  1. yeah, lakeshore is closed for the Indy.....traffic will be a nightmare down there this week. DOn't know if you've ever been there but fishermen's pier under the skyway is a better launch and closer if you are coming from guelph. just take hwy 6 to 403 to QEW niagara exit Eastport Drive...cross the liftbridge and it's on you right. $12 to launch...ice...tackle....snacks...porta potties...fenced parking and a GOSD scale. Only a 10 min run to Bronte...although you will probably find fish before you get there. The Big Brown apartments just west of bronte known as Mcissacs akmost always holds fish from 40-200 fow. good stuff dude.thanks for sharing. We've launched out of there this summer. It certainly is the closest. It was a zoo when we went to come back in though - gotta love weekend fishing. Likely didn't help that the guy who was due to back his trailer up and take his rig out of the water took his 4 kids to the bathroom and just left his boat there holding up a line of about 6 boats. Have you ever fished down at the Bluffs?
  2. Didn't end up getting out to Erie. Forecast took a turn for the worse. We decided to go back to Ontario. Was going to the Bluffs but then hit traffic bad in Mississauga despite leaving at 5am. Ended up launching Oakville area. She had some big waves out there today but ended up making out not too bad. The funniest part was when we pulled lines one of our lures had not one, but two baitfish on it. I'm not talking snagged them while trolling but they clearly attacked it as the trailing treble hook had both of their lips hooked. Quite funny and not something you see everyday. They reminded me a lot of what you use for live bait when you're tarpon fishing in Bonita Beach.
  3. Thanks for the update. In hindsight we should have went to Erie. We may head out there on Friday. Either launch from Burwell as you did or Turkey Point and head out to the lighthouse. It's a long ways out but there's a deep hole out there... 200 fow or so.
  4. Where did you launch out of? We're going to hit the water tomorrow...
  5. Right on may just do that. Looks like we'll either do the Bluffs Monday or Burwell. Basically go by the winds as to when/where and Monday is shaping up to be a better day in that sense. Have a good Canada day Kris.
  6. Another good point. You all are a wealth of knowledge! We're going to try a few things next time we head out. I'll let you know how they pan out. Thanks again!
  7. Are you coming from Guelph (as per your last post on the Bluffs)? I live in Guelph and my partner in crime lives down Erie way. If you see a white and blue Wilker out there give us a wave.
  8. Thanks I think we are heading out to Burwell on Sunday. Going to give that a burst. Given the long weekend not really in the mood for dealing with Toronto traffic and pompous yachts on Lake Ontario. How deep were you getting them?
  9. I noticed you mentioned Erie. We've been meaning to get out there. Where abouts do you head out in Erie? What depths etc. and what do you target? I've heard there are some nice rainbow out there.
  10. Never thought of that. Something to keep in mind. I feel like we mainly troll with/against the waves (thus with/against the wind). I'll certainly keep that in mind and will be sure to lower down the riggers slowly from here on out. Thanks!
  11. Noticed this forum has gone quiet compared to months passed... everyone keeping to themselves with the derby around the corner? *jokes* Haven't had much luck the last few times out. Hit everything from 80-360 fow fishing surface-110' down. Got a few each day but mostly small stuff and very scattered. Couldn't find a zone to consistently get fish (depth or lure depth). We'd get one 60' down then get the next one on the surface. Water temp on the surface was within a couple degrees of 70 yet looking for them at 80' turned up nothing. All we got on deep riggers was a few fish on the slider. Not sure where all the nice kings disappeared to. Anyone got their tracking device locked in?
  12. Thanks for the comments guys. The riggers are on the back of the boat pointed out each side... they're a good 10-15' apart when we send them down. I also thought of the fins being bent, I've switched them once already. I'm considering bending them slightly opposite to each other so they'll tow outwards a bit. Lastly, thanks for the tip on loading them heavy. We generally load them pretty good especially when they are deep. We'll lighten up their load and try that next time. Thanks for the feedback gentlemen.
  13. We are trolling 2-2.5mph normally and we have 10lb cannon balls. Surprisingly we never had this problem with the 8lb ones...
  14. Anyone have any advice? Got two new cannon balls over the winter and we're running into problems where the downrigger cables are tangling when both lines are 70'+. Anyone have any advice? Would bending the cannon ball fins a bit (one in each direction) help?
  15. So the sea lice/fleas were out in full swing today. Making a mess of things. What are they called formally? I want to look up what those pesky buggers physically are besides golden clumps of junk on my line...
  16. It's been better from what I understand. At least in the area of the lake I fish.
  17. It's actually been quite nice here until the past week or so. Check this website, it has records of surface temperatures and is updated a few times a day. Lake Ontario Surface Temperatures
  18. Agreed. It spoils the thrill when you see them go belly up despite your best efforts at revival. Either of you guys put siwash hooks on body baits such as Lymans? We put some 2/0s (front) and 3/0s (rear) on and I guess we'll find out this week how they go. Also trying something crazy next time out (we tend to make a habit of that with mixed results)... I'll keep you posted.
  19. Just swapped most of our spoons over to siwash hooks to decrease the stress and injuries on fish we catch since we release them all. Testing out some siwash hooks on Lymans as well. Anyone else converted their arsenal over?
  20. Never did end up testing it out. We'll likely be launching out of Bluffer's Park for the foreseeable future but next year may head to Foran's.
  21. I like your choice of lure! They're great especially if you're new since they're very forgiving. You can go a wide range of speeds and they still look good. We got out today too got into a few including the biggest one I've caught in awhile. Good ol' Ripplin Red Fin on that one too. Good luck in your future outings.

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: After Schools ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 20 May 2012 Time on Water: 4.5h Weather/Temp: 25C+ Wind Speed/Direction: Nil Waves: Nil (Glass) Surface Temp: 55-57F Location: Bronte to Port Credit =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: Chinook Hot Lure: Black & Orange Eagle Eye Trolling Speed: 1.5-3mph Boat Depth: >200' Lure Depth: 40' and under ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Tried Oakville (Bronte to Port Credit) for the first time this year. Had one early 20' down on a black and orange eagle eye. An hour later got a nice Chinook 40' down on the same lure. Then hit 2 on Ripplin Redfins (Black and Gold) on the surface out the back in quick succession. Lost one on the slider ~20' down before a long lull which was ended shortly before we left when we landing a decent Chinook 20' down on the same black and orange eagle eye. Gorgeous day on the water, a few fish made it all the more enjoyable.

Tried all depths from 60-310' with all hits occurring around 200±30 ft in depth. Once again nothing on riggers + spoons. All hits on Ripplin Redfin lures flat-lined out the back. Likely won't launch at Fifty Point on a weekend as the launch was a zoo to leave. Heading out again tomorrow, this time launching from Oakville Yacht Club. Will post results, have a good weekend.
  24. John, Thanks for the tip. I'm heading out now to meet my partner in crime there. The reason we've launched out of Fifty Point is to avoid as much of the QEW as possible. I'll relay this information and maybe we'll try Foran's tomorrow.
