  1. lol you still havnt pulled the trigger yet ADK1?

I don't understand why one would say no to dsi if you never used it? I think it has it's places, for walleye, and bass I think it's nice to have. If you are mainly fishing salmon, then it won't serve it's purpose. We many times switched from salmon to walleyes and some times fished smallies where if you have the option to use dsi than by all means use it. For an extra $100.00 it seems foolish not to get that option, once you have it you will find your self using it more than you think. JMO.

  2. I have looked into them. My research has told me to stick with the base unit. I am looking into them and will get the standard GPS//Finder unit.

Thanks Adk1, I think that's what I'm going to do, I really didn't see a need for the dsi, I'm from the old school and this unit is such an improvement from my old unit which was a Humming Bird 727 about 10 years old, I was blown away with the Elite 7, the screen was so much bigger and a lot clearer, being able to split screens just amazing, can't wait to bolt the new one in and go fishing!!PAP.

  3. My Elite 7 crapped out on me and Cabelas wants to make good on the unit, I really like the elite 7, I purchased the HDI, but I really don't see a need for the DSI. I really didn't get a chance to use it much, before it just wouldn't power up, then when not in use it would power up on it's own, leaving me with dead batteries, if I didn't turn battery selector to off, which I should do all the time, (lesson learned) but wouldn't have found the power up on it's own malfunction, anyway I think I'm going to just get the base unit with the 83/200, which is cheaper, I read the other posts and it seems like others aren't liking the dsi either, I fish for walleyes and mostly out on the big O for lakers and salmon. I'm Looking for other opinion on the dsi mode Yes or NO I have to make a decision soon, so NEED some HELP!!!! Thanks pap.

  4. Not since I bought it three years ago. Is the reason it only over heats when it is in gear is because its under load. Pretty happy it's most likely a impeller. Replaced all electrical components one year after I bought it, that got expensive fast.

Might of had crap covering the water intake ports, usually there are 3 screws holding the screen looking plate below the cavitation plate take them off make sure no black pieces of rubber aren't blocking the intake, witch also means the lower unit water pump is shot, not that bad of a job, like SK8man said most likely water pump is bad, don't run motor hot!! that will cost way more than a $50.00 water pump kit! :(

  5. Mine went this year too as well as the impeller....what ever happened to the old motors that you just got in the boat and drove only worrying about going into shallow water and shearing off a pin?

Yea, I hear ya, I guess those days are gone, the days when life was simple and the every day stuff you could fix your self are gone, with all the new and improved items they put on these boats fail way sooner than the old stuff, can't prove it better in my book (wallet) :sweating:

  6. Yes JOE is right I had the same thing happen to me last year now I have a new problem with my trim this year

    1990 40 hp mercury tiller

First my trim started a acting up and jus Beening slow going up and down. So last year I changed the fluid and it worked fine, but this year it started being slow again and when I looked at the fluid and it must be leaking because there's water mixed in, now the trim isn't working at all so I'm not sure if I have two problems

    1 electrical

    1 leak

Or if the leak has caused all the problems and now it's not working because of lack of pressure any tips would be appreciated

I had the same problem last year, mine wouldn't trim down on it's own, if someone pushed on the outdrive it would go down and work until you trimmed all the way up, then same thing. Then I noticed that on the one trim cylinder there was a flat washer and a O ring sliding around on the shaft, not all together like the other one, so I took it off and took it to the marina down the road from me and told him what is going on and he said that water is getting in the cylinder and causing unequal pressure causing resistance in the cylinder, since the wiper O ring and wiper clip was outside of the holder, the end cap was shot and that cost 2/3rds of a new cylinder, I got a new cylinder put it on bled the system and problem solved, sounds like you might have the same problem, he also said the packing inside the cylinder might be letting the fluid to bypass inside also creating a problem, not letting the cylinder to operate correctly, ether way I put a new one on and problem solved. Hope this helps PAP

  7. I have a 1982 Sea Ray weekender  and I completely rebuilt everything from ground up and I was told to use the synthetic 80-90 wt, which appears like 30wt, I used Amsoil. I know that stuff runs a lot cooler, because when my uncle had dirt modified race cars, and we went to change ring&pinion you needed gloves on to handle the parts with just 90wt gear oil, with Amsoil, you could take the rear apart without the use of gloves, it was that cool. That sold me, and when it came time to do my boat I knew what I was going to use, no matter what the manufacture said. There wasn't such a thing out in 82. So that is my story and I'm sticking to it. Hope this helps PAP.  PS. I used the same 80/90wt for the upper and lower unit. It's a 5.7 bored 30 over with 10-30 Amsoil in crankcase and 80-90wt amsoil on out drive, and it shifts like a new one , absolutely no grinding, just slips into gear. GREAT stuff IMOP.

  8. WOW, what a fish, It's a trophy of a life time, and to have JR. with you is just priceless!!! His smile is from ear to ear, what a memorable day, such Pictures and stories makes me miss my dad a lot, but HEY, this is your day, thanks for sharing your picture and story with us on LOU. PAP. PS. was that fish caught in the states???

  9. Man, that sucks, a man works hard to get all that equipment together and then have it ripped off, I would be pissed!!!!  WE WILL keep our eyes and ears open for you, I live in the Poconos of pa. But know a lot of people, will keep an eye out. craigslist, ect. sorry to hear such crap!! Things are bad out there guys, trust no one, Take all your valuables out of the boat, these drug induced pieces of crap don't care about you or anything else, I know it's a lot of extra work, but in the long run it will save you time and money. PAP.

  10. We stay out of Canadian waters anyways....

That is a fact Trophy, I don't care if I ever step foot on that worthless country again :mooning:  After what they pulled on us 10 years ago at the boarder, that was it for me, We did nothing wrong and they detained us for over 6 hrs at the boarder, stripped our trucks, and boats, left everything on the side walks couldn't charge us with anything, buy they stole my video camera and tried to get us on worm bedding mat. thank GOD, I had some with me to add later in the trip, so I had proof with the bag, or they were going to confiscate or flat of worms, we lost our deposit with the rooms we rented for the night, they were closed till we got there :shake: Who ever heard of a motel closing at 1am, supposed to be there around 8pm, no cell service, can't call and explain what's up, so those bastards took our money and ran, slept in the vehicle and on to our destination   Had a good week of fishing, and only allowed one days catch to bring back so that's what we did, left a 1"x1" patch of skin on fillets for Id. when we got back to the boarder they asked if we had fish to declare and we said yes, WELL that's when all hell broke loose, Quebec laws and Ontario laws are different as how many allowed in possession. Quebec was 8 and Ontario was 6, we told them and showed the our license which was a Quebec one, no one knew what the right amount was so they started writing us fines, that's when I lost it and demanded a Quebec warden to clear this up, so the contacted someone and found out we were right. I told the Commander I've  been coming to this country for 25years with 10 guys at a grand a piece, this is my last trip to your country EVER :ninja: Since that time on we stay in the states, Ohio for walleyes and New York the rest of the year.

  11. Welcome aboard, The lake as we all known from years ago has changed a lot, many different methods to catch fish, keep an eye on the posts and don't be afraid to ask questions, many knowledgeable folks on this site that will help you out. Good luck to you and your retirement. Tight lines to you and be safe! PAP

  12. Called Henderson Marina and all of their cabins are already rented for next year's memorial day holiday (surprising!).  Ended up booking a cabin with Bedford Creek Marina which is next to Westcott Beach State Park. Staying for 7 days 8 nights next year...

I'm sorry Henderson didn't pan out for you, :( Buy I'm glad you got something anyway, at least you can have a piece of mind knowing that you got a place to stay for next year. We always rented the cabins in the off season, after the camp ground closes for the year, maybe that's why we never had a problem getting a room. Tight lines to you for the rest of the season, and next year. PAP

  13.  Tugger, you won't be disappointed, the places are clean and tidy. Go over to the marina and ask to look at the cottages and they will let you take a look and then ask what's the price per night and ask if you could put a money down on the dates you want to stay, so to say reserve your cabin, that's what we did, and they had no problem with that, they are great people to deal with, and I think the docks were $10.00 extra a day, then you can walk right out of your cabin and get in your boat and head out on the lake, it's really nice, and they have a good tackle shop right there also and helpful with what's is the going system because lots of charters go out of Henderson. Hope this pans out for you. PAP.

  14. Why don't you look in to Henderson marina, they rent cottages and they have a house and a trailer, we stayed in their cottages and the price was like $25 or $35 a night with all the sheets and towels included, have fridge, stove, heat, airco all you need is food and beer, they have docks everything, we liked it or you could look into the Staiff out fit they also have room rentals. PAP   PS. Henderson has cable TV also that's included.

  15. I haven't been on the water in 2 years but, ;(  on the Black River and in the bay they were getting right out of control, I've been boarded by the USCG, Jefferson County Sheriff DEP. Or who ever and what ever, it was so bad sometimes the same guys 2-3 times a day. Finally I had enough and said can't you see or remember well, they said don't get smart, :headbang:  I said this is the 3rd time you 3 clowns boarded this boat and gave me a clean bill to sail!!! then they gave me a emblem to put on each side of the boat, and from that time on I never got pulled again. I also told them one more time and I'm going to your superior and file a harassment charge, I only get up once in a while and half my day is going over the same stuff, this sucks and I have had enough of you guys, all the while they got me tide up, I saw people flying buy in a no-wake zone and all kinds of monkeys doing dumb stuff, and don't forget your lines are out they drove over our lines and got them wrapped around their props. I had to cut everything off and start over, I laughed when he tried to cut the wire rods, he was getting pissed, and I just stood their I wouldn't help the jerk!! :mooning:  I plan on getting up in a few weeks, so we will see what happens, because I have a new to me boat, 22ft Sea Ray cuddy I've been working on her for a year and a half, she is sweet(to me)  I did a shake down run on a local lake and just doing some finals, then the trip to the Black River Camp Grounds, where we have a camper, I usually trailer out to Henderson to the public launch, or I'll put in at Trudys bait shop in Dexter to fish the river or the north shore towards Chaumont Bay. So new face on the water maybe I'll get the once over again?? :punch:

  16. Boy, have I got a boat ramp story for you!!! We were up in Canada fishing on White Fish lake, where we stayed in cabins for a week, this lake was to have small mouth yellow perch and of course Walleye, well after the first day of catching 4" perch and 6" smallies and no walleye, the lake wasn't that big we knew we've been taken by the French once again :headbang: So we decided to see if we could get on the Gatineau river that's supposed to be good for walleye, we found a ramp to the river, but it went down hard and was full of sand, we had 3 trucks/trailer/boats, 2 trucks were 4wheel drive 1 wasn't. I locked my truck in 4wd and of course go first, no problem 2nd 4wd my buddy backs down no problem, but we both slid a little, so I said to my uncle, lets unload my boat and trailer and I'll back your boat down, well his fishing buddy, stubborn old dutch man said to me so nasty :punch:  (we don't got to go through all that horse sh\t I'll guide you back just get it down here) he says this to my uncle, and he was leery of doing it also, so down they come Clark giving Dave hand signs left/right when all of a sudden the whole shi//en works take off down the hill gaining speed backwards Dave just can't control the whole rig and Clark 80 some years old can't get out of the way fast enough gets pinned between the concrete wall, which was on the left and the boat and trailer, truck, trailer is jack knifed in the middle of the ramp, a piece of angle iron is through Clarks leg and the boat, transom corner is in his chest, and he can't breath, bleeding like hell, Dave can't move the truck away from the wall to get Clark out. So I unhook my trailer and hook on Dave's  truck and slowly pull the whole mess away and the guys grab Clark and tie a tourniquet around his leg, and take him to the nearest hospital 50 miles away, around 1oclock in the morning they return with Clark. No broken bones, just stitches were the angle went threw and bruised chest bones, hand full of pain pills and we fished the rest of the week. What a trip :swear:

  17. Thanks guys, I found it, must be all these pain pills from my crash of the second story of my house, I was pressure washing it and the extension ladder took off and I decided to ride it out, jumping to the right or left would have been worse than ridding the storm out, so we smashed down against the airco. box where my legs went through the rungs of the ladder and bent the wrong way Ouch, then the recoil of the ladder hitting the airco, catapulted me backwards, where I laid till the wife and kids got to me, I must have been out, because I don't remember anything after the ladder hit the airco pump. So here I sit with 2 screwed up legs, and pain beyond your wildest dreams!!! till next time tight lines to all. PAP.

  18. How do you get the smiley faces and other funny things, like the beer can, thumbs up ect. to come up and put into the post, I used to have that option but I lost it how and where to find them. Is it under post options emoticons? Any help would be great thanks PAP.

  19. Great job on catching fish, the kids don't care what they are as long as their is action!! I have twin girls they are 8 years old and love to fish off dads boat, they don't care what's on the hook as long as it's a fish, and the lakers make for easy targets, so they stay content and that's the main thing, you can't pry them off the water when we are catching fish lakers smallmouth even gobies. It's a great feeling to share with your kids, and hopefully as time goes on they will still say interested, till the boyfriend thing starts, not looking forward to that yet, but it will be before I know it, till then they are definitely dads girls, and I'd like to keep it that way!!! Great job on taking the kids fishing, many more memorable fish days with the kids & dad. PAP.

  20. Great job Rick, I know all to well about jetting skunked in the ocean, never again!!! out there your just a number if you don't get anything it sucks to be you, that's their attitude where charter captains on the great lakes care about their clients!! We went to western lake Erie and took a charter the first day we were out and killed the walleye, back in at 11am with a 6 man ticket, learned a ton of info, and the next few days took our own boats out and did rather well. I would recommend taking a charter just for the knowledge of the area and what type of presentation is working, it's worth every penny!! I'm sure you put a different thought in those folks mind about fishing the BigO verses the salt water!! Well done PAP

  21. My hat goes off to all who participated in the search for Chris Dennis. We were at camp this weekend which is 3 lots away from where Chris took his final canoe ride. We watched so many local and state agencies and local charter captains search through some of the nastiest conditions Mother Nature puts on Cayuga. It was very nice to see all the efforts to bring this 22 year old back to his family. Lets all hope he turns up and gives closure to his family and searchers.

Sorry to hear about such a tragedy on a special day, heart goes out to the family and close friends. PAP

  22. Quote my wife..."you know I still love you even though we disagree on the trolling speed."

I find that funny also, I know when my wife goes along were going to catch fish, I don't know what the heck it is but when she goes the fish jump in the boat and just throw whatever overboard and it works. Take your buddies out, yea we killed the here yesterday (with wife) and can't move a rod, what's up with that. It's happened to many time to say it's just a woman thing. She doesn't like to go often so I can't keep her on board every time out. Darn!!!
