with my massive 6 rod spread until Reel Stories trolled by with 14 rods out.

We got most fish from 25-55ft over 150-300ft off riggers, lead core and divers. I also broke in the new inline planer (went with the Walleye Board) with the lead core and it worked great and as I was told earlier this week there was no mistaking when it went off! I had set the drag light with the clicker and it worked great for a 3lb salmon.

Tks Nick, that is very helpful. Also good to hear the 10 core produces throughout the season w/o the snap weights. How bad do the fleas effect the leadcore?

I am really liking my new leadcore setup. I have rigged 2 - 8'6" medium actions rods with 27lb 10 color cores with 100yds of braid backing. I had a couple questions though.

1) I have heard people mention running the core off of inline boards. Does anyone have any advice on this setup? How big of a board to run a full core with drop weight? I am new to inline boards so any advice would be great. Also this may be stupid, but how obvious is it when there is a fish on? I am sure a big fish would really pull or sink the board, but what about something in the 2-4 lb range? Do the tattle flags work?

2) As the fish go deeper into the summer, I am planning on adding some drop weights. I bought some offshore drop weight releases (look like little planar board releases), but not sure what to buy for the weights. How big, what shape etc...

Thanks in advance for any info. I am hoping to get out on Seneca this weekend with my girlfriend. I have been showing her pics and bragging of my catches and now she wants to see for herself, the pressure is on.............

Yes, I read about the shop on this forum and stopped in last week on my way to Seneca. They have a great selection of trolling gear, well-suited to the FLs and at reasonable prices. I picked up a bunch of spoons and a few other odds/ends. I asked a about a specific downrigger weight that I couldn't find and they were on the phone ordering before I left. Very refreshing change from the box store experience.

Thanks for all the replies. That fish was down about 25ft over 160ft.

I am not the best at getting out early in the am, but managed to make it out the door at 4:30am and was fishing before 7am (1.25 hr drive + some quick boat repairs). The bite was certainly a little better than my last couple trips which were in the pm. I started on the West side headed north running 2 lines off a port board and a leadcore down the chute. I had a steady enough pick of fish to keep me moving. It was a mix of salmon and browns with a pair of nice 4-5lb browns off the leadcore in the mix along with some shorts.

There was very little breeze early but a nice light south wind kicked in to provide some more cover and with the shallow bite slowing I moved out into slightly deeper water. I was marking lots of fish in the 25-35ft range out over 80-100ft. Just past a productive point, the leadcore bends over deep and starts screaming. As I grab the rod I see a splash 6 colors back and the fish goes on a screaming run through the remaining colors. I am new to the leadcore set-up and as I watched the last color spooling out I was seriously considering (doubting) my core-to-backing knot that I tied a couple weeks back while watching a "how-to" youtube video. With about 2 turns left he finally turned, and before I could relax he started running right at that boat. I furiously reeled to keep up and I finally got him all the way to the leader and once he spotted me he went crazy. He made a deep run under the boat, back up for a nice leap, a run towards my other lines and then finally tired enough to allow me to scoop him up in the net. I knew this was my PBest atlantic and the weight confirmed it, 8.75 lbs!! I know there are even bigger ones out there but I have been trying awhile (3-4 yrs) for a salmon over 8 lbs. I even considered keeping it for a mount, but decided instead to let him go which I feel good about. Now I'll have to aim for the 10lb mark, and if that ever happens its going on the wall!

I am working this weekend so can't participate in the Derby, but I wish everyone good luck! The big salmon today and all the bigger fish I have caught recently have been off NK 28s, chartreuse/blue, down in the 20-40 ft range.

I agree with the depth comments. I can't say I run F/F combos every time I'm out but have had most luck when run deep. I know on Champlain I would have days when nothing else was working and I would drop a grey or green ghost down behind a chrome dodger and boom! I was into fish. Haven't had much luck with spin doctors yet on Seneca but have been trying to get em into the rotation.

I think I was heading out when you were headed in, and I didn't have much more action than you in the afternoon, besides one nice brown and some shaker LLS. Beauty of a day out there though...

Welcome to the site, I am pretty new here as well and lurked for awhile. I agree with you that everyone is very helpful and this site is a great resource. I get lots of new ideas and am always excited to get out and try new things and new areas.
