  1. Joe are you a walleye fisherman, according to Justracytrolling the walleye are a good target also, please post if you do or don't catch anything. He trolls perch lures at night for walleyes, might even pick a musky that way also, as he sometimes has wicked hits at night that tear him off, could be those toothy critters. Good luck, I'd love to hit that lake for a couple of days next year.

  2. I'm thinking of purchasing a Garmin Echo maps 50's, was wondering if anyone on here has this model or knows Garmin. One thing they don't go into great detail is their mapping choices, do the come preloaded with eastern Ontario or are there chips you can purchase from Garmin, or are others compatible. System is sweet and certainly won't crush the bank, I was really impresses with the clarity and smoothness of the chart, of course in sim. mode. only draw back was the person on the phone couldn't answer my question about the maps for eastern Ontario, would like to know is they have the depth contours also. Thanks for any input PAP

  3. We've been talking about it for years. Then a real bad experience at the Canadian border, we said lets keep our money in the states and tried the western basin in the spring, What a trip of a life time. If you never fished Erie for walleye do yourself a favor and try it you will ask yourself why didn't I do this sooner. 30-40 fish a day 3.5# to 6# are common with the 8.5-10# possible. Been out 5 years now. I would like to try the eastern end of Erie, which I'm working on now, hope it pans out!!!

Got dates and charter set up!!!  Charter 1 day and fish the rest of the week out of my boat, then up to the BRBC. Home base for 1 worm. Then fish for walleye another time.

  4. I'm curious why some guys run the big reels for wire.  Your line counter isn't as accurate without a full spool...and the bigger reels are more money.  1,000 ft of wire fills most 30 size reels perfectly.

Since I made the above post about the Depth Master. I got in touch with that Tuna reel repair place or what ever it's called and he had the carbon fiber clutch disks told me to install them, try them let him know how they work, he was the only guy that had all the Depth Masters parts (everything!) WOW what a difference. For $39.00 reel cost + $8.99 for the drags stuff= $47.99 for a decent reel, what do you guys think? is it worth it or not. I have 6 of these reels, 4 DM30 and 2 DM45, and the DM30 does hold 1000ft 7strand torpedo, fills the spool perfect.

  5. I'm buy no means a supporter of west marine, only ever been in the Water Town one looking for a prop I managed to wreck over at Chaumont bay boat launch. West marine was T-total out of their mind!! Ended up in Clayton and got one for 1/3 price

  6. I think the lower unit marine lube might be synthetic and the gallon is probable the run of mill the gear oil  JMO. I run Quick Silver (Merc. replacement) synthetic lube, yea it more$$$ but I can't find a cross-over for it. It's $26.00 every other year so I'm not going to spend to much time trying to save $2.00 Look at the cost of Mobil1 and you will see the price vs. Mobil 5w-30 regular oil

  7. Congrats on the win!!! Sounds like the morning was quite the rip & tear action that makes you think, MAN, there really is a GOD, who would think action like this? Then the old light switch goes OFF, that's when the old thinking cap needs to be put on. What a mess those smallies made, but it paid off in the end GOOD JOB!!!!!!

  8. Why are you leaving NY, for SD. is your family there? sounds like you got a nice family HERE!!, I don't know you, but I did read some of your posts. You speak like a man with prestige, and dignity. Like I said I don't know you and your departure speech certainly hit some soft spots on me, I'm sure the folks you know will have difficulty seeing you off. Take care of yourself and your family and your welcome to come fish my boat anytime, all though we will be seeking mostly walleyes LOL. good luck PAP.

  9. I just can't imagine going for my gear and its GONE!!. Every year we hear about this type of $hit and SKman makes secne, there are 2 types of scumbags out there, druggies who will take anything and the fellow fisherman, who can't afford the higher end gear, and they only take what they want, so they close everything up and act like nothing happened. Still a scumbag!! Hope all is found and returned. Sorry to hear this crap, makes me sick!!!!

  10. Dick's right with checking other things out, my case was I had real bad outer edge wear, I was told bent axle, this & that, so we started measuring around and found that the axle was an 11/2 inches across the corner. Turned out my uncle who also has a lot of trailer experience found the problem turned out the bushings in the springs dry rotted and fell out. 4 new bushings and the same tires are on 3 years later.

  11. Walleye and White tails is what I call Mountain Mans surf & turf, which in my opinion is better than going to Red Lobster. I personally like the 2 strips that are located on the inside of the back bone, we always called them the chicken strips with fresh walleye, some people go through life with out ever eating the best meats god has put on planet earth

  12. wonder why the erie perch go so deep. Our perch in ontario stay shallow.Caught a bunch of 13 in.plus ten feet ot water last week.

id like to go for erie walleye this year .i have a good boat set up but never went and would be better with a someone experienced more in walleye.

Thirty plus years trout and salmon on Ontario.

We've been talking about it for years. 13. Nice bunch of birds, I was wondering what do you do with the meat, I tried many different ways to eat it with not to much success. Finally a guy told me to grind it up and make slim jims, like you would with deer, so I tried it and it turned out really good. My daughters liked it, they are always after me to make jerky, so maybe next time I get one I'll try to make jerky out of it. I personally don't hunt for them, but my brother-in-law hunts for them and they do quite well, it's easy to drop them off at my house and in a week or two pick up your goods, but I enjoy it.

  14. If I drive within 30 minutes, I make an excuse to go there.  I don't travel to the mid-Atlantic coast without planning on a drive thru Hamburg.  Thankfully, It hasn't cost me my house yet.

I live about 1.5hrs from the Hamburg Cabelas!! They don't have all the lake Ontario goods, such as the spoons and flashers that are used up there, the run of the mill stuff they have such as rods, reels, line ect. There is a place opening up in Brodheadsville that's supposed to be the salmon store of the Poconos it's supposed to be the Fat Nancy's of the Pocono's. Time will tell, I was in there for the grand opening and they have a long way to go yet!!. If they do what they claim and the prices are good I will let you guys know, they want to handle Torpedo and other brand names in line such as Flea flicker and releases such as Blacks, Chamberlin and all sorts of spoons and flies, I'll let you know if it is anything. PAP

  15. Nice! Those mood lights on the Yankee really make the girls...I mean salmon jump in for the "ride"!
