  1. Thanks for the tip. Perhaps we'll make it out Monday and turn right out of the channel this time instead of left!
  2. Was out at Oakville today. Was slow and the boats scattered. Had a few chinook but nothing large. The persistently stormy weather has made them less predictable that's for sure. You'll catch fish though just don't be afraid to fish deep for them.
  3. Thanks for letting me know. All forecasts are calling for a windy and rough day - getting worse as the day progresses. We'll head on out once things settle down a bit. Thanks again for the info and checking this morning on your way to work... don't work too hard!
  4. Decided against going as I said. Small craft warning for tomorrow morning. It's really weird. Waves are "nf" up to Thursday morning at which point a small craft warning is out (according to one marine forecasting website). Likely would go if it were just to two of us, but as we're bringing a colleague of mine we're going to pass and go early next week. Thanks again for the info. Out of curiosity, I'd like to know what it is like tomorrow at 7am on your commute to work. If you don't mind.
  5. Meeting my colleague at 5:45am near Guelph. Meeting my partner in crime with the boat at Bronte and QEW at 6:15am. That was the plan originally. Don't really want to wait until 7 to leave. That wouldn't put us on the water until 8:30 or so and right in the zoo of commuter traffic. I doubt we'll make it out tomorrow. Environment Canada just upped the wave forecast to 1-1.5m waves. Even if they're 50% on the heavy side that's a bit much for a 17' boat considering the first-time fisherman coming aboard. Again, greatly appreciate the feedback. I'm going to see what the forecast is come 9pm but as of now we're likely Toronto-Maple-Leaf'd (screwed).
  6. My only concern is for the forecasts given: http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/marine/forecast_e.html?mapID=11&siteID=08207 They're calling for a NE wind at 20 kts. Meanwhile Windfiner is calling for NE at 5 or 6: http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/burlington_piers Not sure what to do. Normally it'd be a wake-up and make a decision then, but not really an option. Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated. I'll wait and see how the weather/forecast plays out tonight. If we do head out I'll be sure to let you know how it goes and what the temperature profile is like. All the best.
  7. Heading out tomorrow morning but getting mixed reports of what to expect. Environment Canada has a strong wind warning in effect (waves one meter) while Wind Finder is only calling for 7 knots or so (waves 0.5m or less). How close do you live to the lake? Is she still rough and miserable from yesterday's storm? We're taking a colleague of mine out who hasn't been fishing since they were very little. Don't want to take them out when it's all rough and no fun.
  8. Only ever fished for them in Erie. There are some big ones out of Port Burwell. It's a bit of a pain in the arse to launch from though.
  9. Thanks for all the tips guys. Ran one rigger at 130'+ and one at 100' today with no tangles. Between moving the clip from the fin to above the cannon ball and bending the fins of the cannon balls ever so slightly they tracked like a charm! Appreciate all the help!
  10. tyeetamer, thanks for the tip on 200 fow in the west part of the lake. Had a good day today. Got into some great rainbows and one fat coho. No chinook. Hit 50-150' down where it went as cold as 50F or so. Appreciate the tip! They all swam away for you to catch next time you're out.
  11. We have a thermometer we toss on the cannon ball to check temp but no speed probe. What direction was the current going lately? We'll likely fish between Bronte and Port Credit...
  12. Hey that's not too bad! 200fow out of Bronte? Keep me posted how today went... hopefully the storm doesn't send that cold water elsewhere.
  13. We were at the Bluffs Wednesday as I said. We have 10lb balls I think. Only 150' of cable... that was before we had to repair the one. We may be tapped out at 130' down. Going to give the west end of the lake a burst on Monday. May run just the one rigger. Also, Kingsway was out of flea-flicker line and given we run 17lb mono, if we get a good fish on on Monday it could make for an interesting fight! You heading out at all over the next few days?
  14. Hahaha. We don't enter the derby. Strictly catch-and-release everything anyway. Only difference with the derby being on/off for us is the number of boats in the water and the wait at the launch! So we try to stick to non-weekend fishing...
  15. Where were you fishing? I'm likely hitting up the Bronte/Oakville area in a few days.
  16. He was saying he'd pull lines and go walleye fishing. I've also found there to be some amazing schools of bait fish. I wonder at times with so much food around it makes it all the more difficult to find hungry fish!
  17. I was out on Wednesday and tossed a thermometer on the cannon ball. It was 60F 100' down. It may not be the most accurate but it's a rough gauge. My guess is go 20+' beyond that.
  18. Where did you launch? Was about at the Bluffs that same day with similar results. Fished 06:00-13:00 and went 1/3 with a nice rainbow.
  19. Google has them! Just add bathymatry to the end of whatever lake you're looking for. So for Lake Ontario google image search of "Lake Ontario Bathymatry" gives you...
  20. Down 100-130? Wow. This warm summer has really sent them deep. Nothing after 9am either eh? We may hit up the Bluffs Wednesday or Thursday. You heading out at all before the weekend?
  21. I meant to ask you, when you head back from the Bluffs down the 407 do you get sent a bill if you don't have a transponder? I've heard from some that you don't and from others that you do when you're towing a trailer.
  22. Agreed. If you can hit Toronto before 6am you're generally okay. Drive back is always a coin toss - we don't generally take the 407. But it does have a nice ramp, and free parking during the week before 5 too. It wasn't until last summer we started fishing the western-most part of the lake. It has been hit-or-miss but always better than being at work! Looking like some calm days ahead, may be getting out this weekend or early next week. Let me know how you fare if you get out at all.
