  1. If you could keep small ones that don't make it, us Pennsylvanians would keep everything and just claim it was deep hooked. :).

I certainly don't want to start any $hit, but how about when making a statement like that, don't include all of us from PA. I'm sure the locals will frown on (Take them all and don't worry about the future)

  2. My grandson finally arrived and is 22" long so is a keeper. Looking forward to first time I take him fishing!

I'm sure your glad to see him Kevin, when was he born at 22" it wasn't that long ago. They grow up fast, it seems like only yesterday we brought the girls home and last Thurs-Sat. they got to fish the Black River, and next year they will be out on the lake, hopefully make the brown season, as boat is ready but to late in the year to tow up and in a few weeks tow home, not to mention Sept. 9 I go for back surgery again. Next year we will be ready to hit the lake both the boat and me. Take care and enjoy your bundle of joy and before you know it you will be purchasing his firs rod and reel, I'm sure grand pa. won't spoil him to much LOL. PAP.

  3.

We have done some tests with wire divers on #3 settings and here are the results.

    Wire Diver 2mph 2.2mph 2.5mph 3mph #3 setting depth depth depth depth 100' line out 36 34 32 28 200' line out 56 54 53 49 300' line out 60 58 57 53

Thanks Matthew I am going to wright those numbers in my little book of notes, one thing I was wandering what kind of wire were you using and what # test was it (7 strand-19 strand or something else?)

  4. Hi Pap - I see you got an elite 7 and were not happy with it. I have an elite 5 and was wanting to upgrade to the larger elite 7. Do you plan to replace the elite 7, and if so is yours available for sale? Is this the GPS/sonar combo model? Thanks!

FleetTracker I don't want to sound snooty, but I wont sell this piece of $hit to anyone I know or someone that is looking for a good finder, it has been back to Lowrance twice and they know it's a problem and want to work with me on a HDS7. I bought it from Cabelas and they told me I could return it in trade for what ever I choose, they have the Furuno I want, of course I have to shell out a few more bucks but that's the rout I'm going to take. I'd be foolish to pass that up, not to mention all the migraine pills you will need if I sold this unit to you, I don't want to be the red headed step child in your eyes.

  5. CONGRATS on your first king, and your sons smile is priceless also, I remember the first one we caught I didn't have all the info from this site to help us, so it was like high fives and hand shakes, we finally did it!! we forgot all about the fish in the net it was crazy for a while. I'm sure it was like that for you. Good going!!!

  6. Someone mentioned where are the walleye, I know personally of a catch that came out of Henderson, that consisted of 7 walleye ranging from 6.5 to 12.75 lbs that was caught on Friday. The guys cleaned their fish in the Black River Bay camp grounds as we were cleaning ours, that came out of the Black River, I had my twin girls with age 8 and they had a blast of course our catch of 9 walleyes ranging from 20.5 to 24 inches didn't hold a candle stick to the guys out of Henderson, I got to show my girls that's what walleyes look like when they grow up, they were just in aw, and couldn't believe the size, I told them next year when I bring up our (big) boat we will catch the big ones also (hopefully)

  7. I bought a Lowrance Elite 7, the biggest mistake I ever made. I had so many problems I can't even remember what was the first one, they don't have enough memory to run a decent card, like one that has depth contours, and you can't zoom in enough to see what depth your in on the chart, of course you have your depth finder so you know what depth water your in. They only accept the mini cards. They claim it's user friendly, but with POOR instructions, you better play with it a while before heading out on the water or you will be disappointed and aggravated with it not to mention totally confused and you fishing trip will be consumed with the finder and not fishing, if your gps works right you might be out of the knowledge of your ground speed. Mine is coming off my boat and I'm getting a fish finder and a separate gps so when one pukes I still have one or the other not totally out of commission. Probably going with a Furuno fish finder and I don't know yet what for chart plotter.

  8. I forgot to mention that we went on a cruse around the thousand Islands on Saturday and crossed into Canadian waters and the captain was telling us what you have go threw, it sounded like it wasn't worth it if you didn't have all your ducks in a row, they made it sound like the fines and confiscation of your boat and take you to their customs where you will go through a vigorous one on one talk with  a Canadian border patrol officer, and if you pass you get to walk back to the good ol USA. He made it sound that it isn't worth it and I agree.

  9. I can tell you first hand they DO enforce the DWI game, we went to Canada fishing for a week and my uncle had a DWI back 15 years ago and they made him buy a (or return to the USA) 7 day visa which cost $200.00 and he had to be back at customs at a certain time, and the visa cost was not refundable, just another gimmick for those Bastards to get in your pocket. After that episode and a lot of other things they did to us I will never step foot in that country again. Been going to Canada for over 20 years and that trip was my last.

  10. fbg14619, if you launched at Dexter then there are 3 islands the first one is in the first turn you can see it from the launch the second one is about 3/4 down the river and the 3rd is directly behind the second one, there was one on the right, and now it's marked buy bouys , then your in the channel going out into the bay.

  11. Kevin my story doesn't hold a candle stick compared to your catch!!! way to go and congrats to you, you definitely had a day on lake O you will never forget GOOD FOR YOU!!!  when we got in to clean our walleye there were a bunch of guys, One guy had a Black River Bay Campgrounds Tee shirt on, those guys had our attention they had a 7 walleye the smallest one weighed 8.5 lbs and the rest were bigger this was the biggest box of walleye I ever saw in my life, after reading your story I thought it might have been you? there was 4 guys, so I showed Emily your picture and she doesn't think that was you at Black River. We had a nice catch to eat but those guys had wall hanger walleye and they were filleting them so I think they do well often, they didn't seem to excited, I would have been going nuts if I would have such a catch, that catch and yours were amazing congrats to the both of you. PAP. PS. I asked where they caught them and my answer was (out in the big water) I should of known better.

  12. Took my two daughters up to the camper Thursday - Sat. I didn't bring my Sea Ray as it was just the three of us, used my uncles boat 16ft (mister musky). Got out on the river around 7.30 and headed down to the snake pit last island on the river, little cove on the right caught 3 right off the bat their first smallies, they were shocked at hard they fight and jump out of the water, really cool dad!!! Moved up to the split and managed a few more, the fishing slowed down a little so I had a chance to make a few casts and managed a 20.5 inch walleye, they never saw a walleye so that was neat for them, made another cast and another walleye, this time I handed the pole to Emily and she landed her first walleye. Now they want to fish for walleye so Got out the trolling rods and inline boards and let out 75ft of line and hooked up first board then commenced to get Elizabeth set up 100ft back hooked board up with an lure not sure what it is green on top bright orange on bottom with loud rattles and Emily had a small purple on top and yellow bottom hot & tot we managed a one man ticket with 2 nice small mouths in 4 hours girls had a blast and dad couldn't have been more proud of them!!!   Day 2 we were on the water 7am with same program hit one right away with the hot & tot, but Elizabeth's hot lure was not to hot this day so I rigged up a small wiggle wart green on to and bright red on bottom, the girls managed 9 walleyes ranging from 19.5 to 24 inches with 4 passes on the river we had no luck trolling down river for some reason, so I ran down the side and set up for a up stream troll. So hopefully I have 2 walleye junkies till it won't be cool to hang with dad. PAP

  13. Can you hear where the knocking sounds are coming from, such as the front of the motor, back meaning the flywheel (starter ring gear) or the out drive, sounds to me like a wrist pin knock, if from the engine which just happens, one day nothing the next what the hell is that knocking sounds, but without pin pointing the sound we are all guessing. PAP.

  14. That power minnow is a great walleye producer in the Black River, dad and I picked them up when there was a sporting goods store in a drug store in Water Town (forgot the name Fays maybe?) they were in the bargin box, we got 4 of them and we back trolled up the Black River dad had the power minnow and I was running a jr thunder stick and  was catching one walleye after another, so I switched to that lure it was a dark green on top lime green in the middle and a bright orange bottom with rattles, at time we had doubles on, we caught a one man ticket with just 2 passes, since we lost all of them to large pike I couldn't find that same lure.

  15. CASH ONLY, we are not set up for credit cards

That's the way to fly an airline anyway, I have been in business for over 25 years now, and the only reason I got a credit card machine was I do work for Penn Dot and townships and they will only pay with a corporate card, and now I've found that a lot more people pay with plastic than cash :(  one more headache and paper work, not to mention uncle Sam can track all your actions :lipssealed:   It will increase sales as no one has cash anymore, it's tough anymore as a small business man the good O'L days are gone, hope the best for you as sometimes down sizing is the right thing to do, run the show with your self as the only employee Good Luck PAP.

  16. Tie the front of the bag to a cleat 2/3rds of the way to the bow.  Tie a teather line to the back of the bag and put it on a cleat directly above the end of the bag (or as close as you can get) so it keeps it from swinging under the boat.  This line can be used to dump the bag when you want to bring it in.

Thank you GAMBLER for your expertise in how to run the sea bags. Thanks again PAP.

  17. That is great, mom and a real nice salmon, and a nice pic. with all 3 of you together. Sometime our moms get under our skin but they are usually right, the OL'saying moms usually right, or listen to YOUR Mother she is right, how many times did we hear that in our life time . Enjoy every moment you have with her as we all know they won't be with us forever. Trust me I know!!! I would give just about anything for one day with mom or dad. Nice going keep mom in the picture. PAP.

  18. I have 2-28" bags and one 36" bag.  Usually one or two of the smaller bags will get me down to 1.4 to 1.5.  I run a boat very similar to yours.  Tie them more forward on the boat and make sure you put another line to hold the bag at the side of the boat.  If the bag is wandering off to the side or under the boat, you will steer all over the place.

Thanks GAMBLER I think I get the picture  your info is what I've been looking for those numbers are perfect. And I will be certain to tie the bags front and back. thanks. PAP.

  19. Pete that's a awesome looking laker, sounds like you had a good day despite the wind and getting circled like a bunch of sharks, years ago we used to jig for lakers up in Canada over 100FT of water with buck tail jigs, usually bright yellow jig with tinsel tail, blue & silver caught them up to 20#s like that, never gave it a thought for lake O. Keep up the good work and keep us posted with your catches, I find that very interesting. Thanks PAP

  20. Do you guys think using only one bag will correct my wandering problem? Does it pull you to the side with only one bag? I was thinking about running 2 smaller bags? what do you guys think Sorry for all the questions but I want to get this right the first time, since it took me 2 years to get this hunk of $hit together and running right one more hurdle and I'll be ready to hook some fish!!!!

  21. OK, now that I've decided to go with Sea Bags, to correct my steering/wandering around at troll speed what size bags should I get. I have a 22FT. Sea Ray Cudddy with a 350 Mercruiser and pre alpha1 outdrive. I would like to get down to 1.8mph and be able to reach 2.75.mph. right now I'm more interested in the salmon speeds so like 2.4mph and up. Thank you for all your help on my other post and any more help here. PAP!!

  22. Some  deep vee boats just seem to wander a little to port and starboard at slow speeds, nothing wrong with the steering or outdrive and not caused by wind or waves.  I always said it was because the boats are female and can't make up their minds which way they want to go :) .  You constantly are trying to correct this by counter steering which sometimes just makes it worse, can be aggravating particularly in tight channels and makes it difficult to relax when driving.

My Penn Yan wasn't too bad and I installed a Wander Fin mainly because a corner of my cavitation plate was broken off on my outdrive and the fin covers that up which helped me to justify the cost.  However the fin definitely improved the handling characteristics at slow speeds.  This problem disappears once you throttle up a little or put in your trolling bags.  Some boats wander more than others

You are spot on with my problem, if adding sea bags doesn't solve the problem the Wander fin is going on in the spring!! Thanks for the heads up on the Wander Plate!!!!
